The Red Door San Diego is committed to offering our guests sustainable and responsibly sourced farm-to-fork dishes. We proudly serve contemporary Italian and modern European cuisine with the freshest locally grown and handcrafted products available. We also feature delicious and unique ingredients from around the world. Chef/Owner Luciano Cibelli shops daily, personally selecting every item we serve. He bakes fresh breads, rolls, desserts and all of the pasta in house (including a special Gluten Free Bucatini) and he develops his menus in rhythm with the seasonal San Diego harvest. This is one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in San Diego! The staff is so hospitable and kind. My girlfriend has a few dietary restrictions and Luciano (the owner) came out to our table to go through what she could and couldn’t have and what he could custom make for her. Who knew gluten free bucatini with no garlic or onion could be so delicious! I had the seafood risotto which was spectacular. Our server, Ryan, was also super accommodating and helpful! All around fantastic experience and I look forward to going back to The Red Door soon!

Absolutely amazing food. We came here to celebrate my wife's birthday and what a great decision it was. My wife had the beef welington and I had the lamb shank. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and our cocktails were delicious. The staff was very knowledgeable and hospitable. We were very grateful to be able to meet the owner/chef. This was our first but not last visit. Thank you for helping us celebrate my wife's birthday. We came specifically because she wanted a beef welington for her birthday.

We have been to The Red Door many times and have never ever been disappointed. The food is always outstanding and the service is truly like a warm hug! Hospitality level is always top notch. We always leave and can’t wait to come back! Thank you Red Door team!

WHY you ask??

Great food well prepared by a knowledge staff, and served by a happy professional server.

The wine list is curated and well price and the specialty cocktails are suburb.

Amazing! The ambiance, the food, the service. I will definitely be back. We had the harvest salad, short ribs, papardelle, lobster ravioli and cheesecake for dessert ... everything was decadent and of superb quality. Chef/owner Luciano came to introduce himself and say hello. I would recommend and will definitely be back to indulge.

The food was excellent ! We shared the fantastic Carlsbad mussels as a starter. All our entrees were great. We sat outside in the patio .It was Mother day and weather was perfect. The dishes we ate were tortelloni with veal and mushrooms delish, Jumbo scallops on bed of pesto risotto perfection , seabass over harvest vegetables fresh and delicious and the short ribs over polenta very good too! The portions were amble . We enjoyed a lovely meal. We will return !

5/10/21 was Mother’s Day and also our anniversary. We checked Open Table for a new place. We were intrigued by The Red Door menu and all the great reviews. We went at 1 pm and due to the holiday found the menu to be limited and not what we read on their website. But we had no trouble finding something delicious. I had scallops over risotto and my husband the braised spare ribs on polenta. Everything was superb. Our waiter was attentive and made great suggestions. We’re going there again.

Im vegan and I checked the menu on their website before booking, only to find out most of the vegan items weren’t available that day due to having a limited mother’s day menu. Wish their website indicated this before I booked, as I wanted to try the vegan nachos etc. Only a salad and one pasta dish could be made vegan, which was ok but for the price, not worth it. However we had a great server and a lovely outdoor table.

This was my first time eating (lunch) at this restaurant. We sat outside and despite two separate siren-situations, the patio was clean & pleasant. The staff were very nice. The lunch menu is very heavy and looks like a dinner menu. For example, all lunch prices were similar to dinner prices. We are a flat bread pizza & mussels for apps. The sea bass was outstanding. All in all, a good place and I will likely return.

Luciano is the maestro of the kitchen. The quality of his dishes are impeccable. The menu has something for everyone and they have a very reasonable and well thought out wine list. Don't forget dessert!

This is a wonderful mission hills restaurant and the food is always delicious. They have signature cocktails that are very creative. The head chief and owner always makes it a point to introduce himself and make sure that everything is up to your standards. I highly recommend Red Door

Chef Luciano was wonderful as always at the Red Door. We enjoyed a couple cocktails and chef recommended some dishes, an incredible flatbread, filet, and the lobster ravioli. Everything was excellent. Only downside was our table was right next to the fire hydrant outside.

This restaurant has high quality food the ower/head chef even came out & spoke us before & after dinner to check on us. The service is top notch & the atmosphere was great.

The ricotta cheesecake is the best! It’s not too heavy as regular cheesecake, light on sugar level as well. With fresh cut strawberries and the sauce, it is just the best combination

We are lucky to count on the Red Door in our neighborhood; we can bring guests and getaway ourselves to dine there very easily! The food is really a "cut above:" fabulous entrees (Beef Wellington and other signature dishes) and, what I always order, very special pastas and appetizers. The staff are knowledgeable and so friendly. It is a favorite place.

We usually go to the Red Door every Sunday. It’s hard to believe but it keeps getting better and better. Chef Luciano is a magician with food! Anything and everything that he makes is outstanding! There is no better Chef in San Diego! The service is excellent! Phillip is the best! All of the staff is very friendly and helpful!

The food, wine, and staff are OUTSTANDING - as always. We are regulars and frequently refer friends here, and nobody is disappointed. While not the cheapest dinner out - it is truly the finest. Save room for the banana cream pie - it's out of this world.

We sat outside and the heaters kept us comfortable even though it was a little chilly outside. Our server did an awesome job and helped recommend a beer to my husband. He had the burger and I had a pasta dish and a Rose. We had an excellent time and even got to meet the chef.

The food was excellent. As we were waiting, the owner/Chef came out to greet us and began to make it a personal experience. He personally told us about the restaurant, how he started it I hoped that we enjoyed the dining experience. The service, the food and the atmosphere was absolutely exquisite. Jake, the person who waited on us made the experience the best I could possibly be.

I had always wanted to try it and thought I'd splurge. 25.00 for eggplant parm. Better be outrageously good. It would have been good for 12.00, but not so great for 25.00 with a small portion that was soggy and appeared to be microwaved as one side was scorched. I didn't make a fuss as I was dining with a friend who was enjoying his venison and risotto. We also had the Brussel sprouts which were very good.

What a fabulous experience! From the moment we were seated, we were treated to a special event. Our server plus the owner/chef Luciano were so great at explaining the dishes and providing great recommendations. We had the burrata and beets appetizer that was perfect followed by the surf and turf special of wild alaskan salmon and venison which was amazing. Finished with one of the best desserts I've had in years! Can't wait to go back.
