I highly recommend this restaurant. I promise the food is better than anything you could order in the center of Waikiki. It is just a 5 minute drive north.
Server was lovely. Food was exceptional. It's off the loud, chaotic path of Waikiki. We had scallops, lamb, Maui onion soup and cesaer salad. All fantastic. And a sophisticated wine selection. Went with Neyers cab. The restaurant even gave us a special desert for our anniversary. Thoughtful. Overall, highly recommend.
Absolutely fantastic. Enjoyed the taster's menu, every course was beautifully presented and truly ono. Great fish and scallops. Wine pairings were wonderful and easy to navigate, server was attentive and charming. Atmosphere was elegant but very inviting, a wonderful place to enjoy the chef's innovations. For special occasions or that meaningful first (or last) night's stay on Oahu, we'd go back in a heartbeat.
Went for the first time this week. There were four of us and we dined family style. The cocktails were potent and well crafted, all of the food was great. I liked that they had a variety of different types of food. We did the tomato tartare and also the ahi tartare for apps and did the lamb tagine, chicken curry and TBD bento (which is a vegetarian trio of hummus, eggplant and falafel). It all worked wonderfully together. We polished everything off and we were full but not uncomfortably stuffed at the end.
The setting is also lovely and is great for date nights and special events.
Will definitely be returning!
I normally do not leave any reviews, but I have to make an exception for this gem. We had Absolutely delightful dinner last night!!! The food was amazing, especially ahi tartare, aged beef, special chicken curry, plus jolly desserts. All prepared very carefully for refined flavors and textures!! And our server Damien was simply fantastic. Cozy, inviting interior with beautiful park views as well. We’re So~ happy with our first visit and hope to make more visits soon. Thank you so much for such a wonderful evening!! ❤️❤️❤️
Chef & staff were extremely friendly & attentive! Will definitely return for another meal!
Excellent experience at TBD. Beautiful restaurant with a good drink menu (great cocktails; didn't have the wine but the selection was quite good).
Such a unique place, everything we tried was AMAZING. It's also an incredible value for super gourmet + innovative food. One of the best meals we had in Hawaii by far!
Food was amazing. Chef was very accommodating and made the whole experience great. Thank you
Creative and delicious food, excellent service. A very enjoyable dinner.
Nice place, loved the ambience and setting. Food was pretty good, some inventive recipes. However, did have some minor issues, such as the soup was just off and needed something more, to make it outstanding. The scallop risotto was packed with flavor but also had a few bits of sand. The lamb shank tagine also was flavorful, esp the sauce. However the lamb itself maybe needed a few more minutes, it was a bit chewy and not very tender as I would have expected. The desserts were exceptional however. However presentation was a bit of a letdown with desserts, as they were not consistent or like what we had seen in previous photos.
The service however was exceptional. Very friendly and caring staff. Their drinks (cocktails and mock tails) were also amazing. They made me a spl virgin drink which was out of the world! One of the best mock tails I have ever had. The wait staff did get chatty with us and asked us how we are doing and where we were from etc. we told them we were on our first trip to Hawaii for our anniversary week. It wasn’t our anniversary on the day we visited the restaurant but still, they got us a little dessert as complimentary with a candle and all. We thought it was a very sweet gesture telling us they genuinely cared! Overall a great experience!
Excellent service and delicious food. Will definitely come back when I visit Hawaii next time. Must try the foie gras gyoza they were truly delicious
Delicious dinner. We both did the four-course tasting, and savored every bite. We started with two tartars (tomato for her, beef for him), and it was joyous throughout. Her soup and his salad were wonderful, as were her salmon and his rib eye. Dessert included cream puffs and cookies, and a wonderful finish to the evening.
The ambience is really good. The starter, soup, salad and dessert was very nice. But all the main that we ordered were overcooked. The rice of scallop risotto was overcooked and so was the steak of steak frites (we ordered medium rare). The service and everything was exceptional.
Very nice. Went with tasting menu. Very nice cocktails. Our waiter, David, helped with some non-traditional wine pairings. Fun! Food was wonderful, not too much. We faced Diamond Head park. Restaurant nicely decorated. Full. Want to go again! Soon!
This was one of the best meals I’ve had in my life. We came from LA and the food was absolutely fantastic. Beyond all expectations.
Food was fabulous. I had the scallops risotto and they were cooked perfectly. Cocktails were yummy, and service was very attentive and friendly. Only qualm is that the lights are a bit bright in there, would maybe suggest warmer bulbs easier on the eyes. We will be returning!!
Service was outstanding. Food just okay, but service and drinks made it a good night.
Amazing all around!
We had the chef's tasting menu and it was a competent and acceptable but not special. We're used to tasting menus that are different or set apart from the regular menu. Here, the tasting menu was essentially selecting one item from each section of the regular menu to comprise the tasting menu. That's like ordering ala carte except that it is packaged for a set price. More economical than ala carte but less special. All of the dishes were good, but nothing knocked our socks off. But the service and ambiance were terrific. Especially the service. Very team-oriented wait staff that was polite and courteous. Our primary waiter, Damien, was excellent and well supported by other waiters and hostesses. The dining room overlooks Kapiolani Park which is nice, and the entire dining room is casually warm and quietly elegant. I also had a view of the kitchen and observed a very well organized operation with a firm but professional "showrunner" and a hard-working group of chefs. Overall we enjoyed our dining experience very much.
The tasting menu exceeded all my expectations. From the amazing courses to the service, overall we enjoyed our time and will definitely be back to try the other menu items! TBD is now our new go-to place for date night!
Had a very pleasant meal at TBD. Servers were polite, knowledgeable about wine selections, and checked in often. Highlights of the meal were the fois gras gyoza, shrimp escargot, and mango kulfi.
Red/green salad is very nice, and staff were attentive to our needs. Scallops had excellent flavor and were done perfectly. Salmon with olive tapenade was creative and hardy portion. L.T.J Collins was a nice touch to top off a great dinner!
Great cocktails. Contemporary vibe. Amazing food
Chef Vikram and his staff out did them selves. My guests had a wonderful time. The food and service was excellent.
Very small but clean nice ambience restaurant. There’s a view of the park. The food was delicious the best deals by far the tasting menu they say that the portions are a bit smaller however we still left full. I ordered the tuna tartare the steak tartare the onion soup the steak Frites and the banana dessert as well as the mango dessert and everything was phenomenal.
The tartare‘s were the best course by far. The soup is really good smoky paprika onion flavor.
The steak wasn’t my favorite but overall had good flavor and was cooked well.
The mango ice cream was very good solid simple dessert. And the banana was really good with a caramel drizzle on top delicious.
My first time dining to TBD was excellent. The food was great, the atmosphere quiet and great for conversation, and we also enjoyed the view of Kapiolani Park and Diamond Head. BUT - what impressed us most was our waiter. He was EXCELLENT: friendly, on top of things and anticipated our needs. Sorry, didn't get his name.
Unbeknownst to us, he heard that we were celebrating a birthday and for dessert presented her with a complimentary yummy dessert complete with candle and an icing-inscribed plate. Couldn't have been a nicer evening.
This place is a gem.
The restaurant overlooks beautiful Kapi‘olani Park near the base of Diamond Head, and we enjoyed our view from the window. It brought to mind fine restaurants in famous parks such as those in NYC and San Francisco.
The menu is viewed via QR code and the bill paid via an online system, two new and intriguing experiences for me.
Isaiah, our waiter, was attentive and thoughtful. The manager checked in on us regularly.
The sun dried tomato and ricotta cheese appetizer was delicious; best sun dried “tapenade” I’ve tasted. The red and green salad was balanced with a dressing that complemented rather than upstaged the fresh vegetables and pears. The curry du jour was complex, pleasantly rich, and very satisfying.
The woman who greeted us was really sweet and friendly; she even mentioned that we were there for a special occasion (bday). Since it was mother's day they had a set four course menu for $99/person - this was fine since it's essentially a condensed version of their regular menu. The meal was off to an ok start - I ordered the shrimp and avocado salad which was literally just shrimp and avocado with sauce on it. My friend ordered some proscuitto bread dish - the bread was cold and hard. Afterwards, there was a scallop gazpacho type dish that I thought was fine but my friend felt the scallop was raw so we switched since I had ordered a mushroom tartine. The mushroom tartine was fine but you could tell it wasn't really fresh - it was also extremely salty.
Finally, the main course came - we all ordered the ribeye and were extremely excited but I have never tasted a saltier steak. There was some sort of peppercorn seasoning (which tasted burnt) on top that we all tried to scrape off but the taste wouldn't go away. This literally wasn't edible at all and none of us finished it. I can't explain how disappointing this was, the only good part of the meal were the fries (also salty). We didn't even want the dessert at this point but it came - french vanilla ice cream with some random bits of a stale chocolate chip cookie; the only redeeming part of this dish was the fresh chocolate that was poured on top.
The cherry on top was that I saw the chef (yes, Vikram in the flesh) sitting at the bar. We were the last table to leave and it wasn't crowded at all, but we weren't asked about our meal. I'd never waste my money here again - almost $600 for a meal that I w.o a doubt could have made better.
As usual, excellent service and wonderful food! Chef Vikram never disappoints!
Great food and service. Will recommend and go back again.
scallop and risotta was so yummy, flavorful, a bit rich, so perfect to share.
lamb shank was light with just enough flavor, tender, fall off the bone goodness.
Our sever was super amazing and the food was melt in your mouth good
We had a lovely dinner here celebrating our anniversary. Service was lovely and the food and ambiance delightful.
We savored this meal together. It is my husbands birthday weekend and TBD hit every note that made it exquisite! We shared the ahi tartare and shrimp escargot for appetizers then shared the pear and beet salad and scallop risotto as our main. It was the best risotto we’ve eaten! Our server was a wonderfully attentive young French man that made our experience just perfect. This meal was memory making.
The service and the food was outstanding! Everything from start to finish was perfection, the food was impeccable and I can’t on plain about one thing! I would go back in a heartbeat!
The food was excellent. Simple dishes but with a very interesting interpretation. The value for money was formidable! Our party took the tasting menu and if was much bigger than expected, very good choices and delicious! Totally need to be tried when in Waikiki!
Vacation in Hawaii with family. The food was delicious; both interesting and creative. I loved my lamb tajine and my husband’s chicken curry. Others had a very elegant version of fish n chips and risotto with scallops. The kids enjoyed a children’s menu which plate’s rivaled the adults and were served just before ours settling the hungry youths.
Service was top notch but not too fussy. The dinning room was stylish, fresh and playful modern. All in all a JOB WELL DONE.
We will return.
It was great
First time eating here. Great experience! Customer service was excellent and so was the food. Would definitely go back!
Great environment and wonderful food
