About this restaurant

  • Innovative
  • Romantic
  • Vegetarian-friendly
Since opening in 2002 a decade ago, Head Chef Yogesh Datta has received considerable critical acclaim for his interpretation of 'Modern Indian' cuisine at The Painted Heron in Chelsea.

In 2013 The Painted Heron won "Best Indian Restaurant in the UK" and "Best Chef" Pat Chapman Good Curry Guide

Yogesh Datta joyously embraces seasonal produce and his side dishes of strawberry curry, English asparagus and broad bean curry are must-haves when in season.

Fish such as wild sea trout and cod come from Hastings boats; rabbit, squab pigeon, guinea fowl, duck and venison – meats often ignored by Indian restaurants – frequently appear too.

To the rear of the restaurant is an intimate cigar lounge-terrace, where guests can enjoy a pre or post-dinner drink with a selection of Cuban cigars from the restaurant’s purpose-built humidor

The staff were very friendly and the food was lovely Just check before you go whether they have a large group coming in whilst you will be there as they have visiting holiday groups If you go away from those groups it is very good

Having lived in India, I was staggered to find a restaurant so authentic in Cheyne Walk! Amazing food and lovely staff.

What an absolute find! We happened on this restaurant while visiting Chelsea. TPH is an elegant restaurant featuring a wonderful balance of mainstream dishes with a sophisticated twist. A perfect example is the samosa appetizer. Light and fluffy on the inside and delicately crisp on the outside. This would have been great on it’s on own but was served with a chickpea stew combining a wonderful blend of herbs and spices that made it one of the best things I’ve eaten in quite some time. The menu features rich, textured curries, perfectly tender meats, fresh seafood and veggie dishes served by a gracious husband and wife team who truly care about your dining experience. All this and not while not putting a big dent in your pocketbook. We will definitely be back.

It was a very slow service, not very friendly possible due to it being a set menu for valentine days. Have used this Resturant over the years I thought the food was good, but paper napkins laminate tables and poor service will probably this Resturant will be removed from our favourites list Sad!!!

The food was fabulous, the restaurant was quite quiet, but as we were 10 we brought our own ambiance. Service was courteous but not overly slick. They were very helpful accommodating my friend's special dietary requirement. I'll be back.
