We came here specifically for the fun experience of cooking our own meat. We were told to go ahead and start with an “all you can eat salad bar”. Sizzler has better options than this salad bar that had nothing more than lettuce and cold pasta salad. It was ridiculously plain.
When we picked up our meat we excitedly walked over to the huge grill area. We noticed a group of ppl waiting around while an employee who was supposed to give suggestions on how to cook, was cooking everyone’s meat.
I asked another customer about it and he frustratingly replied, “he’s kind of taken over and won’t let anyone cook”
I walked over with my daughter and asked if we could begin with our own meat and he replied, “I wouldnt If I were you”. I watched as excited groups of ppl went over to cook their food and he would grab their plates and do it himself.
I respectfully Spoke with the waitress about this, and she was confused and went to the grill and told the guy to allow ppl to cook. He shot me a dirty look and stuck us on the part of the grill that was consumed in hot smoke.
We sat back down and I couldnt help but to watch family after family approach the grill with enthusiasm only to have their plates and their experience taken away.
So when all was said and done, I paid $100 for a piece of chicken, a piece of salmon (that he burnt a huge chunk off the top) and lettuce.
We commented again to the waitress on our way out about how the guy really was taking away a fun experience from people and her response was, “yeah he’s kind of new and really controlling. I’ll let the manager know. Sorry”
Chicken and swordfish were overcooked and dry. Waiter seemed as if he didn't want to be there.
Marlin was cooked perfectly but the seared ahi was slightly over cooked.
The food was exceptional. We had the ribeye steak and the chicken. Both came out tasty and delicious. We had a beach front table and the view is great. one can see Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach. Get the coupon for 15% off your meal.
The ambiance was nature itself- an ocean front window with a sunset view. The set up is that you select your meal, complete with protein the you cook yourself on an open grill. It's great for a date night or family and friends. I would go again.
When this used to be Shorebirds it was wonderful. Even almost two years ago when it reopened as the reef it was decent. However it is now sub par quality of food, limited selection and over priced.
Food was ok. Eggs were runny. Service was great.
Great for breakfast. Great views. Breakfast at 8am, there were lots of open tables with an open ocean view.
I enjoy this venue for the beachside view and the attractive parking rate. The hardest worker is the omelet chef. The rest of the buffet is limited and barely attended to by kitchen staff. The bread section is a mess with a couple small pastries. Chafing dishes close to empty most of the time. Charge more or have fewer choices in order to maintain a presentable buffet. This is an island favorite of mine but I may start going else where. Please improve.
Great Valentines Day dinner. Oysters were fresh and tasty, steak a generous portion and cooked perfectly. Lobster tender & sweet. Salad bar had a good variety of fresh greens & veggies
Server was great. Food sucked and for the price I was not too pleased. Although the server provide outstanding service but the food wasn’t even close to the value I expected for what we paid.
It’s a cafeteria! You pay over $50 for a steak you have to cook yourself over a communal grill and the salad bar well there are lots of kids there so... Yea it’s on the water but there are way better options in Waikiki for that $. We sat down realized the setup and left.
Valentine’s Day . Super loud. Great seat with view of water. Unfortunately other people from the bar want to experience the view of the ocean and stood and yelled and screamed around our table the entire night. A couple of times waiters came and asked people to move. Just to be filled with more drunk party people. The two times we left table to go to salad bar and then to go and grill steaks, we were met at our table with people sitting at our table or standing so close we had to ask them to move repeatedly. We normally avoid high tourist areas as we live on Kauai. We thought let’s do something different and we definitely paid the price. The server was great he tried his best to control what was going on but it was clearly out of his control.
Food was mediocre, service was not so great. Would not go back.
No choices on salad bar. No tomatoes, no carrots, no onions, no celery. The meats are all in one compartment which is unsanitary. A seafood allergen would not survive. They are very pricey to offer so little. Will never go there again.Do not recommend.
The views from the dining room are spectacular and a wonderful experience. The salad bar is lacking with lettuce and not much else which is disappointing but both our self prepared steaks were very nice and tasty. The price is a bit on the steep side considering you are preparing your own steak @ $40 which comes with the minimal salad bar. Adding a side dish of a bake potato or similar are around $8. All and all we enjoyed our evening.
Wonderful view of the ocean! Beautiful restaurant and nice Buffet
Too expensive for what amount of food you get!!!
Good was amazing, view was equally amazing! If we were here long we we would eat here again!
What fun! But little unexpected too! You cook your own steak! But hey.... who cares when you get to see an amazing view while you’re doing it! Our server was awesome! So friendly and attentive! Great salad bar and the steaks are farm fresh and very good! Wish it was slightly cheaper since we cooked it ourselves but oh well it’s Hawaii and vacation. We’ll go back.
It was terrible all around - the salad bar had nothing on it except lettuce, dressing and some
Olives - it was literally more than half empty. Don’t go here - it was a complete waste of time and of the beautiful location. Should be shut down - sooooo many better options nearby.
Great location for sunset dining. The grill-your-own theme is a nice change and can make for a fun evening. Salad bar was clean, fresh, and constantly maintained, just not a lot of options. Would like to see more fruit, maybe rolls or bread, and raw vegetables. Still a great, healthy option. Entrees are pricey, but the location and atmosphere is almost worth it. Better service would make this place worth 5 stars!
Great location for Waikiki vibe. Quality of food leaves something to be desired but you don't go to the "Shorebird" for food.
Salad bar was good. Wanted a steak but didn’t want to cook it myself so I settled for a chicken meal which was ok. We had a great table with a sunset view.
We were disappointed when we found out the Shorebird had closed. However, The Reef Bar has taken their concept, and improved on it. We chose kitchen-prepared meals, and the food was excellent. But it is nice that you can also grill your own meal. The salad bar is still excellent. Of course, the view cannot be beat. Highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Oahu.
Lucky us! We got a table outside overlooking the beach with a direct view of Diamond Head and the sunset.
The fruit plate was wonderful & the vegan soyrizo tacos were delicious. Thanks for all the vegan options.
Norman was not a good waiter... my daughter wanted to grill my ribs, but he brought it to the table cooked. He didn’t show up often or tell us specials. The food was very good though, as always
On vacation. Great place in enjoy the islands. The cook hour own meat is really a nice touch. Had s a great flat iron steak cooked my way. My wife had the pasta. Good wines. Will be back.
Better than before!! Just a tad more options in the salad bar!! But the view was beautiful!!
Not a fan of cooking your own one the grill. Food was fair to best.
