The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea
From its perch on the hillside above South Maui's Wailea resort area, the restaurant offers sweeping panoramic ocean views from the upper lanai and intimate dining under the stars in the garden. Voted one of OpenTable's Top 100 Most Romantic Restaurants in the US, and Top 10 Restaurants in Hawaii.
Very intimate Setting
Last night on Maui. Our 3 course meal was perfect in all respects. Perfect view, ambiance, food and service. We can’t wait to go back and try the things on the menu we did not order.
Food quality and service was outstanding. Absolutely loved the four course tasting menu. The best dining experience all week, a perfect way to wrap up an amazing family vacation.
Celebrated a birthday. Beautiful sunset view, overlooking the ocean, quiet, romantic, delicious food and drinks! Malani & Frankie took amazing care of us. They both went above and beyond to ensure our evening and experience was outstanding! Can’t wait to dine again.
A bit of a disappointing visit this time. Portions were small and very over priced. We had the sashimi as an appetizer, the scallops (only 2 pieces) and the charred cabbage. All dishes seemed overly sweet and wondered if sugar or honey was added. Wine list was marginal and specialty cocktail "Smoke and Herb" not interesting and also too sugary. Best thing on the menu was a chocolate martini. I know they were busy but we won't be back and paid nearly $300 for 3 very tiny dishes(tapa size) and 4 drinks! The view was wonderful but not worth it since other resorts have better food and just as good views!
This was an incredible experience. I had let them know that it was my partners birthday and each person that came to our table said 'happy birthday' to her. It really made the evening special. The food was exquisite and their wine list is substantial. The price point for four courses was well worth the money and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone celebrating in Maui.
Food was okay but for the price and hype expected more. Scallop appetizer was the highlight of meal. Reservations were also running 15-20 minutes behind and although the restaurant can’t control this no accommodations or drinks were offered while waiting 20 mins in lobby.
The price fixe menu provided plenty of options. The food preparation and plating were excellent. Our waitperson, Darin, was knowledgeable and helpful.
The limitation was: Except for the entree, the portions were small given the overall price. For example, the single thin scallop for the second course, while done perfectly, was simply too small or a second one was needed.
The food, for the price, was just okay.
The real problem, however, was the loud people at the next table. Soon after we were seated, we noticed a couple already seated nearby as they got up and left in a hurry. The woman glanced over at the noisy table and looked away quickly, frowning. She wanted out of there, now. We should have taken their quick departure as a warning. After a few minutes we were frowning, too, because of the noise being generated by the two couples at the table next to ours. And they got louder, still, with the next round of cocktails.
We asked to be reseated. Instead of moving us, the host/manager/maître d came over to "talk" to the noisy table, I'm guessing to quiet them down by modeling a quieter "inside" voice, or something similar. Unfortunately, a louder, even more boisterous conversation ensued that included the host. Our waitress laughed nervously. Grumble.
Finally we were moved to the far end of the dining area, closer to the bar. No apology of any kind was given. As we took our new table, the bartender casual mentioned to us, "Yeah, I can hear them from all the way over here." Hmmm.
Had the food had been spectacular, the whole awkward, uncomfortable incident might have been overlooked. The food was not spectacular.
Romantic and unique
Great food and service. Very elegant and did a great job taking care of my father who is in a wheelchair
Service was very friendly and attentive. Christopher (Chris) was our server, he was very informative and spent time getting to know us. Really enjoyed his positive personality and attentiveness. I also liked the way he appreciated the help from his team. The food was delicious and the ambiance was very relaxing. I loved that they didn't rush us through our meal, they would check when we were ready for the next course. The meal was rapped up with a decadent 8-layer Hazelnut Praline Cake. Mahalo Nui Loa (Thank you very much) Hotel Wailea Restaurant! We will be back!
The service was fabulous. Food was delicious. Amberjack was a bit dry which surprised me given overall quality of food.
Gluten Free options were exceptional as was the restaurant's willingness to accommodate this.
loved every bit of the experience, the menu was excellent, Malani our server made our dinner very special Mahalo!
A delicious 4 course prefix French menu that’d undoubtedly be Michelin-starred if Michelin reviews Maui restaurants. The service was excellent and the ambience and the view are serene and beautiful (come to see the sunset). My only suggestion is to introduce more local Hawaiian flavors in the dishes. Overall an excellent meal.
Incredible view, lovely and sophisticated menu. We ate here two nights in a row. It’s that good.
Delicious Thanksgiving meal. Probably the best turkey I have ever had.
We always make a visit to The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea when on vacation in Maui, This time we should have skipped. It is a set menu. The beers were warm and waitstaff did a terrible job pouring it and it turned flat. The staff was new and awkward. The food was ok. Not my favorite visit. We will return and give them another shot because normally they are amazing.
Derrin and trainee, Megan? were very pleasant and informative of the menu. Checking up on all things very stealthily. Would highly recommend going again next time around.
All of the meal was beautifully presented and of course taste was great! The amounting food looked smaller compared with other restaurants but it was actually perfect size and filled us fully! We’ll definitely come back again!!!
From the food to the staff to the sunset views, everything was exceptional. My boyfriend was originally hesitant to go because nothing on the menu, when viewing beforehand, jumped out at him. He walked away admitting it was the best meal he’s ever had. A special thank you to Samson & Ian for taking such good care of us. Mahalo!
Awesome servers and delicious foods and drinks. We will be back for sure.
The ambiance was amazing. Serving was slow to fair. Dinner was average. Not worth the $359 we spent. It won’t be a do over for us.
Such a great experience. From the friendly greeting, acknowledging our continued business to the amazing table in the secluded and beautiful garden area to the great service, our visit was perfect. The chef’s skill was obvious...the fresh ingredients were perfectly prepared. Our server’s timing and interaction with us was great - he knew exactly how to provide just the right amount of interaction. We can’t wait to come back!
It was a birthday dinner I’d arranged for my wife. There were plenty of choices in the pre fixed menu, and all of our choices were delicious. The service from Ian was personable, quiet, and very helpful.
The restaurant staff wished my wife a happy birthday when they first interacted, and Ian brought a lovely chocolate birthday cake.
Beautiful restaurant, unique food and fantastic service
Excellent dining experience celebrating a birthday. Most expensive meal I’ve ever paid for. Worth every penny👋
Disappointed that the previous chef was no longer there. Thank goodness we ate somewhere else and had an appetizer before arriving. We would have been starving, otherwise. I hate complaining but the appetizer was two miniature shrimp with a nice sauce. Why they couldn’t have included a few extra shrimp that were at least normal size is beyond me.
We have dined here several times and always loved it but the portions now are a half to 2/3’s less. The prefix menu was overpriced for the food that was delivered.
Although we ate here several times last year we will think twice about going back.
Love the setting and the ambience but really wish we had food!
The setting was stunning and the food was impeccable!
Great food, great service, and great ambiance.
Sadly our food was awful.
New chef. Beautiful restaurant, bad food.
Hopefully they’ll get a new chef, again.
Service was great but the menu was quite bland in options. Portion size is laughable. Ambiance is lovely
We celebrated our 29th Wedding Anniversary dinner here with friends. It was an incredible dining experience. Unlike any other we have enjoyed in 29 years of coming to Maui! Can’t wait to come back and stay at the Hotel Wailea for our 30th and enjoy more meals here!
Great experience. Staff were very kind and engaging. Food was awesome. Beautiful ambiance 👍🏻
The food was fantastic but the portions were tiny so we left hungry.
This hotel is GORGEOUS first of all. The restaurant has so many special touches and a beautiful view of the water & mountains. The dining experience is wonderful. A lengthier dinner but also very pricy. It was worth it for a nice birthday dinner. Delicious food and decadent presentation. It was an experience and memorable too!
The hotel and grounds itself were incredible. Very romantic and beautiful. Restaurant food and staff could not have been better. So attentive to every detail and delicious. Highly recommend for a special evening.
It was a return visit-and you didn’t disappoint. Will hopefully be returning mid January 2021 and looking forward to making another reservation.
