Viale dei Romani
Inspired first by trips to the Mediterranean coasts, our cuisine highlights the principles of Italian cooking with broader Southern French and North African influences. The rich and far reaching culinary history of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, and the Moorish impact on the southern European Coast likewise influence our offerings with highlights including wood-fired seafood, raw fish preparations, hand rolled pasta, world class pizza, notable items such as the traditional chickpea crêpe ceccina, pasta alla piastra, chicken tagine and various fried rice dishes.
Comfortable, stunning, delicious and great service
Incredible food and service. Will definitely return.
Always so good, my fave Italian in LA
The rigatoni was WAY too salty. Otherwise everything delish.
Main course fish was barely warm
Love this place though they haven’t cultivated a daytime crowd so it is mostly an empty restaurant. One of our appetizers was terrible and they kindly didn’t charge us. Overall, the place is beautiful and refined. Most dishes are excellent. Plus during the day the valet is free! Disappointed that you don’t get reward points on Open Table when you dine here. Open Table needs to rethink that as it’s a nice perk to reserving here. Is that the fault of the restaurant not wanting the Open Table fee? The diner shouldn’t get caught in the middle.
We had an odd experience where we were seated by the door on a cold night. One of the staff repeatedly came through and kept leaving it open, even after we and another table would get up each time to close it. It was very strange, passive-aggressive behavior, as this back and forth must have occurred at least 5 times before he finally ceased.
Great food and great service, food came reasonably fast too
First time here. Nice greeting, followed by friendly, professional service. Simple presentation of flavorful food. Nothing but positives with the experience.
3rd time I have been here and they have run out of food.
Enjoyed our dinner. Beautiful and comfortable location. Service was superb.
I am sad to say that the quality here has slipped over the past year.
Portions have gotten smaller and the prices are now a bit crazy. $31 for a single serving of Lasagna that was burned at the edges?
The Mussels arrived in a lovely sauce but were miniscule. The Branzino was a small fillet that was served in a weird sweetie I sauce that did nothing for the fish.
This was one of my few favorite restaurants in Los Angeles but I just cannot reccomend it any longer.
Love the chicken , it is my favorite , a must go to and eat.
The service was outstanding. Food mediocre with a pretty high price tag.
My favorite Italian in LA! Service, atmosphere is always excellent and food continues to wow. Wine suggestions are superlative.
Great meal in an enchanting space. Will be back for sure.
Everything was great with one exception. The portion very small.
I wouldn't classify Viale dei Romani as one of the very best Italian restaurants in Southern California but it was an enjoyable experience and I would give it another try. Bruschetta with heirloom tomatoes, little gem salad with tahini vinaigrette, and branzino with chanterelles were lovely. But a special pizza diavola was bland beyond belief and a casarecce pasta with rabbit sausage was chewy and served tepid. The service was really amiable though and the modern lobby of the hotel space is a noteworthy attraction.
Every dish we ate was a taste experience. The scallops were an amazing combination of flavours and the appitizers were supurb, get the Iberico ham. "Oh my God, this is good" was repeated over and over again. We would definitely go back to this restaurant.
The service was great! The ambiance was great! The food itself was just honestly, not very good.
Quaint place but the food was not memorable
Great dining experience! The food was delicious and creative. The service was also outstanding. I’ve already recommended it to others! Thanks to Gabe for his friendly hospitality!!
A real find...tucked away I side the Le Peer Hotel between Melrose.and Santa Monica. Just charming and the food is delicious. Not inexpensive...entrees.average around $30...drinks are.very.expensive...$24.for a single.malt....ridiculous.
But a wonderful meal in a beautiful space.
Loved our food( endive salad, chicken for 2, etc) and presentation special. Serving pieces distinctive and aesthetically appealing. Seating comfortable and could actually have a conversation without straining to hear. Service was also outstanding. Will definitely be back soon!
Met a friend for brunch Saturday morning. There seemed to be a nice mix of locals and hotel guests, and there were options for sitting in sunny windows or further back out of direct sun. The staff and service were polite and attentive without being too formal. Friendly and warm, not intrusive. The food was delicious and the room was beautiful.
Some of the most innovative and delicious Italian food in all LA. If you like fresh clean tasting dishes this is your place. We loved everything from the crudo starter to dessert and tea!
This restaurant was highly recommended to me. I made an 8 p.m. reservation for 4 of us. we got seated right away but waited a good 10-15 minutes before anyone showed up to our table. When the waiter Tony showed up he took our drink order and it took about 20 minted to get our drinks. We literally got our drinks at 8:50, 30-40 minutes after we were seated! We had to ask for everything, had to ask for bread twice before Tony brought it. Tony just seemed very jumpy and out of it. We ordered a pizza to start and again took about 40 minutes for us to get it. When we asked Tony where was our pizza he said that the pizza oven can only cook 3 pizzas at a time. How is that our problem? Each time Tony would swing by to say "2 more minutes." I called the busboy Luis to ask about our waiter and he saw first hand how jumpy and odd he was behaving. Even though Luis is a busboy, management should seriously consider making him a waiter. I don't know if he is not a waiter for the fact that he is Latino but I can tell you that I would have Luis serve me any day. Luis was the one that kept coming to our table to make sure everything was ok. After a 2.5 long dinner the 4 of us left disappointed knowing that we will never go back. It is truly a shame as the food was good. Perhaps if Luis would've been our waiter our experience would've been a positive one.
I have been to VdR several times previously and really enjoyed it. This time, though, the food and service were "off." Not bad, not great, just not inspired by any measure. It was really disappointing because I'd taken a friend who'd never been there and had said to expect a really great meal. I hope it was a one-time blip.
They were having service issues that evening, with a long wait to order drinks and dishes delivered at very different times. The food is still excellent, but not a great value.
Thank Jeremy Francois for great recommendations & warm, friendly & prompt service! Great food, decor, lovely china! Our entire company enjoyed the evening profoundly:) compliments to the chef!
We love this restaurant however this visit was sadly not on par with previous. THe main reason was there was a table of very loud, very drunk people right by us who not only were causing a disturbance for us but everyone else sat around them. Everyone likes to have a fun time at dinner but they were SO LOUD it was ridiculous. Apparently they were friends of the hotel/owner so couldn't be asked to leave.
Such a shame as every time we have been before it has been great. Oh and the music was too loud and not the most appropriate for a cool space.
I will definitely be coming back and have already told friends about Viale. I don't know what other people are thinking when they say the Lasagna needs flavor. I loved it. I also don't think Lasagna should be oozing cheese, so maybe that is what are expecting. Our friends loved the Octopus and we all devoured the steak. The decor is also beautiful.
We had a reservation for 3:00 byt the restaurant wasnt even open, so we ate in the pool/bar area.
We expected the full menu, but we got only the bar menu. The food was good, but since we were celebrating a birthday we wanted a more robust menu.
Nice ambiance, but not romantic. Waiter was nice enough, although a little snooty. He didn’t tell us about one of the specials that everyone was ordering and when we inquired he replied that the kitchen didn’t encourage him to push it. The food was very good and it was a nice evening.
We were seated in the shade on the lovely outdoor patio and enjoyed everything about our visit except the music that was playing during lunch. We felt that if it hadn't been for the annoying music, the experience would have been perfect.
Food was well prepared and presented, and service was attentive. However, I had indicated when I made the reservation that this was a birthday celebration, and no notice or mention was made by our server regarding that.
We were happy to see the parade of friendly, lovely dogs, all of whom stopped by our table for a pat.
We did the Dine LA and I thought it was a great value. I had the branzino, and it was great, the server didn't mention that it was going to be sitting on top of mountain of fantastic green beans! Overall, i liked the ambiance, noise was about right, we could talk but not listen to the people next to us. I would return.
Sooooooooo delicious! Second time ordering the taste and can’t wait to go back again! Don’t miss out on the rice pudding!
