First of all, the service. Clearly our waitress hadn't been trained at all by the management. She was really nice but had no idea what to do (for example, didn't ask if I wanted a drink whilst I was waiting for my mate, she took a plate away whilst one of us was still eating). I kind of felt for her - she came across as someone who knew she didn't know what to do and was kind of thrown in at the deep end. Management - figure it out. Second, the food. The chicken livers were fine but then most things are that are soaked in balsamic. My salmon wasn't just cooked, it was almost nuked. I ate it because I was hungry and with the OT discount it wasn't expensive and I was on a clock - another time I'd have sent it back for sure. I'm amazed this place has generally positive reviews. I really, really hope that there was a good reason why it was so bad because these things do happen - hopefully for any other OT diner it happened just to me and my mate as opposed to this being the regular level for this place.

This restaurant is conveniently located and easy to find. The atmosphere is relaxed and easy going. Menu is not extensive which is how I like it to be. Food is tasty, but will not set the world on fire. Service friendly and warm.

An after theatre meal that was very good quality and excellent value with the 50% Opentable offer. Service a little slow as noted by other diners in reviews, but no issue for us and pleasant staff. Also no hassle to vacate the table which is a bonus on a Saturday night, and pleasant ambience.

Nice food. Didn't try puddings as there was a limited option but starter and main was good. Staff all very friendly. Went there as close to Royal Albert Hall.

My family enjoyed afternoon tea at The Jam Cupboard as part of my wife's 60th birthday celebrations and before going to the Albert Hall for a concert. We were looked after royally and Greg, our waiter, was extremely attentive, making us feel welcome from the outset. Within a short while he told us that in view of the occasion, the restaurant would like to offer us a complimentary glass of prosecco, which was greatly appreciated by all five of us. The tea itself was perfect, with sandwiches (white and brown bread), scones with jam and cream, and then a selection of cakes and pastries, and outdid five people who enjoy their food! Try as we might, we could not finish everything that had been so perfectly and elegantly provided. I had discovered the Jam Cupboard by chance in a Google search - and I am delighted that I had. I would recommend it without hesitation.

We don't often go to concerts at the Royal Albert Hall but this was a special concert and we'd planned to stay overnight so a pre-event meal was important. On a Sunday parking is not difficult, provided you arrive early enough. The meal was booked in advance, through Open Table, and was a half-price offer on a la carte dishes. A useful guide to finding the Jam Cupboard came from the website and our only problem was that from number 59 to 61 Gloucester Road was not next door but past two apartment blocks. Fortunately the Rydges Hotel flag over the door was our sign. It was only 5.30 and we'd booked for 6.00. No difficulty: we ordered a glass of wine and settled down with the menu. All of it was tempting. Vegetarian family members would have liked the pumpkin and chestnut risotto, offered as starter or main, with an alternative main course of polenta, poached egg and Portobello mushroom, wilted spinach and truffle oil. I have to say we were tempted, but settled for salmon and smoked haddock fishcakes with rocket leaves and a tartare sauce. Our main course tastes diverged: confit leg of chicken with a butter bean roasted garlic and chorizo stew and wilted kale for one, slow roasted pork belly with braised red cabbage, apple compote, double pomme mousseline and red wine jus for the other. Service was by no means rushed, yet we had no trouble saving a reasonable amount our small glass of wine for both courses. It should be added, though, that without asking we were given a generous jug of iced water. The flavours were as good as the menu suggested, and the crackling on the pork was a delight. Dessert of winter spiced apple and berry crumble proving a bit too sweet for our tastes but, like the other courses, in generous quantity. Although I had made clear we were on a half-price offer there was question of special offer portions: it was full a la carte provision. Then came the bill: just under £40 for two, including £4 each for a glass of wine. Incredible value.

The food was of good quality and was a good portion size. We were very well catered to by the staff. We took advantage of two courses for half price, which made the experience worth the money. If this deal was not the case the food would be a bit too overpriced.

Good solid fare. Nothing amazing but fairly decent food. Starters were very good but I felt that the meal slipped down from there ending with dessert which was pretty ordinary with a limited choice. Ambience is a bit lacking but service was fine. Good value with TT offer but would not necessarily rush back.

We went for a meal here largely because of the 50% discount but had not realised that the restaurant was part of a South Kensington hotel and had all the ambience of one. The food was fine and we were well looked after but we were overall disappointed.

Went here with a large group before going to the Natural History Museum. They gave us a private room (we didn't even request it) and service/food were both excellent. Definitely recommend!
