About The Fort
Situated in the Red Rocks country 17 miles southwest of Denver on Hwy 285, The Fort is a true replica of Bent's Fort, the first American community west of the Missississippi & rendezvous of Kit Carson & other "Mountain Men". The nine dining rooms, seating 350, are white plastered over adobe. Unusual but hearty dishes, typical of the early West, are provided from open grills. Waugh!

The Fort Ratings and Reviews
The portions were good sized. For the price I would have expected more flavor for the cost of my steak. The ambiance was great and the restaurant was quiet. The service was impeccable. The sides were not what I would have expected for a restaurant of this caliber. Would go back for a special occasion or desert.
THIS WAS THE SECOND YEAR WE VISITED ON VALENTINE'S DAY, ON BOTH OCCASIONS WE ENJOY THE SPECIAL TOUCHES TO MARK THE DAY, IT WAS ALSO OUR 11TH ANNIVERSARY....SECOND MARRIAGE FOR TWO OLD GEEZER'S, HA!
KEVIN WAS OUR WAITER, JUST GREAT, UPON ENTERING WE MET THE PERSON WHO SEEMED TO BE DRESSED LIKE AN INDIAN SCOUT WITH RIFLE, ADJACENT TO THE FIRE PIT, YOUR INDIAN GENTLEMAN WHO PLAYS A WIND INSTRUMENT CAME INTO OUR SMALL DINNING AREA, IN ADDITION TO SHARING HIS MUSIC, HE TOLD US A BRIEF STORY OF THE INDIAN NATIONS REPRESENTED IN COLORADO, ESP. THE ANCIENT BURIAL GROUNDS DISCOVERED WHILE DEVELOPING THE NEW DIA AND THE STEPS TAKEN BY CITY GOVERNMENT TO HONOR THE GROUND AND HISTORY THAT NOW IS UNDERNEATH THE AIRPORT. ALSO, ANOTHER EXTREME DELIGHT, WHERE THE LADIES WHO CAME AND SANG,IN HARMONY, IN OUR LITTLE AREA AND THE REST OF THE RESTAURANT. WE HAVE ENJOYED MANY THANKSGIVING MEALS AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT TOO.
My husband and I go to The Fort every year for Valentines Day. Always good, Chris (the manager) always makes sure we are having a good time and that my allergies are taken care of back in the kitchen. Handle with care is one of the reasons we keep coming back. Thank you.
This was our first visit to the Fort. We were in the cozy Tower room, next to the fireplace. We enjoyed a half-serving of bone marrow and the Frontier sampler. Now, you need to know, i have always been reluctant to try "oddball" dishes. But, wow.
The bison tongue was tender and delicious. The marrow was hot and tasty. The Rocky mountain oyster were diced, breaded, and tender. Not the least bit rubbery or strange. They even tasted great for lunch 2 days later. The bision steak was bliss. So well prepared it was the best we've ever had.
The pecan pie and rum infused chocolate were so-so. But everything else was AWESOME.
A Blackfoot Indian gentleman played his flute and shared stories around our tables. It added to the experience, never an intrusion. We spent a couple hours enjoying the appetizers, drinks, main courses and dessert, but never felt rushed. It was the best pre-Valentine experience and our server was great too.
We celebrated our 32nd anniversary at The Fort. We have been to your restaurant many times, BUT this time it was the BEST. The waitresses were great, BUT the food was the best we have ever had. I hunted down the chef afterwards to let him know how great our T-bones were.
It is always special there, but last Sunday it was the notch above! We received the WOW experience. Can't wait till we get to come again!!!
Love The Fort! We have been here many times and is for special occasions for sure. The Bison bone marrow appetizer is so good. Cuts of meat, steak is very good quality and size. Lots to choose from on the menu from steak to duck to fish and so on. Wait staff is always good and informative. It's expensive but worth the price.
The Fort and staff "Never" disappoint... I haven't been back in Denver for a long time. My wife had never been to Colorado, much less The Fort. So for her Birthday we flew in for the weekend and the 1st Dinner was at The Fort. She absolutely Loved it. Plus the complimentary Dessert was a nice Bonus.. Thanks so much for a Memorable dinner. Buffalo Prime rib...❤️
It was an outstanding meal. The server was exceptional with an exceptional knowledge base. He made it very special for me and my sweetie. I love you guys and I will be back again as I come back several times before. As a law enforcement Federal Officer I've gone too many dining facilities and I would rate this at the top of my list.
We love the Fort and are always grateful when they remember us with a special coupon. We celelbrate our anniversary there every year and take out of town guests. The food is always delicious, the staff professional and attentive to our needs. We love the comfortable atmosphere and the ability to talk and not have to shout.
We went to The Fort after seeing it on TV and it was a great experience. We went for our wedding anniversary. I am American and my wife is from Peru. They had a native Blackfoot Indian flute player which added to the cultural experience. Since we are from Florida, we wanted to know about the 'native' culture and this restaurant had it. Although some may say that the native people were not properly represented, we were given an introduction to an actual Blackfoot who told us stories of his parents and growing up there. The food was well prepared and tasty. For an appetizer, we had Beef Tongue and, of course, Rocky Mountain Oysters. Which are not oysters at all. They were different and delicious. The Tongue was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Hard to do for Tongue. We had Bison, Elk and Quail as well and they were great. The Elk was extremely tender and had a really soft flavor. Not like a wild animal or like deer but still a little exotic. The quail was perfectly cooked too. For desert we had the signature Negrita. Good Chocolate Mousse with Rum. Delicious! Hard to believe they can still call the desert that but it was really good. And we don't mind the name. Although I am sure some will. We also had the Mud Pie which was very good too. We had their signature Margaritas and they were good. Strong enough but not too much. Definitely recommend The Fort for a romantic or special occasion. We even sat outside (we were the only ones brave enough to fight the cold that night) by the fire pits they have. It was a great experience.
Food was very good. Have been visiting restaurant for 50+ years. Will definitely come back but will make reservation directly with venue and never, NEVER use Open Table again.
Open Table reservations resulted in daily email that had nothing to do with the Sat pm reservation. We wanted to dine at The Fort, not get bombarded by unwelcome Open Table useless emails.
Great food, ambiance, and just plain cool! Expensive, but if youre looking for an experience and some memories, it is well worth it. Came here for casual dining for the evening and to treat ourselves, but would be great for a date or family get together night. It's not everyday you can find a nice restaurant that serves game meat with some trade whiskey to wash it down!
Very disappointed with the quality of the food. Ribs were cold and tough. Service was friendly but tardy. Due to poor quality of food the cost was extremely over-priced. We were very excited in anticipation of my wife's first visit to The FORT. Our discouraging experience will probably be cause for choosing another venue in the future. It truly is painful to be so disappointed with "The FORT."
