République, located in mid-city, is owned by Chef Walter Manzke and Chef Margarita Manzke. Centered in the heart of Los Angeles, the classic building in which it resides was originally erected in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin, and later transformed into the iconic La Brea Bakery and Campanile Restaurant. République builds on this storied past, offering a gastronomic environment imbued with history and grandeur. The space features a casual bar and bistro in the front with a more formal dining area located in the rear, serving a French-inspired menu created daily by our Chefs.

I am a Dover Sole lover. Difficult to find in Los Angeles, and when found, not always cooked correctly. Republique is the first restaurant that I found the Dover Sole to be perfect!!! Also love the fact that is it priced on the menu - not listed as Market Price. Terrific food, however, a little noisy for us. But, this will not stop us from returning. Top marks for a perfect Dover Sole.

Better than expected. Seating is more intimate than pictures show. Upstairs was especially quiet on a weekday early dinner. There are long tables downstairs that could be noisy and crowded if it's a busy night. Food was
good but not the most spectacular I've had. Chocolate cake desert was outstanding. Duck good. Salomon better. Brussel sprouts very good. Servers were great. Friendly and helpful. Thanks Riley? I think that was her name?

Glass in one of my friends drink. Definitely not the experience you want for a birthday. Also the fact that they stuck us next to a hot oven. We didn’t even feel part of the restaurant. Employees were literally washing dishes next to us. The whole experience from booking the reservation to dining was just not what I’ve heard they are capable off. It sucks that the food was so good but everything else was terrible.

This restaurant is amazing. The quality in food and service is outstanding. If you are looking for an intimate setting this place would not be it. It is very easy to be seated next to another group or couple, but overall a great experience.

Food takes a long time to come out and is very pricey for the small portions. We waited over 40 minutes between our pasta and entree. Cost is closer to $100 per person if you want to be full. I do not recommend the salmon. It lacked flavor. The potato gnocchi and mushrooms that accompanied the salmon were amazing...its disappointing that the protein was lackluster and cold.

This is the third time I've gone to Republique; each time I've gone, I've gone for dinner. Everything I've ordered there, with the exception of the octopus salad, was delicious (the octopus salad wasn't *bad*; it was just not up to the standards of the rest of the dinner.

The standouts this visit were the following:
* Charcuterie--we got a small charcuterie plate for 6 people, and that was enough, but, because it was the best thing we got, I wished we had gotten the medium.
* Most of the cocktails--the celery was excellent, as was the gin and tonic, but the snap pea was only so-so. That said, we ordered off-menu and got a vodka gimlet, a margarita, and a martini. The gimlet was the best I've had; the margarita was top-notch; and the martini was comparable to that of Musso and Frank's in smoothness and crispness.
* The waiter--Alas, I don't recall his name, but the waiter was excellent; extremely knowledgeable and willing to give you his opinions about what is best, not to mention having a very good sense of how much food would be enough for the six of us.

Great for a drink and cheese plate. Very good service. Would not come back here for dinner. We were unimpressed with our meal. Did not stay for dessert. Left and went somewhere else.

The food was excellent! Everybody loved their meal! The reason I didn’t put the highest points for the food was my pasta was spicy but tasted so so good the aroma from my plate smelled like the ocean so so good. Problem with me I have Heart burn and could not take a chance with it occurring that night. I wanted to eat it so bad, my husband helped me out but we switching plates. His was the short rib and u didn’t need a knife to cut it, so tender. Don’t start me on the butter and baguette, my favorite dish by the way! Dessert was sublime! No one ordered dessert except me and I ended up with just a little because everybody wanted a taste. Anthony our server was thoughtful, very informative, and always there to explain, thank you Anthony. As we left the restaurant no less than 10 people told thank you for coming and have a great evening. Very very impressed and we will be back!

Delicious, highly recommend to foodies. We got a dozen beach plum oysters, I got the lobster pasta my bf got the rib and omg it was amazing. Everything was as expected and the presentation was cute. The meat was so tender and juicy and the lobster was to die for.

I love this restaurant but the pacing of the courses can be slow. I don't want to be rushed but I do think the food could come from the kitchen quicker.

The wine list and Sommeliers are world class

We had made our reservation quite a while ago. The knee it was my 61st birthday. They sat us near the bar which was the loudest restaurant we had ever been to. We then realized at the end of meal they had a dining room in the back and much quieter. The service was terrible. Our main course came after 25 minutes of waiting. I actually told them to cancel it and magically came out immediately. They did comp the main course. If I went back I’d demand the back room. We came in from SF so was disappointed it was not a romantic setting.

The cocktails were exquisitely crafted, we had The Hotel Nacional, with rum and pineapple. The duck mousse eclers were divine as the octopus salad, trust me, no regrets.

This is a high energy place that serves a wide selection of exceptional food. A must share starter is the Potato and Leek Beignets. They also know what they are doing with the Prime Dry-Aged Ribeye, all four sauces are great but the steak is outstanding on its own. The wine list is encyclopedic and is sure to excite any Francophile. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and is what makes this place extraordinary.

The program and team at Republique only continue to tighten the more I visit. Extremely professional, yet warm. Michelin quality, but without the hype. Simple. Earthy. Home. It’s everything I want in a meal.

I don't know why Republique did not receive a star. The food is outstanding and unique and the service professional without being over-bearing. Our server ensured that our meal did not contain items I am allergic to. The croute for dessert was a spectacular presentation....much more fun than having it set on the table as it used to be. The cheeses were served perfectly, and the salmon was prepared beautifully. The ability to have half glasses of wine, enables pairing without drinking too much.

Food - OUSTANDING!!!
Service - OUSTANDING!!!
It was a bit noisy but we had a quieter private table in the front so I will resquest private tables in the future. It was also a bit chilly inside so I’ll keep that in mind for the future too but overall it was great and we’re looking forward to going again soon! The spinach pasta with mushrooms was delicious and so unique I’ll definately get it again. The salmon and roast chicken was so tender. I can’t wait to try the lamb next time it looked great. Our servers were so helpful with recommendations and explanations that we probably ordered more than we normally would have, but it was so good we didn’t regret a thing.

We live every aspect, Katy talked to me on the phone beforr and answered all my questions and made sure to wait on us and made our celebration night perfect. She even made note of our special needs for the evening. I was excited to go for the first time but happy that it all cane together as well as it did.
I'm still dreaming about the bbq ribs.
