About this restaurant

  • Great for scenic views
  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
Situated in the Red Rocks country 17 miles southwest of Denver on Hwy 285, The Fort is a true replica of Bent's Fort, (1833-1849), the first American fur trade post in Colorado. The Cheyenne, Arapahoe, Kiowa and Pawnee traded and intermarried at Bent's Old Fort, creating an economic and peaceful exchange of cultures in an otherwise violent West. The Fort building is on the National Registry of Historic Places, and celebrates the many cultures that traded at Bent's Old Fort. Our menu features "New Foods of the Old West" including the best cuts of buffalo, elk and quail, grilled to perfection. There are vegetarian options inspired by American Indian recipes including Corn Beans and Squash, known as the Three Sacred Sisters. The wine list is awarded the Wine Spectator each year, and the nine dining rooms, with intimate seating, has a 350 seat capacity, with real adobe "beehive "fireplaces that burn wood in the winter and fall months. Romantic. Amazing views of the Valley and Mountains!

We go to the Fort once every five years maybe. Growing up nearby it's just some nostalgic moment that we look forward to, but it is not worth the cost, and not worth bringing out of towners to see. The environment and location is amazing, but the food is....not great. Especially considering the prices. Too bad, maybe the South Park guys can redo this one too?

The Fort was an amazing experience. It was my birthday brunch and I couldn't imagine a nicer time.

We were very pleased with the food options, the choices we selected, and the waitstaff. Thinking that The Fort might be like a silly tourist restaurant, we discovered it was NOT that. It was so much more upscale than we expected and such a lovely evening. We will return!

Great food and atmosphere. Bean dip appetizer was good but didn’t taste sausage. Loved the buffalo filet with garlic butter

We hadn’t been to the Fort in probably 20 years. We really enjoyed everything about the place. My wife had ostrich which they were offering back then along with other more exotic dishes. Not the same today. Thought the menu was much more limited and really mediocre. It’s now I’d best describe as tourist attraction food with very high prices. Service was ok but could have been better. One of my group ordered coffee and it was served barely lukewarm and the served had to have known that. Anyway, it’s probably one of those places that you need to go to but lower your expectations

It is a must experience if you live in Denver. Everything was excellent. It is pretty expensive, but I guess no worse than a lot of nice steakhouses.

The food is always amazing and the staff are very friendly. Drove from Indiana to Denver for my birthday and chose the Fort for dinner. Unfortunately, there was a really loud drunk group next to us and it was impossible to have a conversation with my spouse during the meal. The staff did their best with the noise but they, the group continued being extremely loud. Overall it was a good food experience. Maybe some place cozier for special occasion reservations.
