My PA pre-booked a particularly quite table as I was entertaining a client and would be talking sensitive financial issues. Unfortunately, the table I had booked had been granted to somebody else which resulted in me not being able to discuss deal with the matters we had hoped. My PA made contact with the restaurant well in advance of my arrival to arrange for a good bottle of wine to be opened well in advance of my arrival to ensure it had time to breath. We had pre-lunch drinks and presented with the menu and wine list. I explained my PA had already arranged for a bottle of wine to be opened. Thirty minutes later, when at the table i was asked if I would like to order wine! I again explained the situation only to be told that they had no trace of the pre-order. After the meal I was informed that the email requesting the wine had been received and had been overlooked!
Following the meal we asked if we could retire to the American Bar for cocktails to be told that it was full and we must sit in the lounge area next to the restaurant. Despite this, I walked to the American bar and asked if they had room for two people and was told yes!!!
I have been coming to this restaurant for over ten years now and must say, sadly the standards have dropped.

We were really looking forward to coming and it didn’t disappoint. Plush without being flashy decor. Lots of round tables so few people have their backs to the restaurant. Menu traditional as you would expect superbly executed by very knowledgable staff. Broad in-depth wine list and delicious food, can’t wait to return
We were remembered by name even though we hadn’t been there for a year. The place is perfect, as is the hotel, in my opinion, in London.
I've been to the Game Bird before on a trip to London. I enjoyed the lunch on both occasions; the food is excellent, the service prompt and friendly, but unobtrusive, and the surroundings elegant.
Very high quality English fare. The Steak and Kidney
Pudding was exceptional as was the pigeon. Excellent service.
Comfortable restaurant Food snd Service as expected in this price category
Really enjoyed the classic food - dressed crab, chicken kiev, baked Alaska. Delicious.
We came not knowing what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised with the food! Everything was well-prepared and were tasty. Starting from the various array of oysters, followed by the salmons and finished with the mains. Overall, I will come back for more the next time in London
Really attentive staff and a really high quality Sunday lunch.
Go. Eat here, as often as you can.
The menu is exciting, the food is brilliant, the service is impeccable, and the ambiance is splendid.
At least one person at your table should order the eponymous dish, “The Game Bird.” The wood pigeon is astoundingly good. The grouse was also phenomenal. As an appetizer, you won’t be disappointed by the oysters Rockefeller.
Restaurant staff would benefit from Additional support
Great ambiance, broad menu
Staff attentive & my husband was especially impressed with his crepe Suzette cooked at our table
We celebrated with our twin boys and one of the boys girlfriend. Everything was fantastic!
Overall a lovely meal, with the benefit of the American bar before hand. The food was good to very good and the service exceptional. The only negative was that we seemed to be the only party which seemed strange.
Great tasting food, main menu has mainly fish and meat options but there is a vegetarian/vegan menu available too. Massive wine selection £45 to £500+, smoked fish prepared at the table, really good main course selection and possibly the highlight was Crepes Suzette prepared and served table-side. The service was excellent. A really good find and hope to return for a Sunday roast!
Once again superb second visit with four days. Excellent Sunday Roast excellent cut of meat.
Great table side service. Wonderful serving table side of Dover sole. Intimate setting.
When we arrived & were settled at our table, we were offered the champagne option with our afternoon tea. We were also given a cup of a green tea mixture to settle our digestion before we began to eat. The sandwiches were fresh & well filled. The scones & cakes were delicious & unusual. The restaurant had a very comfortable, unhurried feel to it. The staff were friendly & helpful but unobtrusive. We would definitely return again & recommend our experience to others.
I prefer not to write otherwise to many people and enjoy this hidden jem of a restaurant
On other note the manager show my oversea friends the cellar area they found it very interesting
and the visit was experience tops all other restaurants

It was a fun place to eat but leaves a lot to be desired. The American bar we went to before dinner was great fun. The restaurant has a sense of occasion which is great fun. But the food isn't that great sadly. My husband had the dressed crab and it was swimming in mayonnaise - he had to send it back. The smoked salmon was super. I had the chicken kiev which was a disappointment. My husband had a pie which was very decent. I wish they would top up the food and we could go more often because it was quite fun
Visited the American Bar first for cocktails before eating. Bartender very helpful in selecting drinks. Service was friendly and the food delicious - Lobster Mac and cheese - yum. So full up we didn’t make the dessert menu. Next time 😀
Great fan of Game bird Sunday lunch
However roast beef and Yorkshire pudding stone cold and gravy far too sharp tasting
Also issue with incorrect bill
However will return
The only negative thing about this restaurant is that it is quite small so that tables were near the bar which, fortunately was not very busy. The room is lovely and comfortable. The menu is varied and includes traditional English food as well as more modern selections. It even has a vegetarian menu. food is interesting , well-prepared, and attractively presented. The service was attentive and unobtrusive.
A great experience on our anniversary. Lovely people working there.
We really enjoyed the set lunch menu which delivered terrific value. My husband had the pork belly starter and a lovely spring vegetable risotto for main and I had the heritage carrot/ pesto/ cheese starter followed by a superb chicken dish. I wasn’t crazy about the flavour combination of the carrot starter, but everything else was top notch. The dining room is beautiful and the whole ambience is refined without being stuffy. I also really liked the artwork in the lobby and corridors. It felt like a real treat without breaking the bank.
I was recommended the restaurant by a colleague and will definitely be going back. Excellent food in a great venue with excellent service. Well worth requesting a tour of the wine cellar.
Outstanding food, service and atmosphere. Why haven’t I been before?
Lovely lunch with a colleague at the Game Bird. Very elegant and classy place to eat. Excellent service. Delicious food (salmon tartare perfect). Sensible price for this sort of place in St James's though not cheap! But worth it.
Always fabulous, one of my favourites in London.
A party of 6 went (4 French, a Norwegian and a Mancunian) for the "Sunday Roast" and it was truly exceptional. The wine and the service were equally good. The restaurant is beautiful and was a high point of our trip to London
Sunday roast with all the trimmings was delectable!
Terrible service, afternoon tea dull, we left half of it.
Excellent as always.
Special British lunch set with great ambience but dessert is a little disappointing
A fabulous Sunday lunch. In my opinion, the best that London has to offer. A beautiful old hotel doing it so right.
A delicious Sunday roast. The beef from the trolley was succulent, rare and flavourful. The only puddings weren't quite a delicious as the starters or main courses, but overall a very good meal.
A pleasant experience but not one we'd repeat. The ambiance is good, very traditional English and the food generally enjoyable but the meal was overpriced for what we had. Our daughter's rhubarb & custard desert was not nice at all. We'd have been better with the set menu but that was rather boring. The wine menu was a shock - £50 upwards. I kept thinking how much better we'd have been off at the Ritz round the corner!
What a wonderful place for tea - great sandwiches, scones and great cakes. The room is so relaxing comfortable and well decorated. The staff are a delight and so attentive
Very nice place and friendly stuffs. Lovely place for afternoon tea.
Lovely venue for a special occasion lunch. We were a party of 3, and had the special fixed price 3 course lunches which were very good. Apparently the wine list included some big numbers, but the lower priced bottle that we had was really lovely anyway.
