Vineyards Wine Bar & Bistro
Amazing food and great flights of wine! There are so many wines to choose from and everything was fantastic. We will be back next time we visit Ottawa.
The wine flying is a set of 3 different glasses with different tastes. For someone who like the sweet taste, I would recommend the German white wine, very nice! But each glass has a little bit wine inside, so totally the whole flying set is similar to a full glass of wine.
The cheese board has contains a crispy cheese topped with mango Chinese sausage, very delicious, and 2 types of salamis (3-5 slides for each), 2 pieces of pickles, few slides of hams and it cost $36. If you come on Monday, $20 Mussels all you can it.
The waitress was friendly, bar has classic ambiance. However, Jazz music is only performed on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday by single guitarist, not a band. The bar is quite small, there isn’t a place for a band to play a great jazz.
Great experience on this first time visit! Our reason for going was the live Jazz, which was great, but we were also very impressed with the food and service! We were seated immediately with our OpenTable reso and our server was welcoming and informative. The food we ordered was excellent. We also were very happy with the wine flights we ordered and had an additional litre of our favourite from the tasting! Would highly recommend this restaurant!!!
The experience was good but we had a rough start when we arrived at the restaurant. We were reserved a table that was close to the entrance door that is so tight and is not the most cozy area in this small place. Given the fact that we reserved a day ahead and when we asked for a better table, we were told that there were lots of ppl that reserved and it would be an hour of wait to get a better table. Seeing that we were not pleased by their choice of table and additional wait time, the guy at the bar offered to sit us in the bar and wait until a table is available. We were then given a booth after one couple left. While we were dining, we noticed after an hour, there were plenty of available booths for guests and thought to ourselves, "where are those guests that this guy told us are coming?" Obviously, they pick a guest that they can put in their "not the most attractive" table (and see if they would take it) so it's easier for them to sit other potential guests quicker with the nicer tables/booths. It's like selling goods that are close to expiring first and sell the rest later. But by doing this, they are discriminating guests. Is it because of our ethnicities or the way we look?
What also draw us to this restaurant is their long list of wines/beers from their website but when we were ordering our choice of beer, they said that they don't have it and the guy even challenged us to show him that it is in their website and he apologized when we showed it to him. He said that their website is not updated yet. So it is false marketing. Imagine if we had gone all the way to Ottawa from a 2-hour drive somewhere just to taste that beer that is no way near their bar.
But because we had a lovely time the rest of the evening, we will still come back with hopes that we won't be treated the same way this first time we were there.
The wine, oysters and company was amazing. I love this little place. A huge selection for wine and reasonable prices!
Great atmosphere food and service. Made for a great night !
Awesome food and wine. Very busy and a bit too noisy.
Great food, great wine and even better ambience
This is my favourite spot in Ottawa. The wine flights are great, the food is phenomenal. It’s the perfect place for a date night
Andre was great! What a beautiful place with amazing food! The drink (wine, cocktails and beer) selection was also one of the largest we have ever seen. The charcuterie board was beyond delicious! I would highly recommend that anyone make a reservation and go visit this beautiful little spot.
An amazing jazz lounge, playing nice jazz in the background, or local live jazz artists during specific times. A nice selection of good wines, the food is usually a good pairing as well. Thank you for the great evening!
I hadn’t been there in ages, but it was just as much fun this go around. They had a great selection of wine flights
I loved the live jazz. It added another layer to the ambience that was just incredible! The food was amazing too. It felt a little understaffed, but the service we received was very warm and welcoming.
Visiting Ottawa for the weekend - used to live here. Vines, as it was known in the late 80's and early 90's was a favourite spot of mine and I was excited to return on this trip.
Had dinner here on Fri. 14 with my son and a friend - we enjoyed it so much we came back on Sunday with an additional friend for dinner again and live jazz. Music was excellent and food was good. Love the ambience and service was friendly and attentive. Of all restaurants I have been in Ottawa, Toronto and Hamilton - as well as many other places - this is my favourite for its ambience. I recommended it to any friends travelling to Ottawa and they always say it is their favourite activity and or memory.......
The ambiance, the service, the music were great but the food was a huge disappointment. My steak was lukewarm and my husband's chicken parmigiana was so overcook he could barely cut it with a serrated knife. It appears the chicken was deep fried for too long and there was very little tomato sauce or cheese. I returned my steak and they did give me another meal. My husband choose not to return his meal but did let the server know it was unsatisfactory. The management did not charge us for our shared dessert a value of $10. We appreciated the gesture but would have preferred having a well prepared meal.
Everything was excellent from service to food. I used to be a regular in the 80s and early 90's and moved to Hamilton. It was always a favourite venue of mine and I was thrilled that it is still there and still awesome.
What a great business plan...
Serve overpriced low quality food and ignore customer complaints. Genius!
Our Valentine’s Day seafood feast platter was rushed and missing the crab legs. Far too expensive for what you get; the bonus was the upset stomach you get. For the price, I was really disappointed. My husband and I were sick the entire night.
Wine menu was mediocre. Flights served in cloudy glasses. Desert was supposed to be a Maple syrup crème brûlée but got a lemon cheesecake with overpowering lavender instead. chocolate dipped strawberries mushy inside and tasted previously frozen. Thanks for the bread.
Food and wine were fantastic! Great atmosphere as well, loved it.
It was a wonderful Valentine’s Day date, would definitely recommend, and hope to return soon!
Great venue, I would say classic. But the most important - live music. Jazz 3 nights a week, amazing misitians. Overall such a great place to spend evening !!! Love it :)))
Thanks so very much!! Hope to see you back soon. Barb & Team
We have been to Vineyards many times over the years but were disappointed to find that the menu has been dramatically reduced. Only 1 type of mussels ( Thai ) compared to 4-5 before. The saving grace was our server allowed us to order from the upstairs menu which all 4 of us did. Great place for wine and beer - best selection in the city and neat ambiance. BUT not necessarily recommended for any dining .
We have been going to Vineyards for a while now! We love the service, Michelle is awesome -:). The food is quality driven, there are many flights of wine/beer to choose from the available variety. Easy parking on the Byward market on Sunday for dinner and oh, I forgot! At Vineyards you can order food from their menu or from the Fish Market menu, too! Atmosphere is calm, respectful and always a place where we are well treated. We highly recommend this special stone Vineyards.

Thanks so very much Nicole and Earl! We love how much you enjoyed yourselves and I have shared this with Michelle who was over the moon about your review... hope to see you again soon. :) Barb & Team
Great spot. Decent food. Service very friendly. Food a little slow getting out
Warm ambiance, good food, good music and good service!
Great selection of wine and food! A bit small and cramped. Loud group gatherings affect the ambiance of the great place.
This is one of my favourite go to places. You can count on good food and wine and the ambience encourages conversation.
We enjoyed the soft jazz music which enhanced our dining experience. Tasting three scotch brands with the "flight" package was also a highlight of the evening. I discovered the Auchentosha for the first time. Love the decor and the service was friendly and professional.
Our server Melissa was very attentive and pleasant. Having the choice of a flight of 3 wines or a choice of 5 beers was a lot of fun. The steak with the $17 fries was quite good and everyone was happy with their choice of meal.
We sat at the bar to listen to live jazz on Sunday night. The beet salad was amazing and Michelle (although extremely busy) was attentive and ensured we had everything we needed for our evening.
Great service. Our waitress knew the wine menu pretty well and was able to provide suggestions based on our specific preferences. I had a rose and a red. My friend had two reds. We were both really satisfied.
The food was just ok. We only ordered appetizers: fried calamari and cauliflower wings. I thought the calamari were really small so i was mainly tasting the breaded part. The cauliflower wings were good but a bit too salty to my taste. We didn’t finish either plate.
The noise level was pretty high but it was still a good ambiance for a night out. I would recommend the place for wine.
The Service was great. 3 of the 4 meals were better than the expected Pub style food while the fourth was not as good. This 4th was a chicken Ceasar salad. While the salad itself was good, the added chicken was so over cooked it was dry and difficult to eat.
Overall, this is a great place to get together with friends and try the various beer available. We found that the wine was so overpriced that we did not try it. A $9 bottle of Primitivo, Botter in the LCBO is more than 4 x that here.
One of our favourite places to relax and catch up with friends or have a date night. Unfortunately this last visit the service was quite slow and uneven. The server was friendly but slow to get us started and we didn’t see her often, even though the restaurent was quiet. Perhaps there was an extenuating circumstance that we weren’t aware of. There were other servers that filled in the gaps and got us what we needed however, and they were great. Food is always consistently good. We will return and do recommend this place to others.
Every thing was fine , chicken parmesan, steak frites but major problem with the calamari. They were cold and extremely tough and very chewy. We kept thinking the next one would be fine but they were all like that. Surprising to know this restaurant is down stairs from a fresh seafood place The Fish Market where the fish for this restaurant comes from. Definitely not fresh and perhaps over cooked or even pre frozen. We mentioned it to the waiter and he came back saying did we want another order of them which we refused as we thought we might get the same thing again besides at this point we were a bit put off. We were surprised when our bill came and we were still charged the full amount for the calamari. We have eaten here several times before but never tried the calamari. I think this matter should be looked into. We did enjoy the main courses, atmosphere and service.

Customer service was amazing. Not our first time there and won’t be our last.
The jazz music was performed by single guitarist, not the band.
Cold cut disk is delicious but the Thai mussels wasn’t interesting and became cold quickly.
I ordered the flying wine with 3 different glasses of wines each flying, but I didn’t noticed that not regular size. There was a little bit wine in each glass, understandable why it is cheap price.
Service was good, the server was friendly and took attention to clients.
One of my favorite restaurants in Ottawa. I love how quaint it is, makes for a nice ambiance and evening with friends. The food was delicious, and I can't speak high enough about the service.
Great choice of food and drinks. Perfect for a group. Evenings that include live jazz music takes it up a notch.
Great restaurant, great choice of food and drinks. We were surprise how low was our bill, even if we drank quite a lot. My pastas were DELICIOUS, and the warm bread was well appreciate with the creamy sauce!
I absolutely love this place, whenever I have to take people out, this is my go to place! The food, the wine flights....just everything about this place I love...I have been going here for at least 10-12 years.... we are going again on Saturday to have an afternoon of scotch....
Don't ever lose your magic touch!
When my husband and I travel, we always look for a place with great wine and live jazz music...Vineyards did not disappoint. The food was amazing, the wine list was outstanding and the live music (Peter Woods) was incredible. Should we find ourselves in Ottawa again, we will definitely be back!!
