The popularity of tapas restaurants has seen numerous pretenders crop up throughout London, Balham is lucky enough though to have The Lounge Spanish Tapas Bar, an utterly authentic dining room filled with Spanish flavour. Since 2002 owners Phillipe and Manuela have provided locals with dining experiences to remember, transporting them to sunny Mediterranean villages with their friendly, warm service and delicious home cooked food. While Manuela expertly oversees the ambience and service of The Lounge, Phillipe takes charge in the kitchen, drawing on his knowledge of and passion for Spanish food. Time honoured techniques are put to good use, traditional recipes drawn on and fresh, carefully sourced ingredients used to create The Lounge’s trademark tapas, possibly the most authentic in South West London. Take your time, enjoy food and wine as it should be enjoyed and bring your friends, after all, tapas is all about sharing and The Lounge Spanish Tapas Bar is all about tapas.

Disappointingly on Friday night there were many items NOT on the menu including the wonderful Fabada which was why I booked the venue. We still had a great selection of plates which were all tasty and well cooked. Most of the tables were reserved and it was quite buzzy by the time we finished.

Went with two friends for a traditional Spanish meal, a lot of choice to choose from, the staff were very friendly, and were not pushy at all. In fact we did two helpings of main courses after we decided the food was so nice we would have more. Would highly recommend for a meal for anyone who wants a traditional, Spanish tapas, in a friendly atmosphere. Plus a free Spanish shot each at the end of the meal.

We chose this restaurant for a residents' Christmas meal, after friends and I had enjoyed meals here before. The food, service and value, as ever, was exceedingly good, and having chosen to go mid-week was a good choice (as far as we were concerned) as it wan't too crowded and we were able to hear ourselves talk! Always a warm welcome, staff friendly and polite, and nothing is too much trouble. It's lovely to know we have a 'local' we can trust, and rely on.

I have had the pleasure to visit the restaurant twice now. The food is beautiful, very well priced. The ambiance is chilled and authentic. The owner is very attentive and kind. Would highly recommend.

It wasn't very busy on a Saturday night which surprised us, but that didn't matter. One of the most extensive tapas menus we have ever seen. Nothing disappointed so we had another round especially a mushroom topped with cheese. The staff were really friendly, relaxed and seemed to enjoy working there.

We went there because of the great reviews on opentable but I was ver disappointed. The food is not that great, it is more like processed food than Spanish tapas. Being half Spanish I can assure you this is not the food we have in Spain. The charcuterie is basically a pack you could find in any supermarket. The prawns are just shrimp dipped in butter. The tapas are oily and a bit tasteless. The bread was the only good food on the table. Very good service though but it was way too expensive for what we had.

Awesome food with very generous portions! The staff were very friendly and it's great value for money. Ambience is a little bright but otherwise great place for some tasty food!
