We were disappointed in the Fort. To start with we were seated in what appeared to be an auxiliary dinning room that lacks the intimate ambiance that we expected at the Fort. The service was friendly, but we felt that we were rushed in order to make room for the next sitting. The bread was very disappointing: it was cold to almost warm and even the muffins (which we enjoyed during previous visits) were pedestrian. The meat on the game plate was very good (the bison was a little underdone) and the bison filet mignon was good. However, the side dishes were very disappointing and were served only slightly warm. The fruit cobbler desert was excellent, as expected. Unfortunately, another of our go-to restaurants seems to be letting success pull it down rather that keeping up the kind of dinning experience for which we're willing to pay a premium.
One of the best steaks I've had anywhere in the western US; in this case, it was a bison filet. The rhubarb/strawberry pie for dessert was excellent too. Salad with blue cheese dressing had big chunks of blue cheese in it. A truly memorable meal and well worth the drive to Morrison, CO
Great atmosphere and great food! Service was very friendly and helpful.
We have been patrons of the Fort since 1976, and frequently celebrate special occasions there. I have to say that the quality of the food has not been up to our expectations for the past few years. The ribeye steaks have been full of gristle and fat. The buffalo prime rib I had last night was ordered medium and was served well done. It was also very fatty, for buffalo. The sauce or gravy on the mashed potatoes was awful, as was the Brussels sprouts, which were undercooked and hard. All our food was cold, even the sausage boudin appetizer. Of course, that could have something to do with the freezing temperature inside the restaurant. I shivered throughout the meal. I complained of that to both our waitress and bus girl, but nothing was done. I’m really considering patronizing closer restaurants in the future.
This restaurant has potential to be great, mainly due to location and views. Sadly, we won't return. The $49 filet mignon was bland and dry, despite medium rare request. The Brussels Sprouts that came on all our dishes were also bland and hardly prepared, mostly just shaved and set on the plate. For less cost, we would have had a superior meal at any of Denver's great steak restaurants, along with the type of finer service one would expect. The Fort felt kitchy and terribly overpriced.
The raw Brussels sprouts as a vegetable were not up to par and the chili sauce in place of gravy on the mashed potatoes missed the mark.
Waitress was difficult to communicate with. Service was very mundane. Food just okay. Very disappointed this time around. Waitress acted like she was doing us a giant favor by serving us.😤
Classic western setting and ambiance. Great variety of food choices not common to most restaurants.
Ruth knew it was our 20th wedding anniversary and made our night extra special. She is an amazing human and you are lucky to have her there. Thank you for always helping up celebrate milestones and special occasions!
We were early for our reservation time, but seated right away. The staff was exceptional, polite and welcoming. As we hadn't been in for some time, there were some menu choices we would not have made. These were well executed recipies, just not to our tastes. All the food was flavorful, plentiful and served at the appropriate temperature. We'll be back, sooner next time we hope.
Not a terrible place to eat. Atmosphere is pretty cool. The staff seemed to be a little unorganized, and very young. For the prices of steak, you should get a better cooked steak, and more experienced staff.
Also, the laundry room outside was a turn off from the beautiful views that we were trying to take in.
Clean up the grounds, paint the building on the exterior, and this could be a spot to remember.
It was our fourth visit to The Fort and as always it was fantastic. It is our favorite place to dine when we are in Colorado. The food is excellent, the wine list extensive and there is no better ambiance to be found. The waitstaff were great. We were greeted in a very friendly manner when we arrived early for our reservation. We had a glass of wine out on the patio before dinner and the service was excellent. I can't say enough about the food. We had the 16oz Buffalo Ribeye (my favorite) for dinner with a bottle of Jordan Cabernet. Dessert was a piece of Cheesecake (complimentary because it was our anniversary) which just melts in your mouth and we finished our stay with a cup of The Fort Coffee out on the patio. Fantastic place, fantastic food, fantastic waitstaff. We will be going back the next time we are in the area. Did I say it was fantastic? Oh yeah, I did.
The Fort is true to its history providing friendly service in a quaint atmosphere. The meal is an experience from the welcoming to the dessert. Be sure to spend some time as your waiter attends to you, out on the fire pit deck and enjoy the magnificent view. Be brave and order something you don't normally eat. It will be well prepared and inspire you to adventurous again.
T bones were tough and overcooked. actually a hard crust was burned on to them. Mashed potatoes appeared to be instant. A half of mediocre corn /cob with cyan sprinkle. Waitress was tired and forced. I won't recommend this to anyone
Cafeteria food at fine restaurant prices. You pay for the scenery.
The Fort is one of a very few of my "go to" places when I want to take people to that special place. In 20 plus years it has never disappointed me. People will remember and talk about their visit for years to come.
Such a beautiful and fun place to visit, and the food was incredible! The staff were friendly and accommodating to special requests. A very special experience.
We had a wonderful experience celebrating our anniversary. We were seated in a small room to the side which felt very cozy. The food was excellent. The waiter was wonderful and helpful.
My husband and I went to celebrate my 60th birthday and it was the best date night experience we have ever had! The food was superb, the ambiance wonderful and our waiter Jonathan and his assistant Sharon were awesome. We can't wait to go back!
I love the Fort. I hadn’t been there for many years and it’s as good as I remember!
An unforgettable evening!!! Amazing company, views, service, cocktails and steaks!!!
A really fun place to go and a fun atmosphere and great history to read about!
We have always loved your restaurant and have enjoyed it probably 10 times over the past 15 years (we wish you were closer to our home). We were there on September 20th with our friends from Holland who are visiting the States and Colorado for the first time. They were enchanted by the ambiance and the history. The food was amazing as always and the staff was very connected. Thanks so much for making their dinner and experience such a wonderful one. Linda Ardizzone and Steve Marcantonio.
We enjoy taking guests to The Fort because the food is consistently good and interesting. and creative. The "Bison Butter" is always a big hit but let it cool just a bit. It comes to table very hot.
Guacamole is wonderful. Bread and pumpkin muffins are very good. My husband recommends the quail and the lamb and the rib eye. Salads are good, too. Almost five stars overall. I think a couple more vegetarian options would help. Besides a salad there is only one vegetarian dish. It is quite good - delicious in fact but I would love to see another creative option for vegetarians.
Anniversary dinner was fantastic. Our servers Lynn and Linda made the experience perfect!
Great food. Different food items, definitely pricey, but well-worth it.
The food was great. My husband and I had the T-Bone Special and it was very tasty and done to perfection. The salad dressing Chipotle Honey Vinaigrette was delicious. We thought the rest of the menu was a little pricey. Kevin was our server and very polite and paid attention to what we needed.
Very cool place to eat, we ate here before heading to a concert at Red Rocks.
When I made our reservation, I asked for a table with a good view and let them know it was our anniversary. When we arrived, it was early and they weren’t busy. They sat us at a table next to a window with another(occupied)table on the other side. Then there was another wall of windows to look through. It was a view but it was pretty disappointing.
We had a great server, Johnathan. He was on top of everything and took really good care of us.
We had The Forts version of scotch eggs, pickled quail eggs wrapped in buffalo sausage for an appetizer. We thought they were quite good. The salad was yummy, too.
Then we ordered dinner. My husband had the buffalo filet, rare plus, and it came out perfect. I had what is essentially surf and turf. Grilled shrimp with a 5 ounce beef sirloin, ordered rare plus. My steak came out med-well so, we sent it back. It took so long for a rare plus replacement, I had finished the rest of my meal and my husband had finished his. The Fort, known for its meat, and they screw up a steak then, can’t get it out on the fly. Disappointing. Especially for the price of the food.
Oh, and the flies! There were so many flies! I killed one with my water glass and another one landed in the sauce on my husbands plate. Fortunately, he had just finished but, yuck!
We won’t be back and we will not recommend this restaurant to anyone, ever.
Always a pleasure! We’ve made the fort a yearly family tradition.
Been there before, as expected...wait service a tad slow but it was a busy night.
Was in Denver for a business trip and asked for a good steak house. The Fort did not disappoint. The drive from Denver was a bit of a pain, but then you are welcomed by the great staff and the food was amazing. Very worth the drive.
The food was underwhelming and overpriced - a disappointing experience.
Our anniversary dinner, the manager of The Fort treated us nice and served us great!!!
Such a fun place to celebrate a special event and bring someone that's never been before.
It’s got a great view and the steaks are delicious. It’s a little overpriced though especially the kids meals.
First time here. Food was fabulous and service excellent. We had the 16 oz T-Bone, Bison Filets, Duck..everyone happy with their selection. Too full for desert. Visiting from Florida
The salmon was overdone a bit. The bison had a bit of a propane gas cooked taste, but the elk was excellent, and I'd highly recommend the quail. The potatoes were lovely, but corn was rather bland.
First time to visit The Fort. What we chose we didn’t care for but maybe we’ll give it another try and order something different. Didn’t care for the Buffalo ribs.
I don’t know if the restaurant was just having a bad night but we have reservations at 8 and had to wait!!! We waiting like 15 minutes before we sat down and our hostess didn’t give us menus... I had to ask our server for a menu. There bathrooms were broken the whole time we were there. Wine selection was not good and WAY over priced! The whole menu was over priced. Nothing really that special about the place besides the ambiance. Also one of the servers broke a glass right next to us and it hit my friend in the arm! And she just kept walking! Didn’t stop to clean up the mess. I got the buffalo, elk and quail which was all good but not worth $51 dollars.
