Umami Burger - The Grove
Harry the manager was the best person I’d ever encountered at Umami burger.
This was for a birthday celebration, which was mentioned in the original reservation, though no mention was made at the restaurant. That’s fine as it wasn’t expected, just a little disappointing.
I went to the restaurant for an early dinner with my 2 children on Saturday evening. The staff at the front desk had attitude and where very unfriendly. No smile, no welcome, just a surly glare and we were told to sit & wait whilst they prepared a table. Note, the restaurant was almost empty.
We sat for nearly 10 minutes and no one came over. I counted 7 staff chatting and having a laugh near the kitchen and watched and waited but no one came over. Finally the water person came over to give us water and I asked to make our order.
He sent a server over who informed me “I’m not your server but I’ll take your order.” Well thank you for doing your JOB.
Very poor service, food was just ok, atmosphere was dull, the restaurant wasn’t clean (tables smeared with grease & fries squashed into the floor).
Will not go again and would never recommend to a friend.
Food wasn’t great, waiter kept mishearing it’s forgetting about out items, had to wait for a table though we had it booked, their kitchen supposedly wasn’t getting orders out in time, meanwhile they restaurant wasn’t even half full. Had to wait for food for way too long and when it arrived it was Macdonald level.
We had put this place on priority to revisit once we moved away. We discovered on our visit that they took away the vegan truffle burger. My only reason for coming. No longer carry the ingredients to even conjure one up. Changed thin fries for thick. Changed drinks fresh made to a bottle. Our waiter suggested we complain on reviews, like many others he knew are missing these things too. Sorry you lost our business unless you make changes.
I had there tuna salad which was just not adequate. The portion was very small and I left unsatisfied. I wanted to finish my meal with a coffee but they don’t serve coffee.
Awesome place! Great service...
I have heard nothing but good things about this place, but sadly I had a bad experience. After asking for a well done burger they sent out two completely raw burgers. At that point I just said I wanted the check because my kiddo was done eating. They credited the burger on my bill which I appreciated.
Chilled but the burgers are amazing! Great service
Food at umami just isn’t why it used to be. Even the classic umami burger is a shadow of its former self. Service is poor, except for the manager who does what she can to make to for mediocre food and service.
Perfct service and delicious burgers. I would highly reccomend to everyone.
The burgers are absolutely incredible. The impossible truffle burger is a must!!!! Definitely try the fries as well.
It was really great food and service 👍😁
Service was quick and food was delicious
The burger was done completely wrong! First we thought they brought the wrong order. However that was not the case. I asked how come there is American cheese on there & not grilled onions. So we returned the burger, server said sorry, bring out a new burger. Second time the burger had 2 patties and raw onions.. we decided to take off the onions & just eat it. The fries were already eaten. Than the bill came & charged us for both burgers & again the server apologized & took it off. It was the worst burger I have ever eaten! I have been to other locations & they were good burgers. I’ll never go there again!
The buns, thin fries, sweet potato fries were good, but the patties were only a little better than In-n-Out, and the sauce didn’t impress me either.
The air conditioning did not work and smokers were next to several tables. The bun was burn on the inside and also cold. The server was great when she came to our table.
Very relaxing and enjoyable lunch on the outdoor patio! I loved the impossible trufflemaker and the sauces that came with the onion rings! Lovely experience!
It was a quiet afternoon, was there with my family and the kids, only 2 tables were occupied at that time beside us. Loved the food but only drawback was the pickles were not tasty.
Burger delicious, kids loved the chicken strips
Terrible service. Fun for our toddler to play outside while we ate.
The Cali burger tastes like an in n out burger. It was still good though.
Still wondering where the umami was. A relatively flavorless burger, over cooked, with a side of room temperature skinny fries on the side (which would have been good if they were hot) and a server who could not care less. For a FIVE O,CLOCK meal on a weekday (we were the only ones there when we arrived), EVERYTHING should have been better.
What’s all the fuss? No umami anywhere to be seen or tasted.
The truffle fries are amazing! The burgers are OK, but the fries and UFO I have dreams about!
Great tasting food, lots of options but figure out what you want quickly so that the wait staff doesn't get busy with other tables.
Wait staff was great but kitchen was slow
Stopped in before the movie- the Brussels srouts with kimchi were out of this world!
The kids play area outside is genius !
Sent back the chicken lollipops as they erred in order only to have them send it to me regro
Burger was over cooked. Service was slow. Bill was $60.00 ore tip for 2 burgers and 2 beers. I’m done here.
Burger was burnt, drink was brought after we finished eating, all the booster seats were broken-had to go through 4 to find one that worked, when we arrived the host said she had our reservation but did not have a table for us, the restaurant seemed short staffed and unorganized
I didn’t get my table
Made a reservation with opentable for 12:45. Needed time to make it to a movie. Got there and they told us never to make a reservation with open table because they don’t look at reservations made with opentable. Waited 25 minutes for our table. Sat at 12:50, got to movie late.
The food was definitely the best part of the visit. Everything from the DineLA menu was really good, especially the ufo dessert.
Unfortunately everything else about the visit was terrible. I understand that it was a Sunday night, but it wasn’t anywhere near closing and the place was actually fairly busy because of the holiday weekend and football game. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and seated by a very friendly host. That was the best service we had all night. Our server seemed to not want to be at work that evening, showing no enthusiasm or friendliness at all. I would never expect anything over the top, but she didn’t even give a basic level of service. We saw her when she took our drink orders, then our food order. A runner dropped off our apps. The server dropped off our main courses while another runner dropped off our desserts. Our server never once checked on us during our meal, never refilled our waters or took away our finished plates before dessert. She had to be flagged down to get the check, and when she brought back the copy to sign simply said “there you go” and walked away. No “thank you” or anything approaching a friendly send off.
I was also surprised to find the men’s bathroom a disaster, with water covering the floors (with no sign) tp rolls just sitting loose on the back of the dirty toilets rather than in the dispenser, and a pile of wet seat covers on the stall floor. My date found the women’s room in a similar state. None of these messes looked recently made. There were a few workers doing side work at the bar who could have easily taken care of this. A MIC also would’ve easily caught it during a walkthrough.
I was very happy to have been able to try a variety of delicious food, but unfortunately the service and ambience would make me question ever eating at Umami Burger again. I definitely would not ever visit the location at The Grove if I did. Very disappointing.
I went extremely excited for a good burger. The appetizers and fries were delicious. The burger was cooked well but was missing something for my taste. I would be willing to try a different burger if it wasn’t for the service. My waitress was horrible. Just terrible, didn’t check on us once and was extremely slow to do everything. What made it worse was I saw every table in her section because it was obvious and she was hardly busy. She’s implying kept apologizing for how long it took and said it was busy. It was not busy for her. It should not have taken up close to two hours there! The dessert was okay, the UFO was better than the ice cream sandwich.
Really good deal with Dine LA and our server was excellent.
Service was slow with drinks. Food came out first & we had to ask the manager for our drinks. Food was decent but service was not. It wasn’t that busy either.
The food was delicious and our waitress was very sweet!
Very expensive burgers. You would think with spending almost $15 on each burger that some fries would come with it!!! No! They are extra!! Spent over $80 on just ok food and salad poured out of a bag. Would not go back
Best tasting burger I’ve had in a while. Wings were good but very spicy and the sweet potato fries came out cold but the burger was worth it all.
It was my birthday and my niece is always raving about Umami Burger. She picked the restaurant, we ended up at Umami Burger in The Grove. It was my first time there. Definitely planning on going back soon. It was delicious!
