About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Neighborhood gem
The Bistro at Muriel’s Jackson Square offers contemporary Creole cuisine with New Orleans classics like Seafood Gumbo, Turtle soup, Shrimp & Grits and Wood Grilled Pork Chop while the Courtyard Bar is the perfect place to drop by for drinks and appetizers. The Séance Lounge is the place for a relaxed, comfortable meeting before or after dining. Comprised of two areas, The Outer Seance and The Inner Séance, the Séance also tells the story of a mystic checkered past. The Outer Séance addresses the New Orleans era of Storyville when Muriel's Jackson Square was one of the French Quarter's top bordellos! The Inner Séance is the preferred domain of the resident ghost, Pierre Antoine Lepardi Jourdan; it's the perfect spot for an intimate conversation or a drink among its plush surroundings. The 170 foot wrap-around balcony is a splendid spot for enjoying our specialty cocktails or our extensive wine list featuring over 300 selections from around the world.

Too loud to chat at my table, but the food was good and they showed us the ghost’s table afterward

Wonderful staff - extremely friendly! Great food. Love the tables by the windows that have the privacy screens. Able to see the mules pull the carriages out the window. Hostess, managers, and wait staff were exceptional!

Even though we arrived 10 minutes before our reservation time, we were seated right away. The service was excellent, from the two hostesses that greeted and sat us, to Maria and Anna who were friendly and efficient as they served us. My husband and I ordered different things from the Restaurant Week menu, and EVERYTHING was delicious. We had a great table next to a window, so people watching was also fun. I would happily return!

Food excellent Restaurant busy Seated at table 25 minutes after reservation time. Ok because good bar. Ordered 2 appetizer courses before entree and ordered bottle of wine specifically to be served before appetizers. Wine didn’t show until after second appetizer delivered while we were still eating first appetizer Check produced (I had not asked for it) when dessert served and server stayed at the table and looked over my shoulder as I ate dessert Overall food excellent Service poor as we were being rushed through the meal. No way to run a “fine dining experience “

Muriel's shrimp and grits is a New Orleans classic not to be missed. The generous portion features plump, perfectly cooked Gulf shrimp, their natural sweetness shining through. What truly elevates this dish, however, is the creamy, stone-ground grits, infused with a rich, savory depth that hints at a well-made stock and perhaps a touch of smoky bacon. A scattering of verdant scallions adds a welcome freshness and subtle bite, cutting through the richness beautifully. Each spoonful is a harmonious blend of textures and flavors – a comforting and deeply satisfying experience that embodies the soulful essence of Louisiana cuisine. It’s a testament to simple ingredients executed with expert precision.

We went to Muriel’s for restaurant week and were pleasantly surprised to see they had a pre-fixe crab and creole tomato menu as well. My wife had the seafood gumbo and pork chop, saying it was definitely the best she’s had in the city, with pain perdu bread pudding for dessert. I had the tomato bisque with crawfish bread, crab and tomato salad and darkened salmon, with a surprisingly delightful green tomato with cinnamon and hazelnut alongside bread crumbles and vanilla ice cream. All dishes were delicious, and service from Bryan and Meril was great with the right balance of checking in and leaving us to enjoy our meal.
