Join us on May 31st at 6pm or 8:30pm for "AfroBAD” Afro-Inspired Brunch After Dark - A collaborative multi-course dining event, hosted by our James Beard Nominated Blọk Captain, Ope Amosu, at ChòpnBlọk, featuring Michelin-renowned chef Mawa McQueen and Bravo Top Chef alum Michelle Wallace, showcasing their entertaining cultural approach to brunch classics.🌍🥞🎶🥂 About Chef Mawa McQueen: Born and raised in Ivory Coast, Chef Mawa McQueen is the founder of several Aspen-area culinary destinations, including Mawa’s Kitchen, The Crepe Shack, and Mawita. Her cooking draws from Afro-Middle Eastern traditions with French-American influences, shaped by her journey from West Africa to Paris, London, and ultimately the U.S. In 2023, Mawa’s Kitchen was named a MICHELIN Guide–recommended restaurant, following her recognition as a James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef: West. She is also the proprietor of Aspen’s only Black-owned restaurant, an alum of the James Beard Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Program, and the author of Mawa’s Way, a cookbook celebrating her food and story. About Chef Michelle Wallace: Born in St. Louis, Chef Michelle Wallace is a Houston-based pitmaster and the founder of B’tween Sandwich Co., a pop-up concept celebrated for its inventive takes on smoked meats and sandwiches. After graduating from the Art Institute of Houston, she trained in the fine-dining kitchen of Pêche, then moved into high-end catering—a path that ultimately led her to work under James Beard-nominated pitmaster Greg Gatlin. She spent six years at Gatlin’s BBQ, where she instantly fell in with the sizzle and smoke. Michelle has showcased her culinary talents on national platforms, including Food Network’s BBQ Brawl, Netflix’s High on the Hog, and Bravo’s Top Chef Season 21, where she earned the title of Fan Favorite. About Friends of the Blok: Friends of the Blok is a recurring dining series at ChopnBlok’s new Montrose flagship, spotlighting hospitality innovators from across the African Diaspora who are shaping the future of food and drink. From chefs and restaurateurs to sommeliers and culinary creatives, the series fosters collaboration, storytelling, and cultural connection—all in alignment with ChopnBlok’s mission to make our culture more accessible and build community along the way.

Wonderful restaurant, great for lunch. We enjoyed the eclectic, culture rich decor including the artwork and furniture. The food came out hot, was fresh and flavorful. We tried the Beef patties, coconut fried chicken, Trad dish, and Golden dish. The staff and our waiters were very friendly and attentive. The appetizers could have a larger portion size so it can be shared by at least 4 people. Every dish would go nicely with a fruity, creamy, or savory sauce to take it to the next level.

Something different for sure not my first African restaurant but this one in particular was my least favorite the portion was HORRIBLE FOR MY BILL TO BE WHAT IT IS I was starving when I left Drinks !!!! They have a margaritas that was the spiciest marg on he planet it was absolutely horrible safe to say I didn’t enjoy my experience at all BUT MY SERVER WAS GREAT the place was beautiful side note THE STEAK WAS SOOOOOO GOOD BUT I only got three little pieces on a stick and my bill was horrible safe to say I will not go back portion control was insane for it to be 🤢

Unfortunately, we did have to wait for a table although we had a reservation. The place was really packed this night and the table aside us was extremely loud , conversation wasn’t as enjoyable. But the nonetheless, always a good spot for ambience and food !

The food was spicy but great. Our server was great and gave us a great table for our first time. Drinks were also good. We will definitely be back !

The food was absolutely amazing!! Even though the hostess at the front was absolutely dismissive and rude, our server was so kind and gave us wonderful recommendations. This was our first time visiting the brick and mortar restaurant, as we’d only been to their POST location.
