Our dining experience at Waikiki Shokudo, which we hoped would be enjoyable, turned out to be quite frustrating. We had a reservation for 6:15 PM but ran a little late. I called ahead, and the staff was pleasant and accommodating, allowing us to push our reservation to 6:30 PM. Upon arrival, everything seemed promising; we were seated quickly, and the staff was friendly. We placed our orders around 6:40 PM, and the first portion of our meal arrived at 6:45 PM. Unfortunately, things quickly took a turn for the worse. With a party of five, we noticed that our meals were delivered almost exactly ten minutes apart, with my grandson receiving his meal last. After waiting for about ten minutes, we inquired about his food and received a hastily prepared, sloppy roll. While the quality of the food was decent, it was nothing remarkable. Throughout the evening, it was apparent that we were being treated differently compared to other tables. Diners who were seated well after us received their meals promptly. Despite our patience, we received no explanation for the delay, aside from a simple thank you for waiting. Additionally, my granddaughter received her meal with onions, despite specifying that she wanted no onions—an oversight that added to our dissatisfaction. It was disheartening to witness the disparity in service, as it was clear that we were being treated differently from the locals around us. Having been involved with family in the restaurant business for years, I believe that the true measure of a restaurant is how they treat all customers, not just their regulars. In conclusion, if you’re visiting Hawaii, I would recommend looking for a different sushi restaurant. Our experience at Waikiki Shokudo was overshadowed by frustration rather than enjoyment.

•ハワイなのに日本の料理が楽しめた。 •落ち着いた雰囲気で、各テーブルにあるスタンドで明るさの調整ができる。 •料理は少し味が濃いめだったが全体的に美味しかった。 •なかなかハワイには来られないが次回も来たいと思う。

The shashimi is very fresh, the sizzling platters are very good and the service was prompt and very friendly. We ate here twice in consecutive nights. I would recommend this restaurant highly. Avoid sitting in the back rooms where groups are seated and without carpeting, the noise is very loud. the sizzling platters are very good

This was by far the best meal we ate this trip. Jay was an excellent server and the black pepper rice with beef was delicious. The sushi rolls were also very tasty! And the Hi drinks were so refreshing. 10/10 would recommend!

Great place with great food. Quiet and small, feels more local and less commercialized, price is great as well as food quality. Service was friendly and they did a great job recommending dishes.

All the appetizers that we ordered were good & I was hopeful for the rest of dinner. This was my party’s first time at this location, so it took us a bit to decide on our entrees. However, it took an hour for me to get my steak after I ordered. My friend’s butabara was luke warm at best & when he got it back after they “fixed” it, it was still just as cold. The garlic pepper fried rice was also bland. The server mentioned taking the steak & butabara off the menu, but my husband noticed that we were still charged for the steak after paying. For how expensive this restaurant is, I expected the food to be better.

Shokudo was amazing. We tried a number of dishes and everything was delicious. We will definitely return. The sashimi and sushi were especially fresh and great.

The tuna roll was great! But everything else was so so. We tried the miso butterfish, chicken wings, sashimi peppers and eggplant, Small and can be loud depending on the other tables around you.
