The Pit Authentic BBQ
Everything was excellent and will definitely return
Best bbq I’ve had
We had an awesome time the shared service was great with the exception of one of the three servers. We had Pat, Adam and I believe her name was Jessica. The main reason I don’t know the last servers name is because, while she came to our table several times near the end, she never introduced herself, she took it upon herself to begin clearing off our table before we were completely done or even ready to leave. This presents a major problem with any restaurant and frankly is something I wouldn’t expect from a restaurant with such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. My fiancé and I hadn’t eaten at The Pit in years we were both looking forward to having great food, amazing drinks and an overall awesome time. We got all of that, especially with the drinks(amazing and much needed at the end of a long week). The thing that made us both uncomfortable and feel as though we were unwanted guest or as if we had overstayed our welcome is the fact that our table was cleaned while we were still seated and still had our food out, a whole hour and a half before the restaurant was scheduled to close. Feeling rushed at any restaurant honestly makes you not want to return, every. I’m not sure when we will return to The Pit, but it is our sincere hope that this discomfort that we felt never occurs again.
The beef brisket, brussel sprouts, sweet potato fries, and mac'n'cheese are phenomenal!!
Great BBQ and good sized portions. Service is excellent.
The food and service was amazing!!!
Excellent food and service!! The ribs, pulled pork and fried chicken were outstanding!!
Terrific food and service. The Pit should be a destination for Raleigh BBQ lovers.
My brisket was all fat and the sweet potato fries were not crispy. The only good thing were the hush puppies which could have also be warm!
We've been here SEVERAL times and every time the food, service and ambiance have been outstanding. Our visit in 2/29 however, was more than disappointing. The noise level was almost unbearable, the service was incredibly slow (15 minutes to get a refill after requesting one), and the food brought outwas wrong for everyone at the table. Just an overall terrible experience. We'd gone to Raleigh for a NC Symphony performance and had been looking forward to our visit to The Pit but were, instead, terribly, terribly disappointed.
Food was awesome and Taylor was amazing
Overall a good experience. The staff was was pleasant and accommodating, the atmosphere was nice, and the prices were good. For me personally, I found the ribs a little on the dry side and came to realize that I am not a big fan of the vinegar based BBQ sauce. Assuming you are a fan of this style, I would recommend it.
We sat down at 6:15 and they had cleared our plates and given us our checks by 7pm. We felt so rushed and it was evident they wanted us to get up quickly. One of us was even still chewing when they started taking our plates away without asking. We stayed and enjoyed our time together, but the waitresses never checked on us once again. Never refilled our drinks, etc. We later realized they had a large party coming in who they sat beside of us and we assumed that was why, but we’ve never experienced rushed and terrible service like that before. Very disappointed.
I've been to The Pit many times and have always loved it. We came again this past weekend for lunch since we had out of town guests. I ordered the BBQ chicken platter. It was the smallest piece of chicken I have ever seen; one tiny leg and thigh! Everyone commented on it! My brother in law ordered the fried chicken. He had about 5 pieces!
The only thing good about it was I didn't overeat. I felt like I barely had anything.
The food was mediocre. The ribs were tasteless. The Brussels sprouts were limp and greasy and flavorless as well. I expected crispness! The coleslaw was good but the chucks were too large. The appetizer platter was the best thing and outside of the deviled eggs (too sweet) all were great. Service was okay. I was never asked if I wanted a 2nd drink and the waiter disappeared for a period of time when we needed him. All in all, we won’t be back. Overpriced and blah food.
Excellent fast service and food. Would go there again and again.
food excellent, service excellent, love the valet parking too.
Very disappointed with the beef brisket. So much gelatinous fat in the beef it was not appetizing at all. The onion straws were fine and the coleslaw good, but I’m in no hurry to return.
Idk what happened but the food was terrible and dry. It was almost as if they were expecting huge crowds so they cooked their food well in advance and then let it sit. It took probably 12 min to get our drinks and literally no more than 7-8 minutes before our dinner arrived after we put our order in. It was WAY too fast to have cooked 4 different types of meats and 6+ different sides. Too bad because we heard the Pit was one of the best in town. Maybe it was just an off day...
I am out of town and I had a taste for authentic BBQ. This was the best suggestion I have received in a very long time. I had the brisket and smoked wings and it was delicious! SN: I accidentally left my food in the hotel room once I checked out. Let me tell you, I had to call the hotel to make sure someone could get my food so I could have it...I was not wasting that fantastic food. Awesome job! I will be back
It's always a wonderful experience here. The food is delicious and the entire staff is professional and friendly.
Atmosphere is nice, but food is mediocre. Our party ordered all different meats- all of them were dry. Mac and cheese very good.
Exceptional food with outstanding service at a great value.
My brisket was too salty to eat and the waitress response was “everybody’s been complaining about the salty brisket” andI ordered fried okra and I had to remind the waitress twice that I didn’t have it. I finally got it half way through the meal She only took $5 off my double combo bill. The food there is too expensive to get it wrong! Very disappointed on Valentine’s night.
It was cold in the restaurant. The staff was friendly but our server did not check on us like she should have. The servers in our area were nice and the wait was not bad.
Food as always was delicious! The servers were very attentive and friendly.
However the restaurant was a bit cold and we unfortunately ate in our coats.
Generous portions. Responsive waitstaff. Great ambiance and flavor.
Great food, huge portions
Food was really good! Will go back again!
It was absolutely fantastic! Great food, great service!
Great BBQ. The chopped pork shoulder and Carolina ribs are the must haves. The Brisket is good but not the best I ever had. Alk the sides are amazing and dont leave without trying the home made hand pie. To die for.
My only issue was with the service. We only received one refill the entire time we were eating, and there were no glasses brought out for beer. We were never checked on.
I'm not sure. The food was good, average but I was expecting something really exceptional because of all of the top reviews.
The food and atmosphere was great. Staff were very nice and helpful. My wife and I enjoyed it.
The restaurant overall is a relaxing and comfortable place to have dinner. The sides that came with the entree were amazing, however the chopped bbq and bbq chicken were very dry. I have enjoyed much better meat choices at other establishments. I would go back to this restaurant again, but I would not order a meat entree.
Definitely disappointing. I come here every time I’m in town. The brisket was really fatty and the service was very slow.
I had a pretty high expectation going in, and unfortunately it wasn't met. Our server seemed annoyed to even be working so that didn't help. All the items I got just weren't up to par. I was surprised. The pork bbq was soaked in sauce (very wet and dense), and the sweet potato casserole was so airy, I thought I was eating whip cream.
This is an awesome restaurant. The food and service was great. The bourbon icecream is awesome.
Such a great place to take our friends from out of town. Love to show off the history and traditions of barbecue. The collards and the brisket are worth writing home about!
