Situated in the Red Rocks country 17 miles southwest of Denver on Hwy 285, The Fort is a true replica of Bent's Fort, the first American community west of the Missississippi & rendezvous of Kit Carson & other "Mountain Men". The nine dining rooms, seating 350, are white plastered over adobe. Unusual but hearty dishes, typical of the early West, are provided from open grills. Waugh!

We were expecting something great. It wasn't there. The wait staff was attentive. My husband's steak was served rare rather than medium so his meal was eaten after the rest of us. OVER PRICED!!

An unusual setting(recreation of a fort) set in the red rocks area of Colorado. If you are into unusual food, this is the place for you. Choices including, elk, buffalo and quail as well as more traditional beef and even some seafood. I had the hunter's plate, which was a sampling of the buffalo, quail and elk. It was delicious. The salad and breads are very good and they have a very nice selection of alcoholic drinks. The guacamole is extremely good and not to be missed for an appetizer. Service was attentive, but not intrusive like some places can be.

It is understandable that items are marked up in order to make a profit but the vegetarian option was more than the standard mark up. Two medium sized stuffed bell peppers are not worth $30. They don't even have meat in them. The remaining dishes are somewhat acceptable because of the overall experience.

Excellent experience, wait staff courteous and attentive, knowledgeable and very friendly. They paid just the right amount of attention to us, answered all of our questions, and were willing to take things back if they were not right. (Everything was wonderful!) Buffalo Prime Rib was outstanding!

If it's cold outside, be prepared to wear a sweater or light jacket when dining. Just be aware of how much what you are ordering costs, so you are not surprised when you get the bill!

the only negative my wife and had about the Fort was that it was too cold in the main dining room. When we got there, they had the front door propped open and a very strong cold breeze was blowing through the waiting area and into the dining area. This was a cold February night, with outside temps in low 30s. We had to eat our meal with our coats on, and looking around the dining room, there were lots of folks doing the same thing. We were close to a fireplace, but it wasn't putting out a whole lot of heat. Otherwise, great food, enjoyed by both of us. Excellent service, pricing right where we expected it to be. Expect to get a very filling meal.
