Always love dining at Tangata. I especially love that several food/beverage menu items are "exhibition themed" with the Bowers Museum. My family always dines at Tangata when attending exhibits at the Bowers. The food, service staff and dining room are always first rate.
It was a mixed bag. The setting is pretty. I ordered a burger. It tasted good. But, because I asked for mustard and mayo to be added to it, they got it wrong and served it DRY (supposed to have thousand island dressing on it, too). Then, we had to ask again twice for mustard and mayo. A simple request, it shouldn't be that hard.
The fries were good.
The apple pie was just okay, and certainly not worth $9.50 for one slice.
Good menu delicious food way too loud in there.
Lovely.
Went for the Disney exhibit.....stayed for lunch....
We really enjoyed our lunch after seeing a Bowers Museum special exhibit. We arrived early for our 11:45 reservation and was quickly seated. Our server, Peter, was warm, friendly and helpful. It was a special menu in honor of the Disney exhibit. We ordered the cobb salad and Walt's prime rib chili. For dessert we shared the apple pie ala mode. Food arrived in a timely fashion. The attention to detail on the look of both dishes made it taste even more delicious. They put edible flowers on the sour cream dollops in the chili. We both enjoyed our experience.
Service was extremely slow from getting menus to food service (we almost missed the lecture after arriving at Tangata 1 1/2 hours before it started.) The bills were all (4) wrong and had to be redone - and were still wrong. The apple pie was a disgrace for $9.50 (i doubt if Walt would have felt any different, nor was it the apple pie he would have eaten.) The Chef's Salad did not have any meat or chicken in it. The only good food was the Tuna Melt (3 of us had it.)
Meal and service were certainly not up to any Patina standards i have experienced before (Segerstrom, LA Music Center, Tangata in the past, Disney Hall, etc. for many years.)
Very disappointing.
Peter is great.
We had brunch at this restaurant after visiting the Bowers. All the items we ordered were delectable. The service was excellent. I have been to this restaurant many times and it never fails to deliver.
We love to visit this restaurant every once in a while when we go to the museum. Their menu is always fun and the food is quality.
Lovely setting and great service. Food, okay. We had fish and chips and while it was initially tasty, it became rather soggy once it cooled off. Not great, but not bad. Overall, we enjoyed our lunch.
Good food. Good service. We eat lunch here every time we visit the museum and have never been disappointed.
The brunch this past Sunday was great. We had the mushroom ravioli and a cold salmon dish each dish was excellent. George was our server and was patient, friendly and efficient. During our meal, the hostess came by to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. We are planning our next visit.
Our group of five had a very nice, leisurely lunch, with wonderful food and service.
My friends and I really enjoyed the food and ambiance of Tangata Restaurant when we dined there prior to viewing the museum exhibits. The waiter was friendly and courteous and the food was superior. The ravioli was excellent and my friends loved the tuna salad sandwich. We highly recommend this trendy eatery.
We ordered the tuna sandwich and the enchiladas. Both were good, but not really up to the standard I expect from Tangata. Our server was wonderful, however, full points for service!
Wonderful experience, we had a tastey lunch and the service was great. Wasn't too busy or loud. Great views of the outdoors.
For the convenience
Otherwise food tried to be trendy portions were small
Excellent as always! The noise level started out very quiet, and became energetic as time progressed!
Crab cakes were great as was the the soup. The fish and chips was to die for.
Eating at Tangata is a wonderful experience: good food, attentive service, service responsive (returned my call regarding a seat preference), outside dining experience, surroundings. Whenever I visit the Bowers, I always have lunch at Tangata, since it is such an enjoyable place to be.
Received three scratches on my forehead with blood from the branch sticking out of the Bougainville bush at the Resturant outer dining area. Some to maintenance and waiters.
Lovely setting,outstanding service, delicious lunch.
We shall return!
The menu is not extensive but has the ideal choices for a quick lunch. Roglio, the head server, is great and so helpful and always makes sure everything is as good as possible. Daniel, our server, was very good and attentive to our needs. We have had lunch several times before and it has always been very good. We plan to return.
The items are a bit pricey. When the place fills up it becomes too loud to hear a normal conversation our your table.
The food was excellent with a nice menu selection. The Cobb salad was amazing!!
great -place to eat while visiting the museum. hamburger was outstanding.
Food and drinks were great. Service is friendly. Ambiance was quaint and casual.
We were there for a Sunday lunch prior to going to the museum. Even though the restaurant was not that busy over all, our waiter was. It took a long time for us to place our order for the main meal. The maître d' finally took our order instead. I am not sure what caused this but they need to work out this kink in how they divide up their workload. Food was good.
Wife and I spent the day at the Museum. Lunch made the day more special.
The wild mushroom ravioli dish was delicious. It was one of the best raviolis I’ve ever had
Each of our party of four ordered a different dish. Each of the dishes was delicious.
The service was excellent.
Overall experience was good. There were a few flaws. Had to ask for bread, salt & pepper, and for my ice tea, after having been ordered, but never came. Asked for Cobb Salad w/dressing on the side, but it came dressed anyway. Since the lemon/thyme dressing was light and delicious, I did not complain. Just felt like an off day for them, although not very busy. Food was very good and servers were polite. I would go back.
Nice interlude after time in the museum but would be a good destination if in the area. Service was fabulous. Everything else berg good. Dining out in the patio was pleasant and relaxing.
Sunday Brunch at 1 PM was extremely disappointing! Bread was stale; coffee was not hot, Machego salad had less than an ounce of cheese and service was so-so. Food was not worth the price. There were very few people in the restaurant at the time and staff seemed anxious to get out of there.
We enjoyed our lunch prior to one of the Exhibit Walkthoughs.
Five of our six participants ordered the special Tamayo Enchiladas, which we had been told were wonderful. We all concurred.
Tried the torilla soup and the Turkey sandwich, both were great. The place was packed, suggest reservations.
The food at Tangata does not disappoint. It is fresh, well presented, and tasty. The wait staff needs to be trained to “wait” until the guests have finished a course or the meal before interfering with this experience. I was presented with my e tree when I had not finished my soup. Our initial waiter had specifically asked if I wanted the soup first. There were too many waiters appointed to our table who were not coordinated or directed. Read plates were taken when there was still bread on them. There was more attention to cleaning the table rather than the experiences of the guests. When my entree arrived my soup bowl was pushed aside somewhat in order to place the entree next to it! The waiters should have waited for each course to be be finished—by all of the guests and not just one. We felt rushed to finish our meal when we were enjoying the food and ambiance. The waiter or waiters should have asked for permission to serve the next course. We were talking and eating. We were trying to enjoy a leisurely meal. Worse yet, our table was one of four in the entire restaurant so there was no need to rush. The next time I will refuse the entree and demand the waiter return it to the kitchen until I am ready for it.
Waiter George was excellent at his job, charming and generous with his time. His associate (both very handsome) was also very commendable and graciously served us beautifully and made us feel as special as the birthday we were celebrating.
Fabulous museum and restaurant combo. Excellent staff and service. If there are a lot of people it is difficult to hear conversations and my hearing is excellent. I would have sat outside if were not so hot.
B’day brunch for my sister. Service was slow so we didn’t have time for dessert.
