I found Waikiki Shokudo to be an amazing restaurant at affordable prices. It took me some time to find it. The best I can describe is that it's located down the road from Victoria's Secret on the right. For my appetizers, or pupus, as they are call it in Hawaii, I had the Edamame and the Yukari fries. The fries were crispy and coated with a special seasoning that was delicious. No sauce was required. They were delicious on their own. Then I ordered the Ichibo steak, which was sliced in bite sized pieces and served with wasabi and salt. The steak was perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth! I've never tasted such perfection! I added a side order of wasabi to add to the steak as I'm a wasabi snob. To complete my meal, I ordered the house white wine, which was so fresh and a perfect complement to my meal. The Chardonnay was oakey and had hints of vanilla. It was also affordable at $10/glass, so I had two. This small restaurant is definitely worth it, if you're looking for some delicious Japanese food. The prices are great and service was impressive.

The food, service and ambiance was good. Just keep in mind that there’s only stairs to get up to the restaurant which wasn’t a problem for our party but it may be for the physically challenged. Overall the selection was great but I wish they had more of a sushi selection. The honey toast with ice cream is a must!

Our dining experience at Waikiki Shokudo, which we hoped would be enjoyable, turned out to be quite frustrating. We had a reservation for 6:15 PM but ran a little late. I called ahead, and the staff was pleasant and accommodating, allowing us to push our reservation to 6:30 PM. Upon arrival, everything seemed promising; we were seated quickly, and the staff was friendly. We placed our orders around 6:40 PM, and the first portion of our meal arrived at 6:45 PM. Unfortunately, things quickly took a turn for the worse. With a party of five, we noticed that our meals were delivered almost exactly ten minutes apart, with my grandson receiving his meal last. After waiting for about ten minutes, we inquired about his food and received a hastily prepared, sloppy roll. While the quality of the food was decent, it was nothing remarkable. Throughout the evening, it was apparent that we were being treated differently compared to other tables. Diners who were seated well after us received their meals promptly. Despite our patience, we received no explanation for the delay, aside from a simple thank you for waiting. Additionally, my granddaughter received her meal with onions, despite specifying that she wanted no onions—an oversight that added to our dissatisfaction. It was disheartening to witness the disparity in service, as it was clear that we were being treated differently from the locals around us. Having been involved with family in the restaurant business for years, I believe that the true measure of a restaurant is how they treat all customers, not just their regulars. In conclusion, if you’re visiting Hawaii, I would recommend looking for a different sushi restaurant. Our experience at Waikiki Shokudo was overshadowed by frustration rather than enjoyment.

The shashimi is very fresh, the sizzling platters are very good and the service was prompt and very friendly. We ate here twice in consecutive nights. I would recommend this restaurant highly. Avoid sitting in the back rooms where groups are seated and without carpeting, the noise is very loud. the sizzling platters are very good

This was by far the best meal we ate this trip. Jay was an excellent server and the black pepper rice with beef was delicious. The sushi rolls were also very tasty! And the Hi drinks were so refreshing. 10/10 would recommend!
