Traditional meets modern in this new age Caribbean cuisine restaurant brought you by Chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph of E&R Hospitality Group.

Named after the Canje pheasant, national bird of Guyana, Canje pulls inspiration not just from mainland Guyana, but from Jamaica to Puerto Rico, and all the islands in between. Our menu explores the cooking techniques, ingredients, and many expressions of vibrant food across the region.

Tucked away on the east side of Austin, this lively environment brings a unique cocktail program boasting both spirit forward and fruit driven cocktails and a small selection of natural wines alongside our inventive food menu.

    Outstanding job Canje. Lovely to see a Tasmanian Rosé on the wine list. Really loved the new cream sauce with the plantain chips.

    Good ambiance, service. Beverage selection for cocktails could be broader. Best of the dishes we tasted were plantain chips, fish, roti and ceviche while rest (bun, fritters, jerk chicken) were average. Sweet plantain dish was something they had run out of which was disappointing.

    Food was Fabulous, innovative and surprising. Decor was great. Noise was way too high - we had to yell at each other.

    Our 2nd time at Canje in 2 years and our previously excellent experience was met with an even better one. Starting with the perfect Isla Brava cocktail, into the starters, and the truly exquisite pepper fish main, the flavors were unique, well-balanced, and exemplary. This is to say nothing of the desserts which continue to be phenomenal. Add to that a warm and attentive crew of servers and staff, and both experiences have been completely delightful and memorable. Definitely one of my favorites, if not my favorite, (fine) dining experience in Austin.

    Not sure if it was just our night but the Jerk Chicken was super super spicy! Don’t get it if you have low or even moderate spice tolerance! The tables next to me all basically had the dish returned. I for sure have high spice tolerance but man that was spicy

    We had June for the second time and he is consistent, friendly, and professional. The jerk chicken and roti are amazing per usual! We love this place.

    Always love Canje. Our favorite place in Austin to bring guests. Get the boar pepper pot, the patties x3, any whatever else strikes your fancy.
