Attending show at Strazz
Our server, Justin, was excellent! Food was good. We had grouper, fish and chips, shepherds pie, scallops and veggie burger. No complaints from anyone. However, superb service is the reason to dine here!
The 5 stars says it all. Excellent in all areas. Can’t wait to return,
We have made WaterWorks or dinner spot before going to the theater. The food is really good for the price point but the service leaves us stumped every time. We’ve never been late to a show but we always feel as if we’ve seen a show (comedy) getting our dinner.
Food was good, but service was slow. It took over 30 minutes to get our drinks from the bar.
The dining room was not open because they didn't expect to be busy. Our server spent more time chatting with other employees then working. I had to ask for a glass of water 3 times. We spent a lot of time waiting for him. Food was okay but not good enough to go back.
Extremely disappointed! Unhappy with it all. Looked 100.% better online!!!
Dining room had not been swept beneath the tables or in the public spaces since the noon meal. Waiter was pleasant but not well trained. He took 15 minutes to deliver a bottle of wine and it was labeled a different grape and a blend, as opposed to the listed bottle we ordered. He did not know how to present or serve the wine. Appetizer “Triple” contained guacamole, a watery Pico de Gallo (missing the cilantro) and a warm jack cheese dip that was so cool it was separating. Experience had the service & feel of a bus station cafeteria.
Phillip is a treasure. A punny punny treasure. The food was good The speed at which it arrived was outstanding.
We've been to this restaurant several times. It never improves. The food isn't bad - once you get it. Service is VERY slow. Most of the entrees do not come with sides but sides are available at $5.95 each! The sides aren't anything special - fries, whipped potatoes, basic tossed salad, etc. Would it really cost them that much to give you a tossed salad with your meal? The location is across from The Straz Center, so it's very convenient for dining before going to the theater - which is, in my opinion, the ONLY reason to go there. This restaurant has so much potential - unfortunately, they need to get their act together.
Enjoyed the Cuban sandwich and my husband had a wonderful soup, a special of the day.
Near the theater and convenient to parking. We will go again.
My wife and I had dinner here before the Phantom next door at Straz Center. We made reservations ahead of time. Felt like we were kind of taking a chance due to all of the poor reviews that we had read previously online but decided to give it a try based on the location. We weren't disappointed! Very accommodating. Excellent service. Calamari was excellent. Fish and chips excellent. Key lime pie very good.
Perfect spot for dinner before going to the Straz. Our server was friendly and helpful. The food was good and we had plenty of time of enjoy our meal and then stroll along the river to the theater. We returned for a drink afterwards while we waited for traffic to thin out. Great evening.
Never again. Dining area is very plain and ugly. The wait staff is friendly and tries to be helpful. The appetizer was decent. However, we waited an hour for the entrée. Finally, rather than missing the show, we gave up and left hungry.
This is not high end dining and yet very pleasant and the food was quite good. There was more chicken and cheese than found in most restaurant quesadillas and the cod in the fish and chips was very good and fresh and nicely prepared. Not greasy. This was our first visit and we will definitely go back. The only negative was that they do not have a wine list and our server was poorly informed.
Service was pretty good for an obviously new server who really tried hard. The meal was quite unexceptional and the first glass of wine was sent back because it was so bad. It appears to be a new management group who is still getting organized. May be worth another try when they get their act together.
Wonderful location if you are attending Straz.
We ended up sitting at bar, which was a better move than a table given the number of times someone from a table came up to the bar asking where their drinks were. Two bartenders who would not make eye contact and moved slower than any I have ever seen. Food was average. Atmosphere was just not welcoming or comfortable. We left with headaches because there was a constant underlying thumping vibration. No idea where it was generating from but just added to a less than desirable visit
My friends and I were there pre show at The Straz. You couldn’t have found a better pick. Food was excellent, our waiter, Aaron was amazing and the Jazz music took it over the top. Would absolutely recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
We arrived , and after three staff at the front desk finished their conversation, we were seated. Our server must have been new, was very personable but slow and inattentive for the most part. Took our 2 glasses of wine 15 mins to arrive. We decided to split a dinner as our server suggested because it was a generous portion. We also decided to split the side Caesar. Took 20 more minutes to get our salad and even had to ask for it again, and then ask for extra plates to divide it ourselves. Our dinner arrived on a cutting board, one knife and no plates. Had to ask for plates and an extra knife. Yikes and this was an anniversary and Valentine dinner. I will say the best part of the restaurant was the salted caramel cheesecake for dessert.
Do not go here for breakfast!! I brought a group of 12 people in our mid 20’s and was horrified to enter a weird dark side room that looked like a bingo room for 85 year olds with black seat covers and a wooden dance floor. This is a crappy continental breakfast in a hotel that was completely empty except for a couple tables of elderly people. The room in the pictures is not the breakfast room!! It was advertised as a “post gasparilla recovery brunch with bottomless mimosas” and there were none. Open table should take this option off for breakfast immediately.
No Bloody Mary bar as advertised, no one was there to sit us. “Buffet” was a few items of food that looked like they had been sitting out for hours. We left very disappointing
We will be back fit dinner next time with our friends.
Food was average. Ok for price but after ordering we had to wait over 1 hour for our food to be brought to our table
great, fast service. Good food and drinks. Very close to Straz. Perfect for a before show dinner.
The convenience next to the Straz for a meal before a show can't be beat. The food was excellent. It is fairly traditional fare for a hotel restaurant/bar, but is well done. The staff is very friendly and our waiter had a terrific sense of humor. Their service I would not classify as slow but inconsistent. Going in I had read some of the negative reviews regarding service time and planned accordingly with my reservation to be well in advance of our show time. I am glad I did as the meal would have been "rushed" if I booked any less time. Two tables next to ours were both seated after us by at least 10 minutes but their orders came out before or practically at the same time as ours. It seems that the kitchen "pushes" orders out, lulls, and "pushes" again. If you were at my table service seemed a bit slow but if you were at one of the others, the service was very good. We look forward to going back again but will always plan for a bit more time needed just in case.
My expectations were a bit higher for the prime location of this restaurant. The food was only so so. The ambiance left a lot to be desired. This location has the potential to be a top notch restaurant but I feel like it missed the mark.
Food was good but the service was slow due to a lack of wait staff.
We made the mistake of waiting until the last minute to make reservations at Maestros for dinner before a show at the Straz Center and they were full. This was the only place in close walking distance. Most reviews were bad and they were right on. Very slow service and the food was awful. Two of us ordered the special pasta of the day which was shell pasta with chicken and veggies. It was a kids portion at best with a thick, tasteless ragu sauce, two pieces of chicken.
Went before performance @ Straz center. Not busy at time we were seated. Waiter tried hard to give good serve but the kitchen let him down.
My brother and his wife had the fish and chips which were tasty and hot. My wife had a chicken salad that was ok. My Cuban sandwich was warm outside but cold in the middle. A sorry attempt at making a $14.00 Cuban.
We waited almost 45 minutes to get our food.
Try somewhere else.
Good for a quick burger but it's like eating at a college hole in the wall.
My wife had the Brussel Sprout Hash and the Scallops. The Hash appetizer was the perfect size for a side dish. The fish on the Fish and Chips was excellent as well. The French Fries, not so much the the fish was good enough to make the dish good. Had the chips trio (queso, guacamole, and salsa) for an appetizer. Excellent as well. Saw some negative reviews but I’d ignore them!
Love this place. My husband and I love coming here for our weekly dates!
Food was good. Server (Christian) was excellent. But restaurant was under-staffed and kitchen slow. Meal time was 100 minutes for a single appetizer, hamburger, fish & chips and single dessert. Much too long. Undecided about returning.
Food was delicious. Service was very good. Full bar is a plus. Ambiance a bit lacking - we were seated in a large, dark room. Good location across the street from the STRAZ. Will visit again.
We were seeing a Broadway show next door and wanted to have a nice dinner close to it. The menu and pricing online was different than what we received. The space was not set up like a restaurant - just tables and chairs, very empty and uninviting. Nobody even waited on us for the first 15 min. I had to ask a server if we could order food/drinks.
Food was not bad, but over priced and defiantly won't be going back due to service and ambiance.
Location near Straz Theater excellent otherwise take a pass
Waited 10 minutes after being seated to be able to request water. Waitress fine but kitchen VERY slow. Allow at least an hour for your entree to arrive. Caeser salad was warm and wilted. But, right across street from Straz Center for Performing Arts.
This restaurant is right across the street from the Straz Center and one of very few restaurants in the area. The service was slow (too few waiters and big crowd showed up all at once) but the food was very good and we were able to park at the Barrymore Hotel instead of trying to find a space at the Straz Center parking. It worked out very well.
My husband and I walked out of the restaurant after being seated and not being waited on for over 10 min. Numerous people were complaining around us about various things. I will never go to this place again.
