Staff was amazing, knowledgeable and fun. The food was spectacular as well as delicious. The building is interesting and creepy all at once. Certainly a must do.
The freshest local ingredients married to the creativity of some superb culinary professionals AND some very well-informed and knowledgeable waitstaff. What could be better for a first time out to dinner after Covid hit!
We are frequent diners at Trattoria Stella. This restaurant never disappoints! Our meals were perfect, we had some special requests due to dietary restrictions and Stellas handled it well, delicious modifications as needed. We had friendly and knowledgeable service. Great suggestions for wine pairings. Stellas continues to be one of the best restaurant experiences we have had anywhere.
My husband and I go at least once a year for my birthday. 100% I would recommend the duck foie gras! But there has been nothing yet that we have had and been disappointed.
This was our second time at Trattoria Stella and we had been looking forward to going back for months! We love the food, atmosphere, and service. The venue is beautiful and intimate. We had calamari as an appetizer, swordfish and Agnolotti for entrees, and gelato for dessert. Absolutely amazing. Anything you order will not disappoint.
Craig took very good care of us. The food was delicious, as usual. We both tried something from the specials menu and both entrees were amazing!
The only disappointment we had was that we were craving the delicious bruschetta and it was not on the menu that day.
Otherwise, amazing. Love to visit Stella on our trips to Traverse City.
Without question, Stella is one of, if not the best fine dining experience in the state. The cocktail program is outstanding and everything we ate from starters to entrees was perfect. Worth. The. Money. Dining here will become a Traverse City Tradition for us. It’s that good.
Whenever we visit TC, we always make a point of having dinner at Stella. The food and the service are always superior to any place else. Simply the best restaurant in TC.
Trattoria Stella is located in an old Asylum in Traverse City, making the atmosphere interesting/different. The food is excellent, and service was wonderful as well.
Server was knowledgeable and gave excellent wine recommendations. She described the menu items in detail with the charcuterie being top notch as well as the pork entree. This wonderful meal came to a poor ending with two desserts lacking in style. The tiramisu was served on a brownie base and we were unable to cut the pavlova meringue.
The best in TC! Great food and service. One of our favorite spots anywhere.
This was my second visit to Trattoria Stella and they did not disappoint. We had the most wonderful waiter, Craig. He was knowledgeable about the menu and was able to help one in our party with a food allergy. The tables felt cozy, like we were the only ones in the restaurant. The food was excellent! From the burrata appetizer to the veal chop that was on special. If you are in Traverse City make this one of your stops!
Our server ALI was amazing. Everything was really good, the Octopus and the old old fashioned where perfect!
Trattoria Stella never disappoints. The food is always locally sourced and prepared expertly. The staff is very well versed on the menu and the wines.
We travel often and eat at some very nice restaurants and Stella’s continues to top our list.
Our server described the food like ready a line of poetry. The food equality matched the description It was an amazing meal.
A perfect evening! Started with a very knowledgeable waiter, wine and burrata. Almost too full to have dinner, but bravely marched forward. Squid ink fettucine was outstanding and my wife said same about her pasta dish. No room for dessert after such good food and wine. Plenty quiet to hold conversation or fall asleep after dinner!
Food was delicious and we enjoyed the cocktails as well.
Trattoria Stella is a must do location for us when we visit Traverse City. As usual, everything was 100.percent perfect from the service to the food. On a side note, during these strange COVID times, we felt they did a great job with protecting us and themselves by respecting social
Distancing, mask wearing and restaurant cleanliness. We were so glad to be able to have the opportunity to dine with them.
Hands down the best restaurant in TC! The nightly specials are out of this world!
It was so good! Definitely the best food in town! Such a classy establishment! Will go back for sure!!!!
Honestly, just amazing. I had an incredible server who helped make the meal even better. Burrata for life. It’s a fantastic location and would be a perfect date night. As a non-local, I will try and eat here every time I am in town. Absolutely delicious, and while not inexpensive, it is worth every penny. I loved it!!! A+++++
Excellent food and Our waiter Skyler was outstanding
Unique cave like setting. Restaurant not easy to find. Food very good with nice wine list.
We sat by the bar and loved the space, the food and drink. While a drive from downtown Traverse City it was easy and worth the trip.
While our server was superb and the food delicious, the evening was less than I'd hoped for because, on a Sunday evening, I had music of The Cars, The Police, and techno music blaring in my ear throughout dinner. I love that music, but not on a Sunday evening for an elegant birthday dinner. Inside the restaurant, the COVID protocol was as promised, but we had a wait for our table and the crowded waiting area was full of folks not wearing masks properly. We around outside and checked back a few times. Some kind of paging system would have been helpful.
Absolutely phenomenal experience, overall. Shay was an excellent server and we would request her again in a heartbeat! The pork tenderloin stole the prize of the night, but everything we got was cooked to perfection. Cocktails were great. Shay tailored to our tastes and her personal touch was noted! Look forward to returning one day.
Easily the best dinner I can remember having in a long time! Went here for our anniversary as a recommendation from a friend and I will absolutely come back again and again! Food was fabulous, wine suggestions from our waitress were delicious, impeccable service, and the ambiance was perfection.
We visited Grand Traverse on an extended getaway weekend with another couple. We chose to dine at Trattoria Stella's based on friends recommendations and reviews on the internet. It's located in a renovated building that was formerly a home for mentally ill patients. Sounds a little creepy, but it's a very cool place. The atmosphere is sort of like a nicely aged Italian wine cellar. The service was off the charts fantastic and our meals were spectacular. Trust your server for their recommendations and wine suggestions. The complex also has the attached "Mercato" which has roughly 14 eclectic boutique shops. If you plan to go through the shops and have dinner make sure you check their open hours and also have dinner reservations. From what we've heard it's difficult to get into Trattoria Stella's, but well worth the effort.
If you are going then you need to try their oysters and their bone marrow. These dishes set the stage for a rich and decedent meal.
This was my best meal at Stellas, we had the burrata, pork tenderloin and scallops. Burrata and pork were excellent, scallops were good but the side dish was disappointing.
I almost didn't make a reservation here because of their ridiculous no-show policy, but I'm glad I did because our dinner was fabulous. For starters we had fried squash blossoms and mussels, and for mains we had oriechette with vegetarian "meatballs" and spaghetti bolognese. All were absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is really nice - it's in a very cool old building with brick arches, and low lighting, giving it an underground sort of feel. Our server was great, although it seemed like she was a bit overtaxed with one large table and several smaller ones. I would highly recommend it and will definitely return if I go back to TC.
It was our first visit, and we were totally impressed, the food was wonderful!!
Our waitress was fantastic, knew her stuff, and her recommendations were
spot on. It's a great place for a special occasion.
Everything was wonderful beginning with the ambience, our waitress and the food. Presentation was exceptional and the quality of the food, superb. Our waitress went out of her way to suggest offerings she thought we would enjoy. Overall, it was a delicious meal and an exceptional dining experience.
Amazing. Highly recommend the burrata. Really cool atmosphere. Service was wonderful.
Every time I visit Stella the service is always top notch! Excellent food and a great ambiance. I always make a reservation when I’m in the area.
We had an amazing dinner with many awesome selections to choose from! Syllabus our waiter was excellent and great quiet ambience , so you could have great conversations without background noise! Better than 5 stars!
So glad to venture out amidst the pandemic. The restaurant was clean, organized, and attentive to details. Our waitstaffers Dylan and Grace made our anniversary evening really special.
If your looking for a romantic dinner in a unique place with the most amazing food then you have to eat here. It's more than a meal it's an experience!
After stopping in for afternoon drinks and charcuterie a couple years ago, we vowed we would return for a dinner the next time we were in Traverse City. Tonight was the night...and it did not disappoint!!!
Everything TOP NOTCH: Server Skyler was terrific...the Red Pizza and the Squash Blossom starters were out of this world. Each of our 3 entrees were very good. Here's what I really found exceptional: My daughter's spaghetti entree didn't come out with the 2 others. Who knows...perhaps they noticed that the requested exclusion of mushrooms was missed...?? They neither let the 2 entrees go cold while the correction was made....nor did they bring the 2 entrees and let the 3rd diner sit without anything. Instead they brought the 2 ready hot entrees and brought the 3rd diner a complimentary cup of piping hot minestrone while noting her spaghetti would be out momentarily...which it was.
Well done, Trattoria Stella! We WILL be back.
