The Red Door
This place is a gem with a great brunch menu.
The staff was so nice and helpful and the food was amazing! Ordered the biscuits and jammies and lox for staters and egg Benedict and omelette of the day for brunch.
Fabulous food. Energetic And Attentive Chef. Highly recommend the specials but everything is top notch. Wine list is reasonably priced and Chef Luciano personally picks the wines. Go.
We’re seated right away but server was a bit slow. Very good food. Cocktails also very good. Noise level in the restaurant is a bit over the top making conversation a challenge. Chef/Owner personally makes the rounds to the tables- nice touch. The bri was amazing. Their old fashion cocktail “the Wellington” is very good. Lobster ravioli and lasagna were delicious. Will return.
Great Friday evening dinner at the Red Door, on our way home from the airport. Food was excellent, menu has enough choices but not overwhelming. Service was spot on - friendly, lots of suggestions, our table twice visited by the owner/chef.
The food was very good. The farm to table vegetables were perfect and the sea bass special that night was very good.
We always enjoy our meals here. Luciano works very hard to present a great menu.
Food is fresh, delicious and Italian. What could be better! Excellent service! The only negative I have is that it’s quite noisy. But looking forward to returning.
What a find, charismatic charming chef, who visits tables and explains his nightly creative menu...
We experienced both lunch ( quiet lunchtime group) and dinner (buzzing energetic friendly)...
Highly recommend you try The Red Door, like us you will return......
We both thought the fish special entree was possibly the best fish we have ever had. Ever. That’s nuts. We’ve been dining for 40 + years.
We we amazed
A friend and I just wanted to try something new before heading to the theater. Everything was wonderful.
Wonderful!! The food was delicious, the service outstanding and the atmosphere everything we could hope for.
What an amazing experience! We were greeted by the owner at the door, he checked on us several times. Staff was appropriately attentive, food was outstanding. We’ll definitely come again!
The food was amazing! The building was very comfy and had a home like feel. The chef, who came out to talk with his guests, was friendly and nice. I will be coming here again throughout my stay in San Diego!
Great food, great chef, great atmosphere and fair pricing
Always delicious and nightly specials keep the experience fresh with great seasonal and unique dishes. Chef Luciano is always gracious, warm, and welcoming. The pride and passion he has for his menu is reflected by your tastebuds. A wonderful atmodphere with very personalized service.
Took my family out to celebrate a special occasion. The service was incredible and our hostess was extremely kind and very attentive. Food was excellent and the entire atmosphere of the restaurant was comforting and intimate. We loved having Chef Luciano converse with us, as it made the meal very personable. We look forward to our next experience here.
Went to celebrate a birthday. Had a wonderful time. Food was delicious from start to finish. Service was great. Chef came out and talked to us. Very enjoyable.
Love this place, service is outstanding and the Chef always comes around to make sure everything was done right. Ask him for a wine recommendation? You’ll have a glass in front of you in 30s. Delicious!
The shaved brussel sprout salad and orchiette pasta were fantastic! We came from LA and will come back for sure.
Authentic Italian food with delicious and creative dishes, great wines, attentively and very friendly waiters and a charming Italian chef Luciano - that’s the Red Door. We always enjoy the nice and cozy atmosphere and are so happy that this fabulous restaurant is in our neighborhood. And for those who love good live music and just a small dinner or an appetizer- there is a bar right next to the Red Door!
Love the ambiance and food. The owner/chef personally went around the restaurant and talked to all the customers. Great food.! I had the vegan couscous and my husband has the special homemade tortellini. A must in Mission Hills!
Loved the fact the owner, Chef Luciano, took the time out to come and meet his customers. The food was cooked to perfection and the service was outstanding. I would definitely return and recommend this cute little restaurant.
I had the beef Wellington w/ seasoned veggies- the meal was cooked to absolute perfection....the steak was like butter and the pastry was flaky and moist.
My friend had the mushroom risotto w/ fresh truffles....the flavors were so intense and delicious. Truly perfect in taste and texture.
Thank you for an amazing meal!
Very intimate experience! Been to the Red Door before but wanted to take my boyfriend. The chef came out and introduced himself and thanked us for choosing his restaurant. We both had the short rib which was very good. Definitely will be back!
Great food, And love that chef Luciano comes out to greet people during the evening. He talked us in to trying the fresh truffle risotto, and we were glad we did. The beef Wellington here is one of our favorite dishes.
Sensational! The Red Door does not disappoint. Chef/owner Luciano’s crew provides exceptional service which is matched by the fabulous cuisine. Great menu!
Great service, delicious food, high end menu with reasonable prices, seasonal local specials menu and a chef who interacts with all the guests. This place is a hidden gem.
Chef continues to create a fresh farm to table selection. The Holiday menu was fantastic and in my case TV he filet mignon was special

A really wonderful place for Christmas family lunch. Mix of ages and tastes, but everyone was happy. The service was excellent. The food EXTREMELY good. Not too loud which was one our requirements.
Felt like we were in a brewery...too noisy and had difficulty hearing our guests. It will be a long time before we return.
Had a wonderful dinner last night. Lobster ravioli, orecchiette and seafood fettuccine were quite tasty. Host was generous with his time as he stopped by to chat.
5 star service
5 star food
5 star everything!!
We had a lovely evening. Our server Philip was absolutely outstanding! The owner and Chef Luciano came out and spoke to us for quite a while and added that special touch of hospitality! The two entrées we enjoyed were Red snapper Mediterranean style and Beef Wellington. Both entrées were over the top amazing!
Reservations for a party of sever for lunch. Another wonderful meal; we had several "special requests" and all were cheerfully fulfilled. As usual, Tony did an excellent job. This place is a real gem with great service, and outstanding food.
This is must visit restaurant.
Luciano is a hands on creative chef who makes sure your visit is up to your expectation.
His offerings are fresh, innovative, and his specials hit the spot.
We have been many times, and taken friends and family and all seem happy and satisfied.
Last night we had a delicious cheese offering (off the menu) with a fresh white truffle pasta and the perfect wine a 2013 Barbera.
We will be back!
Incredible food! Exquisite Italian at a very reasonable price. Good wine list. Rare to have a chef show up at your table but it happened here. The special pappardelle pasta with roasted mushrooms and white truffles was a BARGAIN at $40! Beets with barrata to die for. GO EAT AT THE RED DOOR
Not sure why but the cinnamon roll was out at 10:30 then they were out of cheddar for the egg orders.
