Permanently Closed - Pistola is the next evolution of classic Italian restaurant- an interpretation of the best of Italian culture, as it is most satisfyingly experienced: at the dinner table with good friends and family. Pistola’s philosophy is straight forward: use phenomenal ingredients, combine true Italian tradition with modern flair and serve with flourish and joy in a spectacular setting. The food at Pistola remembers its roots but takes its culinary cues from the great techniques of the present and into the innovations of the future. Familiar dishes like Shrimp Scampi, Linguine Vongole, Lobster Fra Diavolo, Dover Sole Francese and Veal Parmigiana are elevated to new levels. We use only the best imported flour, balsamic vinegar and Prosciutto San Daniele and our cheeses come from all over Italy. Combining these indispensable items with local, predominantly organic products results in outstanding meals. We love where we live and live to celebrate our location and our cuisine.

A celebratory meal brought to another level with the aid of superb service! Loved the food--the steaks were as advertised--the desserts left a little to be desired, but by then we had almost no room anyway! We'll definitely be back.

matt was the best server in the whole wide world. all his suggestions were delicious. he recommended a wine that was one of the summery italian whites that i have ever sipped. it tasted like a new zealand sauvignon blanc. notes of grapefruit, ripe nectarine and cement. pistola is my secret place to go for beautiful oysters. yes, oysters! that night, the tenderloin was a home run. the brussel sprouts jeweled with finely cubed pancetta... it was the bomb. definitely, definitely returning to pistola.

Absolutely love Pistola. So great in every regard, from the management/staff to the food to the ambience to the cocktails to the wonderful energy of this spot as soon as you walk in the door... this is at the top of my list always! Well done, Pistola.

Maybe it was an off night, but everything from the pre-dinner cocktail through to desert was lacking execution. The whole experience felt like I was sitting in a restaurant that caters to tourists or people that have never been to a good restaurant. A bit disappointing, since I've always enjoyed dining at Gusto.

I ordered my salmon med well...it came rare so I sent it back and it came back medium rare. The waiter took it off the bill but that was not the point...what doesn't the chef get!! I am the customer and I wanted it med well..the chef doesn't chose how I want my fish prepared! The last time I was there they tried to sit me upstairs on their very boring sparse patio. I politely said I didn't make a reservation to sit up there which I know they use as an overflow. The host was not very polite about the situation. Needless to say after a few more words he decided it would be best to apologize and find me a table in the dining room but it put a real damper on the experience and evening. It is amazing how a couple of employees can ruin the reputation and experience of a nice restaurant. if I were the owner I would not be happy...if this is happening to me I am sure it is happening with others as well.

Great service and nice ambience. The food was really delicious. There were 5 of us and all had different entres and were all very happy with everything. Knowledgeable and helpful waitress - suggested a great wine. Nice crowd, but a little loud and conversation a bit difficult, but loved the place.

My wife, adult daughter and I had a very pleasant dinner at Pistola on Wednesday. We had cocktails (great Moscow Mule made with fresh ginger), raw oysters, delicious carbonara and spicy red sauce pastas, and a shared Delmonico steak. Only negative is the almost all Italian and limited wine list or $30 corkage. We will return for their steak tartare and Chicken Scarpariello.

As an east coaster, this is a legitimate New York style Italian steak house. We felt everything was cooked perfectly. Service was lovely, yet down to earth. No pretension, just real food done well. A bit loud - my New England parents wouldn't appreciate that part - but the linens and service they would agree are on point. The best I can say, is that my entire party agreed we would come again!

We brought a nice bottle of wine and server offered to " let it breathe" but he just meant open it. He didn't have a decanter, which was a bit odd. Service was pretty all over the place. Different people and not very polished at all. Cool vibe but VERY VERY loud. Acoustics are not meant for conversation. Maybe a better neighborhood bar spot but not great for dining.

It was our first time here. A little hard to see it as you're pulling up - it's the old AOC I believe. Great huge bar, old-school vibe, understated and cool. They offer a sidecar so they had me at hello! The rigatoni bolognese was recommended to me by a friend so we started with that as our appetizer (we were told their pasta portions were not large) and it was as good as promised. We had the salmon and branzino as our entrees. Both were delicious. For dessert we had the panecotta of coconut and basil with blood orange sorbet - absolutely fantastic - great flavors. We cannot wait to return!

This review comes after my third time dining at Pistola. The first, a multiple couple date night. The second, my 21st birthday dinner. The third, a double date night. The food has always been incredible. Perfectly cooked pasta choices, mouth-watering appetizers and sides, incredible (!!!!) steak, great ambiance, and wonderful suggestions and guidance from the employees. This was my first time dining upstairs rather than in the main dining room and I think that is my only complaint. The indoor/outdoor patio is quaint and romantic, but I like going to a restaurant and experiencing the actual restaurant. The patio felt very secluded and less vibrant than the dining room/bar hybrid below. Other than that, I recommend Pistola to be anyone's next date night venue or special occasion destination.

Our first time at Pistola was terrific. We sat on the upstairs patio which is an inside/outside space. It was a cold night but it was pleasant there. Gem lettuce salad was light and delicious. The tagliatelle was tasty and cooked perfectly. My veal was great and my wife's salmond was cooked to perfection. Service was pleasant and attentive. Highly recommended.

Steaks were good, but not worth the price. The food was unmemorable. We didn't have one dish that stopped us in our tracks. Cocktails were unfortunate. Worst crime if all: they added soda to my old fashioned. Don't feel a need to go back. With all the great restaurants in LA, they'll have to do better.

The food was good, the service was really bad. It took about fifteen minutes to get our drinks. When we were finished with our food, we ordered two desserts and two cappuccinos. We waited for twenty minutes to get our two coffees and one dessert, the cannollis never made it and we just told them to cancel it.

The service was terrible. 40 min before they even took our order. Our waitress was absent most of the time & only brought us a couple menus for a party of 6. Its overpriced everyone at that table was disappointed with the service. It was a birthday celebration & was pretty much a total bummer. Although the food apps were all good and most of the main dishes weren't bad at all, the cost was generally too much for the quality. The food and ambience were what yielded a 3 star review. Wouldn't spend my money here again. If you are going to be as expensive that's fine, but your customer service better be on point which is absolutely was not.

The food and the wait staff were outstanding. I would highly recommend saving room for dessert, as the Banana Cream Gelato Pie is worth it. The steaks are wonderful, but if you want something more traditional, the Veal Chop Parm is the choice to make. We have gone for our anniversary and for a dinner with family. Both were great experiences.
