We also feature delicious and unique ingredients from around the world. Chef/Owner Luciano Cibelli shops daily, personally selecting every item we serve. He bakes fresh breads, rolls, desserts and all of the pasta in house (including a special Gluten Free Bucatini) and he develops his menus in rhythm with the seasonal San Diego harvest. Excellent dinner ! Best mussels I ever tasted . Everything was perfect. Service was great ! The Lobster raviolis amazing . The chef owner came by our table and to make sure we were happy with our meal. Then returned again when he found out it was my nephews birthday and sent him homemade truffles for a complimentary birthday desert with candle and beautifully presented !! I definitely will be back. I highly recommend this restaurant!

PHENOMENAL food and delightful customer service. The chef/owner also came out and chatted with us for a few minutes. Try the flatbread! Unreal. We will definitely be back soon.

Loved the ambience of the restaurant. From the set up to the decor, everything was perfectly arranged. The staff was amazing. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door, and were well taken care of throughout the entire evening. We were even graced with a visit from the chef. The food was amazing and the dishes were quite filling.

The Red Door is such a gem. It was the highlight of our vacation in San Diego. The owner/chef makes a point to visit every table and introduce himself and give insight into the menu if you have questions. We started our meal with the clams. Delicious. Dipping the foccacia bread in the broth was so good. We ordered the mushroom risotto and lobster ravioli. Both amazing. Great portion sizes, had plenty of leftovers. Amazing ambience. Perfect for a date night.

Sat outside due to Covid. Very attentive service. The "special" was recommended to portion was obnoxiously large and it was not discussed. The price was high but that was divulged.
It just seemed the portion could be more reasonable and therefore the price could have also been adjusted to more reasonable.

I just finished a real estate meeting and was in the nearby area. And, felt I deserved a good meal, last night. I ordered an Italian Chardonnay wine and the flatbread with homemade sausage. The flatbread they make at the Red Door is always delicious. I really enjoyed the meal and the great service.

It had been a while since we ate here (pre-covid) and during dinner, we wondered why. This place is a gem. Food is amazing, wine list is great and the ambience even during covid is wonderful. Cozy, comfy. Outdoor seating is available but we chose to sit inside and felt very safe, not exposed. We started with the white bean soup and house made burrata with beets...o.m.g. The soup was so delicious I got an order to go. My hubs had the short ribs/polenta and I had the daily catch of sea bass with root veggies. Portions were perfect and the flavors incredible. We will def not wait so long before our next visit. Thank you Chef!

My go to restaurant because I know I will never be disappointed. Each dish is incredibly flavorful. We started with the mussels, which were perfectly prepared and complimented by the rich broth and homemade focaccia. Our entrée was the ribeye – beyond words, probably the best ribeye I have ever had. It is clear the chef/owner only purchases the highest quality ingredients.

We booked a reservation on the fly— going through kitchen renovations and wanted warm food in a nice atmosphere. Red Door did not disappoint. Foremost, the restaurant is doing a great job at observing COVID precautions. Service was great— attentive but not hovering. The Chef kept making rounds— and certainly made us feel incredibly welcomed and special. We had the Brussels sprout appetizer, followed by the chicken and a plate of truffled risotto. Everything was exceptional. We splurged on dessert— spumoni and banana creme tart. Both were stupendous. We had plenty for leftovers. Truly a great dinner. Terrific neighborhood spot which is worth a drive.

We sat outside, curbside, with heaters so we were very comfortable, lots to look at being on the street. Our meal was excellent, I highly recommend the Brussel sprouts and the Kale Caesar w/naan-great twist on the classic! My husband had fresh catch with grilled vegetables and pesto and I had the Bolognese. Both were perfect. Definitely not your average Italian restaurant and our servers we’re wonderful !

Luciano is the Pavarotti of San Diego Italian Comfort food. Exceptional food in a quiet intimate setting in Mission Hills. Convenient to the airport. He is on premises and speaks with the diners. Very nice portions and great flavors. I had a 48 day in house dry aged ribeye with a side of pasta. Veal meatballs as an appetizer, and the farm to fork warm vegetable salad. All absolutely amazing. The chef was willing to create the pasta side at my request rather than a potato dish. Moderately priced wine list, excellent service, and superb food. A must.visit.

Lovely evening and great food. The owner and chef met us at the front door, came to our table to explain the specials and menu, and my husband had the seafood squid ink pasta and I had the osso buco. Both were fantastic and the risotto that came with my lamb shank had a hint of rosemary and was probably the best I ever had. You must try this place!

The food was absolutely amazing. The drinks were good, and it was a great environment. We had the beef Wellington, short ribs, nachos, and Brussels sprouts; all were perfect. The Beef Wellington was out of this world. The chef came out and greeted everyone individually, it was an awesome experience. We came for our anniversary, and we think this may be our new go to for special occasions.

The food is more on the expensive side but it was soo good! We got the special which was a truffle papradelle and it was amazing. Pricey but you are paying for some quality ingredients from Italy. The chef and the server were very nice, and attentive to our group. It was overall a really good spot, and will recommend to any friends!
