Westend Costa Mesa
We saw a mouse but the food was good that we ate before we saw it
Maybe is me, I expect more when I thought they serve Creole french food. The menu is relatively narrow and simple. The squid ink pasta taste very bland other than strong lemon to cover the prepack crab meat. The food is nothing like the pictures shown. It's a place for a quick bit for local neigbhorhood.
Always a good time with GREAT food at Westend. You can't go wrong with any of their menu items but the shrimp poboy is one of the best I've had in our out of Louisiana. Consistently good food with a great atmosphere!
Great service, great food, great drinks and great music.
My husband and I really enjoyed dining out here. The ambiance is very cool: great music, hip vibe, excellent service and most importantly—delicious food and cocktails. We will definitely be going back.
I got to spend a night out with my girlfriends here and I really digged the vibe of this place. It is located in the gentrified area of Costa Mesa so the location can be janky but what mattered to me here was the food, cocktails, and company (of course). Both ambiance and music were a bonus that transported me to New Orleans for the night. Yeah, baby!
Starting off with cocktails, their list is pretty impressive with my favorite being the New York Sour. It's a Boston Sour variation with red wine among the many ingredients as well as shaken egg white which I always love in my drink. The Rose Sour was also very delicious.
Appetizers you shouldn't miss are the Calamari and Brussels Sprouts. I can't emphasize enough how these are a must. Meanwhile, skip the Squid Ink Pasta w/ Crab - very mild squid flavor and all you can taste is lemon. I really enjoyed the Jambalaya as well as everyone else on the table. It was a more generous serving vs the other dishes so definitely a great value there. If in the mood for a panini, the Apple, Prosciutto, and Brie will sure to please. As for dessert, Beignets and the Fried Peanut Butter Sandwiches were what we devoured but if I have to pick one, I liked the texture of the latter better.
Westend is a perfect example of a hole-in-the-wall that you may easily miss while driving but I strongly suggest you don't.
Parking: street and plaza right across.
Really enjoyed this gem ! Great bar program and tender . Delicious creative food .
Awesome food and the libations are delicious! The ambiance was perfect for dining on a Sunday evening.
Made a reservation and they called me as I was on the way to the restaurant to tell me they had overbooked. And they would have a table for me in an hour and a half, right before closing.
Interesting setting. Record albums from the 50's and 60's line the walls had a quick snack. Shared a pull pork sandwich with sweet potato fries which we enjoyed
Awesome place, awesome food. Good ambiance and friendly staff.
Service was excellent! We loved the fish and chips dish the best! We also loved the beignets. Everything else was tasty, but not amazing. We ate on a Saturday around 5:30pm and when we ordered they had already run out of the pulled pork and shortly later we overheard they had run out of squid ink pasta - that was a litttle disappointing. We liked everything else though
Small dinning area. Be sure to get reservations before.
We booked very last minute but since it was a rainy day it wasn't very packed. The service was excellent, we've had a run of some uncomfortable experiences at restaurants at late, but Westend made everything about our dinner enjoyable. The prices are a bit steep, but the food is very good and there's a deep selection of wines for you to choose from. The ambiance is casual and very relaxed. It might be a small space but you never really feel cramped in there. Overall, I'd definitely come back here for future date nights. Thanks!
Best meal we've had in a while. Brussels sprouts, pozole, pulled pork... All delicious. Highly recommended!
Westend looked like a wonderful place to eat, but we had so many problems there. First and foremost, we ordered. My plate came, but my friend had to wait a half an hour for her pizza as her order was delivered to another table. I had long finished my meal by the time her order came! I decided to order dessert to accompany her while she ate. No beignets and no PB&J! It was a frustrating experience! I truly wanted to like the restaurant and provide my friend with a nice experience. Unfortunately, neither happened.
Great date night spot! New Orleans food
Have been to Westend several times and it never disappoints. We will continue to go there, food and service is great.
Sangria and squid ink pasta were delicious. Small place, but they were still able to accommodate our group of 8. Very relaxed atmosphere, so come here to sit and chat for a while; not a rush in/rush out kind of restaurant.
Service is slow... food is decent
This hole in the wall place was really a great choice. Finding it is a little tough as other reviews say but once you know what you are looking for it is not too bad. No parking so park across the street and cross over, no big deal. Food, ambience and amotsphere were amazing and i highly recommend to anyone that is intk great food, music and just an awesome small place that seems somewhat exclusive based on how tucked away it is. Highly recommend and will definitely be attending again.
We wanted to try this new restaurant as we are always looking for something new and creative in the neighborhood. It is in a part of town that is up and coming that we would like to encourage new restaurants to open in. It was authentic inside and the service was great. The staff was very friendly and attentive. There were quite a few people in there trying it out as well. The food was good, but not outstanding. I think the food needed a little something, more flavor and seasonings. The sauces were a little hot and very garlicky which dominated the flavor of the items being eaten. I think they should offer an optional sauce for those who can't take the hot stuff. I do think they are on the right track, just need to fine-tune some of the dishes, just as any restaurant does in the beginning.
Every time we eat here, we love the ambiance, atmosphere, the friendly staff and most importantly the food. Delicious and fresh!
