Outstanding! The friendly staff and a visit from the owner made our dinner experience very enjoyable and the food was just perfect. It was the last evening before the Covid closing and we will look forward to the reopening!
Truly a dining experience to remember! Greeted beautifully from the owner himself who made my partner & I feel very welcomed. He made sure we felt at home & made us knowledgeable about his dishes. Our server was amazing as well, in fact, recommended a special oyster dish for our appetizer & it was delicious! For our entrees, My woman got the “Farm-To-Fork” salad & I got the “Seafood Fettuccine” & both plates were amazing! We ate off each other’s plates by the way, we really enjoyed our meals! To top it off, the “cherry on top” to this beautiful experience was the dessert! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: “Sticky Toffee Pudding” the best dessert dish we have ever tasted! PERFECTION! Every bite was a moment to savor! Soooooo good! You have to try it! Overall, The Red Door is certainly a “must-go” to restaurant when in San Diego! We loved it!
Great food, great atmosphere and great service. The chef came to check on us at the end which was new. We will go back again.
Chef Luciano and his team never disappoint. From the minute you walk in the door until you leave for home, you are treated well. My friend and I met for dinner and shared the beer and burrata salad, butternut squash with brie, short rib tortellini and ricotta cheesecake. Everything was beautifully prepared and presented.
Thank you for a wonderful evening, Chef!
This was the third time I had been to The Red Door. Cute little place w top notch service and the owner comes and greats every table. This was the first time I was somewhat disappointed. I ordered the Lamb Shank. The lamb was delicious and tender. But the risotto was undercooked and chewy. Kinda surprising. The Seafood Linguine was delicious. I am not a squid ink pasta fan but this homemade pasta was pretty good. Seafood cooked perfect. My son ordered Beef Wellington. Perfectly cooked but lacked flavor he claimed. He was comparing it to Beef Wellington from Gordon Ramseys Hells Kitchen Las Vegas ha ha. But the Mac n Cheese is one of the best I have had. So much flavor in a simple dish.
I recommend the Red Door. Impeccable service and good food.
Recently had dinner at The Red Door for my birthday. The staff was extremely accommodating of our group, especially considering the current COVID situation.
They have a fantastic wine menu! I’m a HUGE fan of local, Central California Coast wines and they carry some great labels! They’re priced well, so go ahead - get the bottle. They also have a great list of “old world” wines if you’re feeling more traditional.
Worst part about the food was having to decide what to order because it ALL looked good!!
We started with the bacon & Brussels, Brie & butternut and the beets & burrata (yes, I know it ALL starts with B). We should have done two orders of the Brussels and bacon, but other than that, everything was great.
I ordered the beef short ribs with polenta and was so happy with my choice. The beef was so tender, no knife needed and both the beef and the polenta had so much flavor. My boyfriend ordered the gnocchi, which he also highly recommends. Their special that night was risotto with truffle oil and filet mug on tips, so we ordered one of those for the table. OMG, I’m literally salivating just think g about that. The risotto was cooked to perfection and there was actually A LOT of filet mixed in. The flavors were very well-balanced and not overly salted like a lot of risotto.
We got a few orders of the sticky pudding and then a few espresso martinis. All were delicious and the perfect way to wind down the night.
I absolutely cannot wait to go back and enjoy another meal at The Red Door.
The service was impeccable and the owner was admirable.
Very inviting , excellent food , good wine and the service was great.
Wonderful dining out experience to celebrate a 15th anniversary. First time dining out for dinner in months and everything was clean and up to standards per health protocols. The food was delicious and the service was exceptional. The chef and staff make you feel very welcome. I would definitely come back again to try other items.
Discovered this gem on Open Table. Chef Luciano has a menu that his second to none. Party of 4 we went all out with the Beef Wellington, sliced brussel sprouts salad, arugula salad with pear, pecan and gorgonzola and finally the mushroom risotto.
Enjoyed the butternut squash Brie appetizer to start the meal off.
Food was served timely, piping hot and could have not been more flavorful or delicious.
Will be back. A big thanks to Josie, our amazing server, and to Chef Luciano for stopping by the table periodically to ask for feedback and for making recommendations for dessert options and for discussing his upbringing and his journey from Milan, Italy to San Diego.
Very good food. Caring service.
1 of my absolute favorite restaurant. Everything about it is absolutely fantastic!
Chef Luciano personally greeted every table, and circled back to check food quality. This is a great example of a local entrepreneur working extremely hard to make hospitality work in the COVID-19 environment.
Hospitality has been hit hard, we have a ton of regulations to meet to keep guests and employees safe. Chef Luciano and his Team are doing that. Go visit them!
Love having Luciano come to visit our table.
Everything was delicious.
And we appreciate the care they are taking with COVID precautions.
The seafood linguini was delicious and the butternut squash with Brie appetizer is a MUST try!! The service was great and Luciano (the owner) was hospitable. The ambience is casual and fun with with a touch of coziness and great lighting.
Definite do over!!
This is an amazing restaurant with a fantastic staff and Chef owner. The chef personally came to our table and talked to us. My husband and I loved the food. I had the seafood pasta (Cioppino) and he had the special for today: Tritip. We had the flatbread pesto with sausage for appetizer and banana creme pie for dessert. All dishes were yummy!!! Thank you Luciano and Staff 👍👍🙏🙏
Place is welcoming and people were pleasant. We order a bottle of red wine but it seems the wine is stored in a warm place because it was about 80 degrees. We told the server about the temperature of the wine so he brought an ice bucket, not ideal to cool the wine down. The food seems to be of good quality but all of our dishes were lukewarm.
The value of the dishes was slightly overpriced which could have been Perceived as good if the food would have been hot.
I do not think I would return.
If you are in San Diego, you must go here. Amazing food.
The salmon was excellent and the lamb was absolutely spectacular! Best lamb I've ever had.
Wonderful food, great service, intimate ambiance with safe distancing.
The Red Door is always outstanding!! Chef Luciano and his staff always make you feel welcome and comfortable. We have tried many things on the menu and it’s hard to pick a favorite because they are all so delicious! I can name the best desert in San Diego, it’s the banana cream pie from the Red Door!
My family went To The Red Door to celebrate several happy occasions. My husband chose it because it serves beef Wellington—his favorite dish. The place did not disappoint. Food and service were excellent, and the chef/owner came out to talk to us. We would reserve this for special occasions because of the price, but we thoroughly enjoyed!
This place is one of the best places we have had the pleasure of dining in San Diego. Total gem. We strongly recommend this lovely spot.
This restaurant continues to be one of our favorites. The food is always consistently good and the chef/owner is always friendly and greets every table with a smile. The service is always top notch. I highly recommend checking this place out next time you want a nice meal out.
Everything was so wonderful, we come here very often, one of my favorite places in San Diego. Food was great and staff was amazing.
excellent food and service, never disappoints. very creative and everchanging menu.
We went one of the first weekends it was open during COVID. The restaurant was clean, not too full & the staff was great. The Chef came out, was friendly & appreciative of our being in the restaurant. It was great!
Is and amazing place to have dinner every night!!!! The food is full of flavor and you can tell the ingredients are fresh. The service is on point and the new requirements for the social distance and everything else is great; we even have the chance to meet Chef Luciano he was so attempt to came to our table and ask how was everything and we have a very nice chat with him; we definitely are coming back to The Red Door!!!! And you have to try it
Quiet. Social Distancing. Great service. Owner greeted us which was a nice touch for a very nice experience. Amazing food. Yummy cocktails. Just a little pricey but worth it for the quality of the food.
Food was amazing
Wonderful, fresh, farm to table. Get the scallops.
Amazing spot right on Washington (Mission Hills) with only 20-25 tables in both dinning rooms. Chef Luciano greets every table and is constantly making sure everything is perfect. The food is amazing and always fresh farm to table. Full bar with great cocktails and wine. One of the best restaurants in San Diego, I could go here every week.
Excellent meal! Highly recommend.
Food was spectacular. Great choices for vegetarians. Service was superb.
6 out of 5 stars!!! Visit this place ASAP
Great food...great service. They seem to care about your experience.
We had Meat MAC & Che, Beets & Burrata for appetizers. The apps were great portions and delicious. We had seafood fettuccini and papperdelle Bolognese. All the food was great, chef came out to check on us and our server Josie was fantastic. She kept the wine flowing and was very attentive- I will definitely go back.
Our last dinner out before the pandemic shutdown and our first dinner out after the reopening of restaurants. Our favorite neighborhood restaurant for food, ambiance and service, they were well prepared with tables at safe distances, masks in use, cutlery sanitized and wrapped, and other safe handling practices. All this while still making everyone feel welcomed and serving impeccable, fresh food. As always Chef Luciano greets each table personally to connect with diners. Can't wait to return again!
