   Great food— second time there in past two weeks. Large portions of food cooked great. Servers have been very good and attentive. Love the sweet tea— my favorite wine!! Sweet potato casserole with nuts and marsmellons is terrific! Parking situation needs to be addressed. Restaurant should provide free parking— stamp ticket or some method of doing it.

   I took 6 friends to The Pit after a long day of business meetings yesterday and it was GREAT! Yes, folks were lined up to the door. Yes, every table was full. Yes, the wait staff was stretched to the limit. Shucks, even the nice lady managing reservations bussed a few days and delivered a few meals but ... WOW! ... it was a great night and we will be back often! Thank The Pit for impressing my friends!

    Was better when it first opened. Quality and portions lacking. This picture is from my visit last year getting qtr dark which was tiny! I got the catfish and sliders which the turkey and pork were dry. Side portions were very tiny scoop of mac and cheese and Brunswick stew too

    I had an Open Table reservation, but when I arrived, I was told that there was no room in the main dining room where I had made my reservation and that I would need to sit at a high-top table with my blind friend. The waitress in the bar was attentive at first but rapidly become overwhelmed. It looked like there was a huge party that arrived all at once and they did not have the staff to handle everyone. The food was excellent but not getting the table I reserved and mediocre service will probably deter me from going back anytime soon.

    We made a reservation because one of the guests had a broken foot and was on crutches. When we arrived we were told the wait was 40 minutes, I explained we had reservations and I was told our staff is too busy you’ll have to wait 40 minutes. Waiting 40 minutes with reservations is a little ridiculous. There was also no where to sit while we waited. We finally talked them into letting us sit at a table without being served while we waited since there were a lot of tables open. Despite the reservation faux pas the food was delicious and we enjoyed our meal and service

    For a landmark establishment, the pulled pork bbq was disappointing for the price. The quality of meat on the plate was poor. Too much tough burnt sections in my serving. Since we were the first customers, one would have thought we wouldn’t have been served the remnants.

    This is my 3rd time here, so I’m finally going to make a review - I make better brisket at home, the pulled pork had no flavor except for the burnt black parts that tasted like ash, nothing special about the fried chicken either. Even the biscuits were hard. Really disappointing. It’s just a great location.

    Food was great as always. Portion sizes were more than plentiful. They still make the only banana pudding I have ever had that compares to my grandmother's (although I had to get it to go since I couldn't hold it immediately after my meal). Would definitely advise making reservations.

    Meals cost on avg. $22-$27 and is worth every penny. I ordered the ribs & fried chicken combo with 2 sides. Very flavorful, moist & tender. Others in our party ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs & one ordered the item with 3-4 meats. All of us took home leftovers!! Definitely visit when in Raleigh. The Durham location is now an event center.

    The food was very good. Service was slow. The server indicated after taking our drink order, that they were out of the beer we ordered. We switched to cider and the server came back again to say they were out of cider. After the meal, the server brought cider! Really didn’t want it by then.

    Love this place. In town for conference once again. Visited 5 years ago pre covid and the BLT sandwich was sooo good so i had to come back. Sadly i did not see it on the menu this time I revisited maybe i didnt look hard enough. I had a reservation and the hostess seated with 10 mins of walking in 5mins before my reservation time. And i might add they were busy! I asked for a quite table for 1 out of the way and enjoyed myself. I tried the two combo ( bbq chicken and fried chicken dark meat. OMG it was sooo good too! Honestly my favorite part was the green beans side. Probably the best part of my plate and everything on the plate was delicious. Always will recommend. THANKS to the waitstaff at the The Pit and chefs kiss to the cooks.

    My husband and I ate at The Pit for Saturday lunch. I ordered the combo with BBQ chicken and ribs which were tender with a nice smoked flavor. I also ordered the collards which reminded me of my grandmothers and the potato salad was delicious. The biscuits were the best I have ever had. Service was friendly and quick.

    Food is always wonderful, but service is always terribly slow. For example, took 10 minutes to be greeted by a server to begin our experience, and after bringing us to-go boxes, took the server another 10-15 minutes to bring our checks.

    We used to live in Raleigh 12 years ago and the pit master was there. Amazing experience many times Decided to relive that a bit when in town and it was quite disappointing Food was average - it has gone down hill Wish I had better feedback
