The Pit Authentic BBQ
Friday - Saturday 11:00 am - 11:00 pm
Sunday 11:00 am - 10:00 pm
The food was dry and tasteless. The ambiance was nice and the service was good but we were disappointed in the food.
My husband ordered the brisket. It was very dry. We went on a Sunday night and not sure if maybe it was just leftover from the weekend. I ordered the ribs. I have order those before and they were great. this time they were also dry. Our waitress was wonderful. The hostess was very friendly. The food was just not good that night.
A friend came to visit for the day from Atlanta and wanted BBQ. This is my go to place for BBQ and they didn’t disappoint. Good GF options without missing out on the experience.
The Brisket was bad, I should have sent it back. I was really disappointed, I’ve eaten here before and it was good.
Our service and food was excellent but one of your host was really rude. We saw her speak down to many customers about the wait and roll her eyes a few times. First impressions always last!
Good restaurant if you like BBQ and meat. DELICIOUS pimento cheese balls! They even have some options if you are not a meat eater.
I gave my review privately due to its content.
Very underwhelmed. Had great experience at Durham location & expected the same in Raleigh. Staff was rude & unwelcoming from hostess to barstaff to waiters. Embarrassed as we had business guests in from Switzerland & trying to give them local NC experience. Probably felt like they jogged across the border to France.
Wow, this place is expensive for what you get. First, the BBQ plate with 2 sides was $15. I expected something extraordinary for that price, but it was just ordinary food that was only lukewarm. Second, it seemed their air conditioning was not working - at least not well. We were really uncomfortable. Third, we asked for more hushpuppies and never got them. I won't be returning to The Pit.
Outstanding service. Efficient and friendly. Food was very tasty. I personally would appreciate another type of BBQ, NOT dedicated to Eastern NC style.
Didn't care for the meat loaf. Had to return it.
We liked the restaurant and the area of downtown Raleigh very much. Food was as good as expected and server went out of his way to be helpful.
Despite not having the tableside carving options, which is the one thing I was looking forward to, I still enjoyed my experience. The ribs were great and fell right off the bone, as they should. The drinks were great and there were enough servers to get whatever I needed. I will definitely be back as this is a great place to bring anyone and everyone.
Terrible food. BBQ brisket was thinly cut, 50% fat and rubbery. Undercooked chicken. Service was good, friendly staff.
As always, great food. Went with an out of town family and everyone's meal was good.
We had the brisket which was delicious and the garlic green beans were so good! Nice, friendly staff and great food. Our kids loved it too!
Fantastic food and service- Victoria was awesome!
Delicious comfort food. BBQ brisket one of the best I ever tried. Loved the fried chicken. You pay for two pieces and one of them is a tiny wing, didn’t like that. The service was very regular, the kind of service that you have to be paying attention constantly to ask them to come to your table. Very reasonable prices. Didn’t loved the baby back ribs. Not so tender not so much flavor.
Had to get some authentic southern BBQ while visiting the south, was v impressed
We arrived at 5pm for dinner. We are an upper middle age couple. The restaurant was 3/4 empty but the table we received was next to. A party of 12. 8 kids. Very loud. 2 people next to us finished and left. The waiters moved their table over to seat another party of 12. Meanwhile two other rooms were practically empty. Should have asked to move but our dinner had already arrived before the second part arrived so we ate fast and got the heck out of there.
Yikes! What happened to the service on Sunday? We were a party of 4 and had (2) servers that I could tell. One was great and the other one not so good. We had placed and order for an appetizer that was never entered. That's ok because as it turns out, we could not have eaten it all. My drink glass was bone dry before anyone even noticed and then it took 5 minutes to get a refill. You guys usually have second to none service but this time was a let down. On a high note, the food was amazing, as usual!!!!
Outstanding BBQ pulled pork, ribs and half chicken.
The food was great with size and taste! We also went next door to the barcade while we waited on our table.
Overall it was a good experience. The service was great. We had a number of staff taking care of us, and they each did great. One waitress recommended the Carolina ribs and she was right. I was disappointed with the baby backs. The bread, corn, mashed potatoes, and chopped turkey were good. I will return but won't have those ribs again.
Enjoyed our dinner! A bit noisy for comfortable convo but fun anyway. Only hitch is we requested a table for elderly and fat family members but we were shown to a booth. Quick accommodations were made so all good.
This is our first trip to Raleigh. I’m so glad we chose Pit Authentic for our first meal here. Yummmmeee. We were so happy. Good was delicious. And the service was great!
The food is always amazing at the Pit. The service this past Friday evening was horrible. I know they use a team wait staff per section. But, it took 15mins for someone to greet us at the table and take our drink order. Only 1 gentleman on our section team was quick, attentive, and friendly. Usually the wait staff is much better.
Outstanding Carolina BBQ! Cornbread is awesome, and when they said the fried chicken is the best in the area, that was not hyperbole. It was fantastic. Service is great with a lot of personality and they know their menu and beers. Can't wait to go back, and back, and back ;-)
We tried a new place because we had points from Open Table. This was a wonderful find! The food was fresh and well-prepared and the people were welcoming and helpful. The menu is pretty basic Southern fare but high quality ingredients and chef-made. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable. We will return soon.
I had a family member in town for one night and wanted to take him some place special. The table we were seating at had cold A/C blowing so hard that my hair was blowing in the wind. It took a few requests, but they finally shut it down. If they hadn’t, we would have left. It was that bad. After we were seated, it took the server 10+ minutes to take our drink order. The food wasn’t horrible, but nothing special. Also, they were out of a lot of their beer selections, which was frustrating. This was my second and last time there. There are so many great restaurants in Raleigh. Don’t waste your time with this one.
First time here, at the recommendation of local customers. Nice to have the valet, enjoyed the food and atmosphere. I’ll be back for sure!
The food was very good. It was very loud and we could not carry on table conversation. The service was great!!
Never thought I would find good Eastern NC barbeque in the big city, but these folks know how people in NC cook pig! This is the way we’ve cooked it since I was a boy (whole hog, smoked, pit cooked), and its nice to see a place makes BBQ more upscale.
They have all kinds of smoked meats, so if vinegar sauced pork is not your thing, have no fear, there is a sauce (sweet, hot , mild) and a meat (chicken—fried and grilled, brisket, meat loaf, even vegan options) for you. Veggies / sides list is long and plentiful. Cocktails and liquor selections are top notch. For desert, get a “homemade hand pie” (a fried turnover)...we had the peach, with caramel and ice cream. They even have complimentary valet parking.
If you love food, good atmosphere, and a great staff, you don’t have enough fingers and toes to count the reasons you should visit “The Pit” in Raleigh, NC. As a local North Carolinian and Garner native, EVERYBODY can find something to love about this place.
Babyback babyback babyback ribs. Falling off the bone, tender and delicious! We had a hankering for some ribs. First and only place that came to mind was the Pit. They did not disappoint. We had several people taking care of our table. The food comes out quite quickly. Everything was soooooooooooooo good. We actually ordered a full rack of the baby back ribs to split and decided to share the sides + an order of the cornbread. It was way too much food for us - but made for a great leftover lunch the next day. Overall, the service was excellent, the food was amazing. I didn't take any food photos- because I am all about the experience as I am having it and not about capturing it. That said, when the plates come out- they are mouth watering. If you haven't tried the Pit and like bbq definitely add this to your list of places to check out while in Raleigh.
Attentive and Friendly service! Went out for a girls night and I want to bring my family back!
We had a great time with great food. Very family friendly. The staff was very accommodating to our 6 month old and willing to add an extra guest at the last minute.
Our table service was top notch, I can’t praise it enough. The host was rude for no reason. Gave me sass about how she had already sat my reservation, which was not true. We were just a two top and arrived together. Maybe she misheard the name of one of the reservation but I don’t think I should have gotten any attitude bc of that. Host stand was not welcoming or accommodating. Also if the hosts are going to bicker with each other I would rather not have to watch on my night out.
The BBQ Pork (eastern style) and fried chicken were excellent.
Several comments from the table on the quality of the mixed drinks from the bar.
If you are older, be careful about over-eating all that meat. It is high in fat, and will keep you up at night. Not their fault, the meal was great!
Service was fantastic! The White Peach Sangria was pretty tasty. If you’re looking for the best BBQ in Raleigh this is not the place. Ordered the smoked prime rib and it was all fat and tough to cut. Everything was mediocre.
