About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for scenic views
  • Charming
Situated in the Red Rocks country 17 miles southwest of Denver on Hwy 285, The Fort is a true replica of Bent's Fort, (1833-1849), the first American fur trade post in Colorado. The Cheyenne, Arapahoe, Kiowa and Pawnee traded and intermarried at Bent's Old Fort, creating an economic and peaceful exchange of cultures in an otherwise violent West. The Fort building is on the National Registry of Historic Places, and celebrates the many cultures that traded at Bent's Old Fort. Our menu features "New Foods of the Old West" including the best cuts of buffalo, elk and quail, grilled to perfection. There are vegetarian options inspired by American Indian recipes including Corn Beans and Squash, known as the Three Sacred Sisters. The wine list is awarded the Wine Spectator each year, and the nine dining rooms, with intimate seating, has a 350 seat capacity, with real adobe "beehive "fireplaces that burn wood in the winter and fall months. Romantic. Amazing views of the Valley and Mountains!

Outstanding food and service! We celebrated a birthday and it was so much fun to share dessert and wear the buffalo hat 🦬. This was a really special treat and the food was outstanding as recommended.

Highly recommend sitting outside. Views are incredible! Great cocktails and wine list. The meat was delicious- we all ordered medium rare and it came out more on the medium than rare aisle but still fantastic! Quail eggs for appetizer is a must. Will be back.

Came for a Red Rocks concert, decided to bring friends here to dinner. Four of our group grew up in Denver/Boulder area and used to come with our parents. So it was nostalgic. We had a patio table at the edge with a beautiful view. It was perfect weather with a clear sky! The duck, elk, bison, steak, stuffed peppers were all terrific!! Our server and co-server were really good too! It was a lovely, unrushed, truly delightful evening.

Came with family - visiting from Texas. Grew up in the area, and had been here years ago and it was great. Food quality was absolutely terrible. Akaushi $72 steak was worse than something you’d get from a bad chain. They haven’t updated anything - I’m all for nostalgia, but restaurants like this need to also ensure food quality. For an almost $700 meal (for 7 of us; 3 of whom were children under 12) I expect to at least not hate it… Super disappointing, given great memories from decades ago.

The Fort is a gem of a restaurant, if you’re looking for a gorgeous view and a menu that’s reminiscent of earlier times in Colorado, where wild game was a regular menu feature. My bison filet was perfectly cooked, well-seasoned, tasty and tender. Dessert was equally yummy, and the Huckleberry Lemonade cocktail was delicious. Where it falters is in sides. My potatoes were just okay. Vegetables didn’t appear to be fresh. Perhaps they were. Overall, the price felt high for the meal, but I’ve learned the Denver area is pricey, and the service and ambience made up for those side dishes. Thanks to Cammy and Ruth for being so attentive and kind.

I have been a hunter and have cooked wild game of all varieties my entire life. This is the best wild game I have ever eaten. I went there for a birthday and was blown away by the preparation and the ambiance of the meal. We got the started with the Buffalo empanadas with huckleberry vodka lemonade. For the main course she got the Buffalo filet mignon with house potatoes and seasonal vegetables(corn and peas), I got the game plate with house potatoes and Chile Mac N Cheese. I can’t recommend this place enough if you have any desire to try the best of what wild game cooking is about.

Did not like any appetizers, the steak was good but wish they had more variety of veggies. It was ok but would not eat there again. Trying to hard to be different.
