Restaurant des Familles
The 15-mile drive from downtown New Orleans will take you through the Jean Lafitte National Park. You’ll arrive at Restaurant des Familles and park under moss-filled century-old oak trees. The restaurant’s Acadian-style architecture provides a glimpse of bayou life that once was.
Our menu features authentic representations of Cajun and Creole favorites such as Crawfish Etouffée, Seafood & Okra Gumbo, Seafood Platters and Turtle Soup. Our signature dish, Alligator Stuffed Mushrooms with Alligator Sauce Piquant, will tempt even the most timid diner.
We look forward to your visit.
New Orleans-style BBQ shrimp served with toasted french bread & jalapeo-cheddar grits
Food was excellent as always and service was superb. I have never had a bad experience here and this time I was truly impressed.
Great dinner while celebrating a special occasion.
We had a large group so there was a good assortment of foods. We started out with drinks. Their specialty drinks were not very tasty. The crabmeat au gratin was VERY good. That was the high light of the evening. Two of our group had the Redfish Marcel. That was a mistake. The fish didn't have a "fresh" fish taste. They left the blood line in it (according to one in the group) so it had a very fishy taste--not in a good way. In fact, both did not even eat it. The jambalya was good. Overall not a "bad" experience but not the hype that we were given.
Great birthday celebration. First time to eat here but will be back
Server and staff very attentive. Anticipated needs. Food was very good. Flavorful. Large portions as usual for Louisiana. Gumbo did include okra, but fairly subtle for those unfortunates who do not like okra. French fries were a little stale, but perhaps that's to their credit. They're not a fast food place.
We were seated immediately. The restaurant strictly adhered to social distancing rules. Staff was excellent and the food was wonderful. To top it all off it was an excellent value. It was my sisters birthday dinner and was perfect.
Make sure to make reservations. This place has it all - scenery, great food, ambiance, and service. We ordered several appetizers to begin with: crab meat remick, turtle soup, crab cakes, and crabmeat au gratin. Everything was soooo good! Our main courses were 2 orders of soft shell crabs and an order of bar-b-q shrimp. The soft shell crabs were such a nice size and there were 2 of them on each order. Absolutely delicious!! They came with salads and a side also. The bar-b-q shrimp was more like shrimp and grits, but it was delicious too. The prices were extremely reasonable for all of the good food that we received. We love this place.
Father’s Day supper. Always a very nice place to eat good food.
This is a very good restaurant. I have been 3 or 4 times now and I have never had a bad meal.
The menu is tempting on a lot of different levels and is diverse enough to satisfy most picky eaters. It is a seafood restaurant to be sure, but they also boast 2 steaks, a pork chop, boudin stuffed chicken, and baby back ribs. Of those I can only vouch for the Cajun Ribeye Steak which was flavored and cooked well. The Crabmeat Au Graten and the Redfish Marcel are great. One this most recent trip we had 4 adults and all raved about their meals.
Restaurant Des Familles is not an inexpensive restaurant but the prices are fair for the quality and the variety offered. The wine list is limited.
The dining room is open and has the potential to be noisy but I have never found it to be excessively so. The ambiance is very nice and with the large windows in the back there are no bad views. Looking out at the swamp is far more interesting than looking at a strange painting on the wall or the building next door that you might see in most other restaurants.
The staff is always friendly and unpretentious.
This restaurant NEVER fails to impress! We love the atmosphere, the staff, the service and most of all the FOOD and the owners, who pay attention to customers as if they are family! If you’ve never been, so yourself a favor and take some friends for a very special treat! You’ll keep going back - OFTEN!
The restaurant is beautiful. The food was amazing. The service was great. We went for brunch with unlimited champagne, and my glass was never empty. Will definitely return.
great night out with family. the food was delicious as always.
We love this restaurant! So glad they have reopened!!! We are long time patrons and always treat our out of town guests to dinner there and they all rave about the food and service and ambiance !
Food and service was very good. We had a great time. We’ll definitely go back.
Nice restaurant off the beaten path. We have dined here for many years and we never fail to enjoy it.
Was there for our anniversary around 20 years ago and decided to go back. Was not disappointed. Food was great
We had a very enjoyable and relaxing experience, and the food was delicious.
Good food in a cool swamp setting.
Had BBQ Shrimp which was great.
Redfish Marcel was great.
Give it a try.
Hidden restaurant with good Cajun food.
Have been eating there for years. It is hands down our favorite place to eat. It never disappoints.
Great Seafood, service & the views of wild alligators from our table was a wonderful treat! Only in Louisiana South!
The food was excellent. The service was friendly and superb. Can't wait to go back.
I booked this way in advance for my father’s 80th birthday. We had a party of 19 that was originally 10. We were accommodated with a short notice. But the service and food was ok. My Redfish with jambalaya was warm and not hot. We didn’t complain because we only had 1 server. I watched the expression of our server the entire time. She was frustrated but she did a great job! I made sure she was rewarded for her service. Other than that all of my family along with my dad enjoyed everything overall.
Excellent service and delicious food. We will be back.
I had very high expectations for this place. It definitely disappointed me and my family. We are locals, and I think this is steered more towards tourists, who don’t know what real cajun food tastes like. Maybe it was an off day? It’s possible, but me or my family will not be going back or recommending it to anyone. My food came out room temperature, and another’s shrimp didn’t seem to be cooked. My redfish was extremely fishy tasting. The atmosphere is absolutely gorgeous, I will give them that. Bummer
The ambiance was perfect for my Mother's birthday party. There is a nice view of the swamp and the food was absolutely amazing.
The food was delicious and the service was exceptional. The view to the Bayou was beautiful. Definitely recommend visiting this restaurant and I will definitely return!
Great food, great service. We will go back b
Loved it, great experience
This place was beautiful and the wait was not long! Customer service is amazing but I didn’t to much enjoy my meal, nither my bf
Overall, a great deal for your money...service, price, ambiance are on point. The Sunday brunch (same menu as the Valentine dinner) is nice...used to be great! Seem to be going through a slight shift in dessert quality and the food portions (smaller and not quite as tasty dessert, some appetizers are smaller, some foods seem to have been prepared a little to early...cold)
Our waitress was not very attentive and the food was not very hot.
Had reservations but arrived late and was still immediately seated. Our server was attentive though not overbearing. The food was great.
Love this place!
Service and food was amazing!!!
The food was great..! The service was remarkable, they were on it! Will be back!
I have been going to the restaurant for years. It has been a while since I came to the restaurant.
The prize was very high but having been very pleased I did not think anything of it.
When we got there, the waiters was very nice. She gave us the menu.
We used to be able to get the regular lunch menu but not anymore.
We got the brunch menu, I got the stuffed mushrooms ( one !!!), the ceaser salad, the turtle soup and the red fish.
There was very few dishes not fried. I cannot eat fry food. So I choosed the red fish which was very dry.
I took the turtle soup home that I have not eaten yet. It used to be very good. We will see.
We used to have a choice of desert but we were limited to 3 choices.
For $44 , I could do a lot better with a lot more choices at any restaurant.
I am sorry but I will not come back and will tell my friends not to bother.
However I will miss the old Restaurant des familles.
The only positif thing, we saw 2 alligators in the water. I still love the ambiance
Very good food, made a reservation for lunch prior to our swamp tour. Would recommend stopping in for lunch/dinner if your in the area.
The food and service were excellent. Our only complaint is that it is so noisy that it is difficult to have a conversation.
We went for Sunday brunch. The atmosphere was awesome, as well as the food. Try the Brunch menu. All items on the Brunch menu looked so good it was hard to choose. Great cajun and southern fare!
