We had a great late lunch this afternoon. I had the fish tacos and my husband had the fried chicken sandwich-really good! Our server was friendly and helpful, and he came by to refill our ice teas frequently. The ambience is casual, bright and friendly. The food was very good, but what stood out was the impeccable service- friendly, attentive and on-point. Recommend!
Fantastic, everything and the Butterscotch dessert, wow!
Always great service and great food!
Fantastic meal! Hats off to the kitchen!
Everything was great. Set us in a table that I had requested for decrease noise. Had plenty of room and service was fabulous. Gave it four stars on food related to one individual didn’t care for his main entre. He loved everything else.
Went out to dinner with some friends and it was almost a fantasic night. Through the first 2 courses service and food were perfect then it dipped a little bit. Our server robert did great but got busy it looked like and took 20 mins to get dessert orders after he dropped the menus. That was fine he got busy I get it. The thing that was bad though was that they turned the heaters on above myself ,who is sitting in booth, even though it was 80 degrees. Asked to turn them off but that didnt happen. Had to switch seats to other side of table with my friend because I was sweating under the heater. Food was really good though.
Great service, friendly staff, delicious food
Best restaurant in La Jolla.
Restaurant week for San Diego and Whisknladle had recently been recommended. Fantastic food, service and location. Jared was a terrific server and the entire staff demonstrated attention to detail and a commitment to great customer service.
Great food. Went for restaurant week.
Everyone's meals were tasty. Service was beyond exceptional. Whatever we wanted our server was more than happy to accommodate and bring to us. We were made to feel welcome and at home. What a nice experience.
Great service and great food! Delicious drinks. We left full and happy!
No more pastry case but still decent brunch. The hot chicken (not that hot) on a biscuit was better than the blueberry pancakes (had to request butter and syrup). The walnut bread should have been a bigger piece for $4 maybe. Service was good and no wait then it opened at 10. I think it was better when I last went six years ago haha
Menu is so small, and there was not anything my husband and I liked.
Wonderful fresh, inventive menu that actually changes to keep it interesting. Love this place!!!
So delicious! Enjoyed everything ordered and the strawberry shortcake was a great and tasty memory!
Gréât as usual. Love this place and recommend to all foodies or anyone looking for a fresh plate.
Absolutely perfect meal. Cannot say enough good things about the dinner we were served. Not to miss!
Lovely time! Wait staff was amazing!
Food was delicious, we ordered the hot chicken, which was fried chicken with biscuit and gravy in a spicy oil, and summer salad with shrimp. Both dishes were well executed. Service was sub par. It was a hot summer day, they don’t have AC and They wanted to seat the both of us in the sun even though there were other empty tables around and we made reservations. We requested to sit somewhere cooler and they obliged. Waitress was so unfriendly, did not smile or check on us at all and was curt. I hate to think we were treated that way because we’re Asians.
Try the bone marrow. It is very good. Sorry I had to go back to work or would have had the Whiskey Luge to accompany it!
We have been to this place over a dozen times, and literally everything we have eaten has been top notch. The best overall restaurant in San Diego, hands down.
Love the food! The drink list is great, and the staff is super knowledgeable and kind. We make sure to get a meal here each time we visit La Jolla
We come here all the time and the food and service are excellent!
Great service and outstanding food. Thank you for a great experience as always.
The food and location were spot on for La Jolla but the decor seems dated and oddly dark for a beach restaurant. The homemade biscuit is worth the trip alone and wonder why the kitchen does not make it the star of their menu. Why not eggs benedict with the biscuit instead of the english muffin? Why not the fried chicken sandwich on the biscuit instead of the brioche bun?
We always enjoy our Whisknladle experience. Bob is the greatest!
Had a great experience at Whisknladle.
We started are meal with the mussels. They came with hand cut fries. The mussels were cooked to perfection. Make sure to ask for bread to soak up all the juice the mussels are cooked in. We had the Summer salad & a cup of the Cream of Corn soup. Both were delicious. We each ordered an entree, Pork Bolognese, Seared Scallops and the local market fish, which was grouper. All the dishes were wonderful.
Of course we had to try the desserts. We ordered the Butterscotch Budino, Strawberry Shortcake and the chocolate torte. My favorite was the Butterscotch Budino. It just melted in my mouth. The other dessert were also a tasty treat.
The service was excellent! A definite restaurant to add to my favorites list.
One of my very favorite restaurants....always great food and service!!
On a low carb diet so had the burger on a lettuce leaf with side salad instead of fries. The cheeseburger was delicious BUT for 19.50 I would expect to get the egg and bacon on top as part of that price. Each of those added two dollars so a cheeseburger with bacon & an egg was $25. Yes, it's La Jolla, but really, $25 for a dressed up burger?? Many other good places charge $16-18 with the bacon and egg included. The side salad, lightly dressed was maybe 6 lettuce leaves--nothing else as an ingredient. Our server was terrific in accommodating our diet needs but really...$25 for a burger??
Food was delicious. Fried chicken was moist (at least the dark meat was), savory and flavorful. Would come back just for that! My husband enjoyed his halibut a lot and the flat bread was crisp and had a unique flavor. Server was friendly and attentive. Charming atmosphere and low-moderate noise level.
Loved everything about Whisknladle. The eclectic and airy space is comfortable and inviting. Reminds me of eating in a fisherman market. We ordered steamed mussels, squid ink pasta and halibut. The mussels are served with fries, but they don’t soak up the wonderful clam chowder like sauce. We asked for bread and cleaned every drop of it. Then came the homemade squid ink pasta. It was so light and delicate perfect with the clams sauce. Espresso and biscottis topped off our wonderful meal. Our sincere compliment to the chefs, staff and owners for your labor of love.
Since it’s such a hot spot we wish we could stay longer to enjoy the ambiance. We did enjoy the cool vibe and people watching. Well done!
Service is outstanding! Waiter recommended the Summer Salad, Tuna Crudo and mussels, all were delicious. We will come back
Happy time at a great place!
Before I begin, I have to say our waitperson was FANTASTIC. The perfect level of conversational and professional. We loved her. But the food was not great. I had the cockscomb pasta. What was that? The pasta was so chewy and tasteless and dark. Mixed then with dark eggplant. It did not taste fresh - almost heated up from a previous boil. I would discontinue that dish. My sister in law had the dungeness crab salad, and it looked like an appetizer. The portion was fair, but it was plated in a really blah way on top of the tomatoes. I tasted the crab and it also did not taste fresh - but rather mixed with mayonnaise and maybe out of the fridge from a couple days ago. Also was a little fishy. Crab has to be really fresh to be good. The guys liked their musssels, so that was a win. The drinks were great. So, would I recommend W&L anymore - not sure. It was a favorite for many years, but we were not wowed this time, especially with the fairly high price of everything.
We had a fabulous brunch on a pleasant Sunday. Service was attentive, food was delicious and the place has was rustic/linen/comfortable atmosphere :)
I have to say ... this was just exceptional - we attempted with two kids and wow were they accommodating... we only lasted 30 minutes but they were so kind and thoughtful and packed everything to go with no judgement... this is how you literally should be treated.. the food was incredible— will be going back ... without kids next Time
Quick service with a smile and great humor. The fried chicken and green bean/watermelon salad are some of the best things I’ve ever put in my mouth.
Always a great experience at this most wonderful restaurant. The food, the service and atmosphere is outstanding. Definitely one of my San Diego favorites!
