Ambiance was spectacular. Wine was divine, cheese board perfect. Celery salad was my favorite. Didn’t care for beet salad as I prefer the actual flavor of beets and this in my opinion was overdressed. Husband had pumpkin ravioli and he liked it. Perhaps we will come back for other homemade pasta sometime As I wish we would have tried this time

The atmosphere of the restaurant is one of a kind being housed in the old architecturally unique state hospital. The food was amazing. A great dinner to end our vacation in Traverse City.

We love coming here! The food is phenomenal! The first time my husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Trattoria Stella, we visited on our Honeymoon the day after we were married. We enjoyed our experience so much last year, we chose to go back to celebrate our 1st anniversary this year. We love this tradition and look forward to it next year!

My husband’s ravioli was good but my scallops with potatoes were just OK. Our waitress was rather strange. Acted very uneasy and very animated along with a good touch of fake! Dinner went rather slow. We had a reservation for 5:30pm we got there 20min early but we didn’t get seated till 5:35pm. Mind you the restaurant opens at 5pm daily.

Worst of all, the next day my husband got an alert from his CC company regarding 6-$25 Facebook transactions. He automatically called and had the CC cancelled. These charges were fraudulent and someone stole his CC information. It had to be someone at Stella’s because he had not used the card for several days and not used it at all after dinner that day.

Overall, our experience was rather negative. I called the manager to alert them to the situation and of course they dismissed it!

This was our anniversary dinner and we were both very disappointed!

We didn’t end up eating because menu was so limited, maybe bc off season/Monday? If you want steak, fish, pasta you’re good. We’ve been there numerous times and had chicken/pork/veal dishes but not this time. Also, sat us next to loud table of business people which was annoying.

Very interesting and tasty menu. The mussels as appetizer were superb. Our entire party of four rated the food as Excellent. Very competent, knowledgeable waitress. Highly recommended.

Had a problem with two of the entrees. The special rib eye was extremely tough. Once we informed the waiter of the issue, the manager came over and handled the situation very professionally. For a place as pricey as it is, you would think this kind of situation wouldn't occur.

Great restaurant, great food, great service and great drinks. The waiter was just wonderful! I asked for recommendations and he did a great job explaining the uniqueness of the dishes. I was a bit hesitant to try one of the dishes he suggested, so he said if I didn't like it he would get me something else. I am so glad I tried it! It was fabulous!!! The wine he suggested was also perfect!

Atmosphere the best! We both had pasta dishes and my pumpkin ravioli was just okay. Had a tomato based sauce and was garnished with sliced jalapeños. My husband ordered the cappelletti and waiter came back and said they were out of it. He then ordered a seafood pasta and said it was excellent. Waiter then brought us dessert menu and we decided on two desserts. When waiter came back to table, he then proceeded to tell us they were out of two desserts. Of course, the ones we wanted. So we skipped dessert! Huge selection of wines that are priced very well.

I have been to Trattoria Stella more than once and each time did not disappoint. My husband was with me on this trip and I specifically chose Stella so he could experience it. We had lamb shank with lamb meatballs. It was DELICIOUS. Moist, tender, flavorful. I would highly recommend (I just did!). It will not disappoint.

We were seated at a small table in a corner that didn't leave much room to be comfortable. Servers were prompt and professional. Food was very good as usual, although the chefs choice of saffron risotto with my pork osso buco did not work flavorwise. Portions were generous. Overall we enjoyed the meal.

Food was more about the chef trying to be unique and different rather than solid, good and identifiable. The result was only so/so. For instance, no classics and not a single chicken dish. I do not like restaurants where the feature is the chef's ego and not the food served.

This is frustrating because a year ago we had one of the best meals of our lives at Trattoria Stella. This time our table was in a crowded noisy area. Our waiter varied from stopping by too often to AWOL when we wanted to leave. The wine list is the most confusing we’ve ever encountered and dominated by local wines. The arugula salad was just ok. The trout was outstanding and the highlight of the meal. The tiramisu tasted like it had been sitting in the refrigerator for a week. Sadly, we are unlikely to return.

The bar area and seating are very eclectic. Great Martinis! Nice atmosphere but the menu was too gourmet for my tastes.

Definitely worth trying, you my like it.

I've been to Trattoria a few times over the past few years and have always loved the food. We're from the Metro Detroit area. A couple of my dear friends from CA are in town visiting this week. We took them to TC for the weekend and had dinner at Trattoria Friday evening. I raved about the food to everyone; we were all looking forward to a wonderful unique meal. I must say, 2 out of the 4 of us were very disappointed with the food! I had the scallops which were over cooked. They were not tender and more on the chewy side. The seasoning was overpowering. The corn and potatoes side was salty and did absolutely nothing to compliment the scallops. It was just a bad composition. My friend ordered the agnolotti; they were also chewy. The pasta were hard. Neither one of us enjoyed our meal at all. The presentation of both dishes was subpar, something you would expect from an average diner, not from an upscale restaurant. My husband ordered the rainbow trout. He didn't mind it but I took a bite of the trout and was not impressed. My friend's husband ordered the wild boar tenderloin. The wild boar tenderloin was the only thing that was exceptional; however, the side veggies were ordinary, average at best. I have to give credit to our server. She was very nice. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed! Not sure if I'll ever be back again.

We were celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary! To which, I proposed to my wife in this very same restaurant 7 years prior! It was such a thrill to bring her back to where it all started! The ambiance, the service, the food, everything was perfect! The staff does an excellent job at making your dinner/night a great experience!

Fabulous food served by a very attentive waiter! The shaved celery salad was unique and delicious and the lamb special truly was! After a rough start, the evening was saved by the manager who found us a quiet table after we were originally seated by the kitchen and plate cleaning station, despite including the information that it was our anniversary in our reservation. The attitude of the hostess regarding our request for change of table was not pleasant. Thank you to the management for making it right!

My sister and I dined here on a Friday evening recently and had a wonderful night. All of the food was incredible we indulged quite a bit and sampled the: burrata, pick 3 cheese plate, romaine salad, my sister had some sort of empanada and then I had the scallops for my main course (out of this world) and she had the wild boar which was on special. The server was extremely accommodating of my gluten allegory and even provided some delightful extra options to make my experience even better (check out the baked parm cracker pic!). She was also extremely well-versed at the wine selection available and really helped to identify something that was perfect for our differing palates. We adored our experience and I look back to returning again, hopefully with my husband for a romantic evening :)

This was our third visit to Trattoria in as many years, and as usual we were not disappointed. The restaurant was packed. We had a reservation and were promptly seated at our reservation time. Despite the crowd at this restaurant, every dining experience feels intimate and personal. We had the wild boar filet and a meatball dish with fried sage and pasta. Both were delicious! Our server Kathryn was amazing! Very personable and attentive, and truly made the evening.

Absolutely phenomenal! Second time here. We ordered carpaccio, pasta and meat entrees, and an apple crostata for dessert. The waiter suggested a great wine. One of my favorite restaurants around.

I was on my vacation and this was to be my premier meal out. I had read and heard so much about this place and as a foodie couldn't wait to try it. To start of with, the place had just opened for the day and the young hostess seated me at the furthest, in a corner, table in the place. I rarely complain but it was a horrible seat. I went and asked her for another table and was seated in a delightful area. I would have understood if it was a busy time or weekend, but a Wed. at 5 pm?
On to the food, I went in knowing it would be pricey, so that was OK. rigatoni and beef tips for $30. No salad or soup. It was so salty it was barley edible. The only thing I could think of was the pasta was not rinsed. I made the best of it, but very disappointing. I have been to all of the old world Italian places around Detroit so maybe I am spoiled. Maybe it was a one time problem? Either way there are to many other places in traverse to try without going in and blowing $50 bucks on marginal, at best, food. Sad.
