République, located in mid-city, is owned by Chef Walter Manzke and Chef Margarita Manzke. Centered in the heart of Los Angeles, the classic building in which it resides was originally erected in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin, and later transformed into the iconic La Brea Bakery and Campanile Restaurant. République builds on this storied past, offering a gastronomic environment imbued with history and grandeur. The space features a casual bar and bistro in the front with a more formal dining area located in the rear, serving a French-inspired menu created daily by our Chefs.

Had high expectations since Republique was highly rated. But found the food to be only “almost there”. Had the tuna tartare, short ribs, bread + butter and duck. Also tried the strawberry tiramisu at the end… it was more like a strawberry mousse and sorbet.. (it was quite refreshing but had a different expectation given the name). Would give the food a 7/10.

Went to Republique for a dinner with some friends from out of town. First off there was a line at the valet at 5:30pm. You can also do street parking but that was cumbersome. We were seated in the outside patio which was good since it was outdoor yet heated.

I was looking forward to the food but was disappointed for most of it. I loved the KANPACHI CRUDO which was made of fuyu persimmons, pineapple, coconut, roasted peanuts, green thai curry. Also liked the brussel sprout carbonara. The the rest were underwhelming dishes. we had the duck the short ribs for mains and 1 pasta which was disappointing that I even forgot the name. Our bill was $500 for 4 people with cocktails which I think was pricy for the taste of the food I had.

will I go again? I don’t think so, unless someone else invites me and I have to. But will not make added effort.

Food was very bad. Everything we ordered from the menu which the waitress recommended was bad. The kampachi tasted frozen, the chicken was raw and when we told the waitress she did not do anything about it. Service was really slow. So expensive and not worth it. Never coming back!

Our short rib was undercooked and the steak was cold/tough. Service wasn’t great considering we didn’t see our waiter for the hour between placing our order and our food coming. Also not a huge fan of recent changes to the menu. The little gems salad and carbonara were mainstays that need to be brought back. Won’t be back for dinner, but this place will remain in the brunch rotation.

As always the food is great here. But I made a reservation for a special occasion this time, and this is a special occasion restaurant. I was told that I booked an outdoor seat so we sat in the tent outside in the parking lot, by the kitchen.

I don't generally write reviews at all, and am not one to complain, but I do feel like this indifference to service - particularly with the hosts - is a problem at Republique. I always feel less than when I go here - until I get to the table at least. I actually found myself dreading the check-in process on our way to the restaurant last night, and they delivered on the snobbery and disdain. I will say they do it in the most lovely way, but I always feel like trash when I go here, and I might not anymore.

This is my daughter's favorite restaurant because it feels fancy to her, and for her 12th birthday we got to sit in the parking lot on wobbly chairs. Not the most satisfying experience for $600.

This is the best Thursday night prix fixe menu I’ve had at République.
Every dish was well conceived and prepared. Excellent flavors.
Only complaint was the extremely high corkage at $75! The highest I have ever come across.

Hadn't been there for a while. We went for the Thursday tasting menu.
While almost every dish was just 5 stars, there were some issues that made the evening less than perfect.
They changed the first course on the menu from crab to eel, not one of my favorites.
I think if you're going to substitute something on a prix menu there could be other options?
I also was disappointed with the last course. I'm a huge fan of Liberty Farms duck and this was basically what made me make the reservation for our friends. The portion looked barely an ounce, was a bit chewy, and was so small it was basically drowning in it's sauce... ( the sauce was delicious by the way)
Every other course was superb. The scallops, sunchoke soup, pasta and especially the wonderful Dover sole with the champagne sauce were amazing.
Even the wine pairings were totally spot on, though it would have been nice to get at least tasting topped off since the $95 2 oz pours seemed a bit steep.
Overall, a pretty good meal but the last duck entree, in our minds, really brought the meal down. When you are spending $250 a person, another ounce or two of duck would have been a nice option.

Republique will always be our favorite spot for any occasion, never disappoints.
We go there for breakfast, brunch and dinner and time after time we just love it more.
With every bite you could taste that there is a team of professional chefs behind that counter, I wish we live closer.

A different experience than most restaurants. Come to share 4 courses with your group. Lots of different dishes but just a small taste of each. Expertly prepared. Top level service. High prices. A great time if you’re ready.

We waited 30 min for our table even with a reservation. Other than that everything else was fine. The pate was leaner that we thought, the squash agnolotti, cod, and strawberry tiramisu were amazing as always.

French baguette, butter, pan drippings and earth crafted garden baby lettuces salad...DELICIOUS beginning. The house gin and tonic was crisp, refreshing and served in a large wine glass with a large single ice cube...lovely. Brussel sprouts (tender and flavorful), butternut squash agnolotti (perfect little "kick" of spice), Mary's Organic Chicken (generously portioned dish and delicious), Red Wine Braised Beef Short Rib (outstanding), strawberry tiramisu (as good as it sounds). Republique was a memorable dining experience with perfect food, service, and ambience. Exceeded all my expectations!

The food was excellent. Couldn't stop eating the "Pan Drippings" lol. The service was great and very attentive. "Alex" at the valet was extremely helpful in handling an extenuating situation I had with parking my car. I really appreciated his help with this. We went to celebrate a birthday and it was a perfect night.

The Thursday Chef's Tasting menu on 11/4 was rich and warming - fall on the tongue. It was also earthy. So should you splurge for the tasting menu? Yes. Should you add the wine pairing? Yes. Not only were the parings spot on but I love learning fun facts from the sommelier, like this winemaker looks like Bob Ross. Came here to celebrate by beloved's birthday and cannot wait to come back to see what the next tasting menu is like.

Had only been for lunch and pastry previously, so we decided to try dinner. It was so disappointing. Service was painfully slow - took close to 45 minutes for our first course to arrive - and the server didn't seem to notice. He also got a bit flustered describing the dishes. Never came to the table in during the long wait period, so we couldn't even ask what was taking so long (our reservation was at 7:45 - the first course didn't arrive until after 9). First course (cauliflower) was excellent. Butternut squash pasta was not great - filling was overly sweet and not well seasoned, and the "brown butter" sauce tasted more like a buerre blanc, with a heavy hand of black pepper that hit you on on the back end. Cod with gnocchi was a bit less disappointing, but also seemed to be lacking seasoning with the fish being barely warm and very soft - borderline undercooked.
