About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Romantic
  • Innovative
Long established neighbourhood brasserie, The Depot enjoys a just about perfect location near the centre of beautiful Barnes. Nestling in the Tideway Yard, a renovated Victorian cobbled courtyard, it forms part of an award-winning Victorian conversion with a secluded south-facing entrance patio - a deeply desirable fume-free alternative to the high street. Those prone to waves of nostalgia (and relaxation for that matter) will love its highly polished parquet flooring and worn out wood furniture. High ceilings and exposed brick arches link three main dining areas, while a conservatory runs the length of the room framing the magnificent views of the Thames. Best book the much-coveted patio or river view tables, where sunny lunches often lead the type of sunsets that make you glad to be alive. An essential part of the exquisite experience, of course, is the food.

Another excellent meal at this restaurant which has become a regular for our family over the past few years. We hope that Rick Stein does not mess with a winning formula, does not raise prices and keeps the excellent staff who help make this place so enjoyable.

One of our favourite local restaurants that we haven't visited since the announcement it has been purchased by Rick Stein. I am a massive fan and our area desperately needs a good fish influenced menu. At the moment the menu has not changed and we understand there is going to be a revamp in early 2017; we were far from disappointed as we've had numerous good meals at The Depot, and again we were not let down. Given the visit was on New Years Day for lunch we knew it was going to be busy. The service was a bit slower than normal but it was to be expected and our waitress was extremely courteous and apologetic for the delay. The menu was very well selected and provided an excellent choice. We have two young children and their food choice was excellent and the staff were very accommodating to our youngest who has food allergies. The lamb chops had sold out by the replacement of pheasant was well cooked and presented. The Sea Bream my wife had was epic though and I would highly recommend. Deserts are always fabulous and again we weren't disappointed. The wine list is well priced and has something for most palates; we went middle of the road and it suited our meal very well. Overall price wise I was very impressed as we'd dined at some restaurants recently and had a much less fulfilling meal for around the same price. A great start to 2017!

We had a really wonderful special lunch at The Depot to celebrate our civil partnership with close family. Having booked two months ago we were given a table with a river view and thankfully it was sunny and the view was clear. The wine list was good - we had the prosecco - the bread was yummy and the choices on the menu pleased everyone. The food was lovely, decent portion sizes, and very tasty. All in all we were there more than two hours and were not rushed or bothered by the staff, but they were accessible when we needed them. Top marks.

Now a local institution it has for many years provided a high standard of fare at very reasonable prices. A bit short on high end wines - and it has parking! Interested to see how it changes after the Rick Stein makeover
