We had heard that Watts Grocery had closed but went to their web site and were able to make reservations. We should have clued in as to how easy it was to find a table on a Friday evening. The restaurant is closed. It would be good for the closure even if temporary to be noted on their web page.

This was the perfect place for a Sunday brunch. We met at 1130am, and certainly beat the usual crowd. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. Great choices on the menu, and everyone in our party of 8 was happy with his or her choice. Loved the cheesy grits that came with the Watts Breakfast! There was a relaxed ambience and we did not feel rushed at all. In fact, after we finished our brunch, we stayed for another 20 minutes talking before we left for an event at Duke. No one bothered us or asked us to move along. I would definitely go here anytime for a good meal and a pleasant experience.

I was disappointed there were no salads on the dinner menu except for fried okra. Also, the menu seems to be stuck in time. At 8:15 on Friday, there were two tables occupied when we left.

Went with friends for Saturday brunch. The food is good, service is outstanding. All in all, very enjoyable as it always seems to be. And it's really nice to be able to have conversation at a regular voice level without having to shout over ambient noise!

Went for Sunday brunch, the restaurant was understaffed and everyone we interacted with seemed frazzled and in a rush. Asked multiple times for unsweet tea and got sweet every time. The host would not make eye contact and it took forever to be seated, although we had a reservation. The food saved the day—the shrimp Cobb salad was delicious. I would try again at a less busy time.

It was a tough day since it was Fathers Day so we expected lots of people, noise, etc. We had a reservation which I confirmed when I walked in but we ended up waiting 30+ minutes to be seated because the host tried to seat us at a table for 5 (after waiting 15min) when we were a party of 6. I confirmed 6 when I first came in as well as showed him my confirmation text to which he responded "well I don't know where that came from." I really like Watts and ultimately they got us seated and gave us a little treat since we had small children with us. I just wished that the customer service would have been more proactive and less confrontational about something that was out of our control as well. The food was great, drinks were great. Service was fine although our waiter was clearly overwhelmed. I have had many positive experiences here so we will most likely return. If I can give any feedback its to over-staff a bit for events where you know you will be busy. The host was clearing and setting tables, running drinks, etc.

I had gotten a recommendation for this place a while ago, but our experience was underwhelming. It was overpriced for unimpressive food. The best thing I ordered was wine, which stained my face blue. We left feeling like we should have gone to a less expensive, casual place for our 10 yr anniversary.

I have always enjoyed Watts Grocery in the past. This is the first time I have been there in more than a year and also my first time to go for brunch instead of dinner. I can only say the experience was dramatically less favorable than anything I have ever experienced there before. My food was cold, my server seemed as though possibly he had a hangover or just hated his job, I asked to remove the ham from something and substitute avocado and, for doing so, they charged me $4.00, the food I received was bland and flavorless (and also cold). The list goes on, but the worst thing was that I was there taking my daughter to brunch to celebrate her 24th birthday. I had put it into the remarks when I made my OpenTable reservation and I also told the server about it at our table. They did absolutely nothing for her, other than the waiter saying “Oh, happy birthday.” I have historically considered Watts Grocery an excellent special occasion restaurant, but can assure you I will never go back. There are too many other extremely fine options in Durham to settle for mediocrity.

The food and service were great. Unfortunately, the pacing of the food wasn't. They brought out my dessert while my husband was still eating his dinner. Then, after he was done, we had to sit for awhile before his dessert came out. Since it was ice cream, I couldn't hold off eating my dessert so I could wait for him. Overall, it was a favorable experience, and we plan to return.

I wanted to like this more. The decor was inviting altho we chose to sit outside. Our server was friendly and pleasant but the only one working so she had a difficult time serving everyone quickly. The cucumber soup was delicious as were the friend onion appetizers. We were less happy with our main choices. The tuna BLT was cold, toast very hard, 2 slices of “see-thru”tomatoes and bland tuna. The pork tacos were average at best and somewhat soggy. The dessert, chocolate cupcakes (because their ice cream sandwiches were gone) were amazing. Take away: go for drinks, appetizers and dessert.

When we arrived at 6:30pm, many of the menu items were not available. The bar options were also depleted. The menu is already small so that was disappointing. Haven’t been to Watts in some time and I was frustrated to go back and find how it’s gone downhill in service and food options. Our waiter actually took everyone’s order for dessert and skipped me. Very weird.

We dined on a special day (Mother's day) for the fixed price of $55 per plate and credit card provided in advance AND 20% included. However I would say the value was very poor. Restaurant "run out" of a popular drink which did not set a good tone for the dinner. Main dishes covered food choices but dishes were very simple and I would call very basic without any fuss. Those dinners are made in one's kitchen by a good cook I would say for a mid week meal. Meat cut in my steak was not very high quality. When we got to desert they run out of my choice again! such a disappointment. I will not be celebrating anything in that restaurant ever again.

We made the mistake of dining when there was a limited menu. The lighting of the room we ate in made it difficult to see as well. Despite that, I feel our experience would have been better if we got to experience the full menu, so can't really comment with a full review.

Mother’s Day brunch was disappointing. Soft shell crab sandwich and quiche were just okay, but felt like a rip off for the price (~$15 per meal). We had similar complaints about the meals: over salted, otherwise pretty bland. We have loved Watt’s in the past for dinner, but wouldn’t go again for brunch.

We've eaten at Watts Grocery since it opened, and they have maintained their excellent cuisine and service impeccably. This weekend's meal was no exception. Both of us had the ribeye which was generous and delicious, as were the sides of fries and creamed greens. I ordered the sweet potato gratin just to see what it'd be like, and it was also fantastic.

Couple of weird things - Harry Potter was playing at the bar with subtitles and the bartender was at the edge of the bar watching it. Food took over an hour so we filled up on bread and apps. They ran out of so many dishes even though we were there around 6:30pm and it wasn’t busy. Hush puppies couldn’t be served because chef said they weren’t good. Duck entree was meh.
