We've been to the original location and before today most recently St. Augustine location. The former sets the bar very high. Regardless, you will not be disappointed. Quintessential Florida. Especially if you're visiting the amazing Tampa Bay History Center.

Columbia Cafe is a “must eat” restaurant My wife and I ordered the crab stuffed croquette My wife had the flank steak with yellow rice and peas. I ordered the garlic and lemon marinated pulled pork with beans and rice. We then had the unbelievable white chocolate bread pudding The food is absolutely delicious and the staff are wonderful

We enjoyed our group dinner water view table. Enjoyed learning about the history of the Cuban restaurant. I had a very tasty tequila cocktail. Delicious fresh homemade bread and eggplant meal. Friday night had live music. A group of us from Seattle met at Columbia Restaurant in Tampa and enjoyed the fresh air outdoor seating.

We chose Columbia Cafe for our son’s graduation luncheon after Med School graduation. The service and attention was top notch. Our server was excellent, she took very good care of us. We have a very nice and relaxing lunch. She even brought a congratulations card w/ complementary flan desert to celebrate our graduate. Sangria, 1905 salad, empanadas, main entrees and everything we order was delicious. We chose upstairs with A/C, it was quite, well illuminated, big windows w/ nice views of Tampa Bay. This place it’s a GEM!!! Nice location too. Highly recommend.

Food was just okay. Sangria didn’t have much alcohol in it. The original Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City is much much better in terms of food and quality of drinks.
Columbia Cafe at the Tampa Bay History CenterResponded on May 5, 2025
Thank you, Tina. Appreciate your feedback. We use the same recipes for food and drinks, so not sure where we fell short.

Our male server was not great at all. There were 4 of us dressed nicely for an evening out. First, the server was plunking large water glasses on the table loudly and poured water fast while lightly splashing with an elbow in our faces doing so. Later, he had a large glass of coke in his hand and crossed his arm in front of one of us, who was eating with fork in hand at the time, to plunk it over near the other in our party. When he drew his arm back, the server caught the fork with food on it, bumped it out of the hand of our party, and onto the table. We said something to him and he called it “an accident”. Clearly, he should never serve tables.

Sat outside at Columbia Cafe, right on the Tampa Riverwalk and had a lovely dinner. We shared the 1905 Salad with shrimp 'Aljillo' and really enjoyed having it tossed tableside. Dinner was thinly sliced, nicely done steak with grilled onions and an absolutely fabulous Yellow Rice with grilled peas and peppers. Not always a rice girl, and this rice was delicious. Passed on dessert and opted for a round of margaritas. If you don't want to try the Sangria's or Mojito's, try one of these!

Great tips, Laura. Thanks for this comprehensive review. We know how you feel about the rice. We could eat Columbia's yellow rice forever!

Salad was only good part about this place. Horrible service. Food did not taste good especially for prices. Salad the famous one was only good food enjoyed here.
