    So we have been going to Mastro’s for years to celebrate special occasions and last night’s occasion happen to be for three friend’s birthdays. We were all excited to go, and it started off OK. The appetizers were delightful,and the waiter was cordial and polite, and tried his best to help us order the main courses. Although he struggled through offering options for the tuna to be prepped differently by the chef. As the night went on, and we received the tuna dinner, we realized he was really unsure in how to suggest a proper way to not have the tuna served as an non- Asian style dinner and maybe they may not have been another alternative but he didn’t say that clearly. The tuna was delivered as sushi style on slaw with dry seasoning that WAS asian seasoning. So,based on how the tuna was served, we really think the food is being pre-prepped and not cooked to order. This wasn’t what I have always thought of Mastro’s as - a franchise style restaurant and doesn’t have a way for a chef to manipulate the raw ingredients and be able to creatively solve a customer’s concern with wanting a particular protein served without spices they don’t like. This really made us wonder if the cream spinach is pre-prepped in bags, the max and cheese is portioned to skillet size and the meats are frozen not aged. We received two raw filet mignon instead of being cooked medium. Additionally, the busboy pulled our plates three times while we were still eating bread, eating an appetizer, and finishing dinner. Literally one of my guess had her fork in her mouth and he pulled the plate. Lastly, not once did anyone come to clean the table like they used to do when they use the crumb remover to keep the tablecloth perfectly clean to the highest standards of a 5 star experience. It was disappointing to think Mastro‘s is just a franchise with poorly trainedits staff,and serving food that is prepped in advance like a wedding buffet level of food service.

    Our server was wonderful. But we were jammed into the room as if they added tables to accommodate the fact that they took too many reservations. My lobster was undercooked.. and of course, the food was extraordinarily over priced.

    A lot has changed since I was there last. Food options are less and now they make you pay for the bread basket and that's fine I guess but I had to wait a long time just for that. Service was ok nothing outstanding as before.

    Great service and food as always. Only only thing I can complain about is the $50 cork fee, seems a little excessive in my opinion! All the food was excellent like always, and the crème brûlée is to die for!!!!

    I was hoping for a quiet dinner. Noise level was too high that we barely had a conversation. It was an effort to talk to hear each other. Rhe Chilean sea bass was excellent as always. But the ribeye steak was terrible. It was too fatty. I had dinner here before and bread was complimentary. Now there’s a charge. This was my 3rd time here and not coming back.

    I had the 12 oz Filet. It was the most tender steak I’ve ever had. It was seasoned well. Brandon, the waiter was excellent.

    Ambience was a little too dark for me? I feel like when you can't see the menu that it's too dark. I get that dark rooms make it seem more intimate but not everyone is there for romance. Lighten up a little more. The same level of light you have in the bar area would go a long way in the other areas. Food was just okay. What was the HIT of the night was the melt in your mouth bone marrows. We had Leo for our server and he was great! He took time to converse with us. I do want to thank the hostesses for seating us right away and also for kindly granting our wish to move to another table. Thank you ladies at the check-in desk for your friendly greetings. Thank you to all the wonderful valet workers for their warm greetings as well and being prompt to deliver our vehicles. Great evening spent at Mastro's!

    As always, everything and all the staff were amazing. We had VJ (sorry if I got the initial wrong) as a server. He was warm, welcoming, professional and more importantly attentive. Our dining experience was exceptional and the food was flavorful. I tried the Big Eye Tuna for the 1st time and it was seasoned to perfection. We also had lobster mac and sauteed spinach, and butter cake but these are staples so you can't wrong. Overall 5/5

    The food has and remains fantastic. It's always been expensive, but you will not leave hungry and all of their steaks can be shared. Unfortunately, the service is either excellent or sub-par, and this time it was average. The waitress refused to smile, looked like she would rather be anywhere but at work, and never introduced herself. They now charge $50 to remove the cork from you wine, which is the most expensive of any restaurant you will find! On top of charging to park your car, they now charge for the bread basket. Just not the restaurant it use to be.

    I go to high end steak houses all over the country for business meetings and other events. But Mastros in Costa Mesa is a cut above. Manager Geoff Sanders runs an impeccable operation. Food is great at all the Mastros venues, and this one is no exception, but service and ambiance in Costa Mesa is truly exceptional. Lively tasteful environment in the bar, quiet spots in the dining rooms, great private dining. Everything you would want in a high end steak house. Cannot recommend this place more highly.

    My family of 5 chose Mastro’s to celebrate my son’s visit from Japan. We have not seen him for 6 years, and since his craving was for steaks, Mastro’s was the place to go. The food is consistently memorable. I’ve brought others who have never tried the restaurant, and you can hear them ooooh and mmmmm We ordered the 33oz chefs cut which we shared + Chilean Sea Bass which was a stellar choice, calamari was perfectly cooked, but would choose to have aioli on the side next time. For the sides we had the tasty white cheddar mac n cheese, creamed spinach, and mushrooms. Son had an Old Fashioned, another had a Hef, and i had the Markham Merlot. Food was excellent, as usual. Service-wise, meh. Will say no more. PS Butter cake towers above Other butter cakes from other places.

    The sides have reduced in size and quality of ingredients. Bread is now a fee and less of it (hardly enough for 2 people). Although the steak and Chilean WSB was on point. Will come back, but will be making new decisions.

    It was New Year’s Eve so it was busy but that shouldn’t be an excuse. Server was good and tried to make things better. Issues were number one: my son and I ordered the dry aged bone in ribeye and it had no flavor. One of my favorite things about Mastros is the seasoning on the steaks and these had none. They were also overcooked and a little tough. For $85 each they should be perfect. Had a tough time getting bread and butter to the table and creamed spinach was cold. Mastros is my favorite restaurant and it always delivers but tonight was off. Waiter did the best he could.

    We were there for New Years Eve dinner. Our server was angry from the beginning of our seated reservation which made our experience unpleasant. It was unfortunate since we were looking forward to celebrating. This is not an inexpensive restaurant which makes that much more upsetting. We ordered a seafood tower for 4 guests and it came among other things with 3 crab legs. I got her attention to tell her that we were missing one and she rudely explained that it was half a pound. I kept telling her that we didn’t care, we just wanted each one of us to have their own crab leg. She kept arguing that she told us it was half a pound from the beginning. Super rude.

    The price of Mastros, Ruth Chris and Morton’s have gotten out of hand. Almost $300 dollars for 2 people. One drink each, one salad and one side. We like to dine out but we will dine else in the future. Paying for bread is a new one to me. We are from San Francisco and love sourdough bread at the Wharf, we do not have to pay for the bread. Maestro’s in Palm Springs had a better atmosphere.

    The noise level was high. The food was good but, not remarkable, and very overpriced for such a simple menu. The dining area was very dark. I saw many patrons using the flashlight on their phone and us included.
