The reputation of The Porter's House was that it was upscale, the food was delicious no matter what you chose, and the service was outstanding. I was expecting out of town guests and wanted to treat them to a special evening. I called ahead to find out if there was a dress code and was told there was not a specific dress code but probably business casual. We took that as long pants or skirts and nice shirt. Our guests were from Florida and always wear shorts, but they made a point of bringing long pants. We all dressed nicely because we were going to "a very nice place." I set up an OpenTable account so that we could make a reservation. When we arrived, right on time, we used the valet service (which was outstanding) for parking. When we entered the restaurant, it was almost empty but we were given a table up against the wall in a corner. I was going to ask that we be moved, but my guests said we didn't need to do that. We should have requested the move as we would have been more comfortable. We ordered drinks, appetizers, and our food. While we waited between courses, my guests could not help but notice that a whole group of loud young people wearing very casual shorts and shirts stood near our table laughing and talking loudly. They finally sat down at a table. Our food arrived and it was not that special. The dessert was very good. The servers were excellent. We laughed about how we thought we were going for a special dinner. I was disappointed and will not return to nor recommend The Porter's House.

Overall experience was amazing the reservation was easy to make and when arriving to the restaurant all the staff was super friendly and hospitable. Our server was amazing he made it feel like we were guests in his own home and took care of us just like family. The food was delicious and came exactly as expected from a restaurant of this status. This was the best anniversary diner I could have asked for. Will absolutely be back again.

We enjoyed our time a Porters House. We sat at the bar which is our preferred choice. We opted for salads and appetizers for dinner. Frankly the last few times we have been there for steaks they have been terrible. Our choices last night were great as was our wine bottle selection. We would recommend Porters House just not for their steaks!!

Shrimp cocktail served on a plate with some sauce. not very big. Shrimp cocktail needs improvement. Filet was somewhat dry. Prime rib sandwich was excellent.

Ordered a ribeye steak cooked medium (hot pink center per the restaurants menu), it came out well done (grey). I let them know and they offered to cook a new one - the second one came out in 5 mins, they asked me to slice it open down the middle and I did, it was purplish red, they said that looks undercooked and took it back, came out with a third steak and they asked me to cut that open and it was light pink/grey and I just said that’s fine - my family was done eating so didn’t want to wait any longer but certainly a disappointing experience to have on Father’s Day at a steakhouse. Will not be returning.

Our server was very friendly and attentive, the person bringing out the food got it wrong every course, the water refills were dizzying - they definitely earned their tips. Please just leave the pitchers on the table or get larger glasses.. I love a good water refill but every 5 seconds was too much. The steak was delicious and everything else was fair. Not good, not bad. We had Sausage board (burnt bread-not wood fired but BURNT), Shrimp Cocktail, the Tuna and the crab cake apps, all fair - none tasty or particularly outstanding about any of them. Mains included Steak Frittes, the Pasta and Filets. Steaks were delicious. Desserts were the Carrot Cake, Chocolate Cake, Oreo Cheesecake and Brownie Sundae. All good, Brownie was a standout. The sides were sharable sizes. Great ambience and you could see that others appreciated an "upscale" restaurant among the fast food joints. We will not be back. It did not wow us for the price. There are plenty of better steak places in Charlotte with a little more of a drive.

Another one of our favorite restaurants. We like to sit at the high top tables in the bar area. Nelson took great care of us! He makes the best Four Roses Manhattan! We always start with the mussels and they are a hit every time. All of the staff are friendly, and Charlene is our favorite!
