We loved our lunch at Tamarind. The service was outstanding and we felt very welcomed. We came with a 7m old baby and everyone was so accomodating that we could just relax and enjoy our lunch. We liked the selection of wine per glass and found the curry portions to be generous however the grills were on the small side. We found everything to be fairly priced regardless the size. I was just a little disappointed with my Dahl dish that lacked a bit of a 'decisive taste' but loved all the other dishes with samosas being a real surprise.

Tamarind was ok, certainly nothing to complain about, but ambience lacking, food overpriced and cocktails nothing special. Some of the food was amazing (sea bass) but other dishes not so good (crab cakes). Service was ok but certainly didn’t feel spoilt! At £350 for 4 people (including 2 cocktails & one bottle of wine), there are better places to spend your money.

It would be nice to have more vegetarian choices.
For cocktails please try to avoid plastic straws ( environment friendly option)

Thank you

First visit since the alterations and nothing to disappoint from this well respected and seemingly time-less top notch Mayfair restaurant
All aspects at the top of their game and the extra floor a lighter and more day time feel for even more occasions to suit

One of the best Indian meals I have had. The street food for starters was authentic and the mains simply delicious. The only downside is the price of alcohol is totally unreasonable - 20 pounds a pint. I know it is Mayfair but still. Basically, I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anybody but just don't drink anything!

My favorite restaurant in London and a must visit. We have clients who arrive from all over the world and beg for the food. The longer tasting menu ranges from addictive “street food” appetizers, tandoori’s and incredible curries to nit crusted lamb to amazing dal, rice and naans. The vegetarian menu was also a hot and they were accommodating of a person with a severe nut allergy.
Truly a fabulous meal

Nice redo of the restaurant. Upstairs is pretty. But great letdown on the food. Very watery lentils. Lamb chops swamped with pistachios. Crab cakes tasteless. Service was good. Wine excellent. So lots of work to do!

Excellent food - great taste and presentation.

The service was good, except the waiter insisted we order more. It wasn’t needed.

I was really looking forward to this as I was taking my parents for a meal.

However, the service was slow and I had to constantly prop up to get attention. The waiter didn’t explain the small plates very well and as a result our table bought twice as many starters as was explained.

We also asked to have our food prepared more mild than usual, and unfortunately it was made hotter than usual!

Not a great experience overall.

It was a booking made on reputation and we weren’t disappointed. It was quite simply the best Indian feed we’ve ever eaten. We were a party that included pescatarians and the menu was a delight for us all. Our advice would be to go for a range of grills rather than go for the traditional curry. The scallops, sea bass, tandoori prawns and crispy lobster were out of this world. Service was great and although it’s a bit pricey, it’s an absolute must!!!

Very enjoyable evening. Excellent attentive and friendly service. We took the gourmet set meal which I would probably not select next time. The dishes were tasty and very well presented but it was not particularly good value for money and I think we would have done better choosing from the a la carte menu. I would return.

We were impressed with Tamarind. The atmosphere was very convivial and staff were friendly. The street -food first course, black pepper chicken tikka, sea bass, lobster and lamb were delicious. The “main” courses less so but still very nice - much too generous portions however. And the wine is too expensive for the quality.
On the whole, though, we enjoyed it very much and would certainly recommend.

Food was great which explains its popularity. We were however very disappointed with (what we were told was) the sommelier, especially in a Michelin star restaurant. We ordered wine by the carafe as per his recommendation but instead of pouring a taste for it, he simply poured two glasses and walked away. At one point we had to ask one of the servers to go get the carafe. The somm was nowhere in sight nor was the carafe. Our food came out in rapid succession but the wine pairing did not. Some food was eaten cool as we waited for the wine. Also interesting the table next to us had the same wine suggested to them for the tasting menu and we ordered a la carte. Same wines suggested/served regardless what you’re eating? Overall the food was good and service somewhat attentive I’m surprised it’s a Michelin rated restaurant.

I’ve been to Tamarind before and had a completely different experience. This time the service was poor with long waits before we saw any food and then we asked where our food was, we were told that it comes out of the kitchen when they’re ready. Not exactly a professional way of dealing with customers who were clearly getting frustrated at the delay. The starters arrived one dish at a time 10 to 15 minutes between each one. When you have people in your party who can only eat certain things, this does not work as one person eats while the others don’t. We were left with empty glasses and no waiter to be seen. Eventually when we complained again, we had a change of waiter and everything got back to normal. Main courses arrived eventually and together and we were able to have some drinks as well. The food couldn’t be faulted, it was very good and the main reason we returned to this restaurant. Everyone has a bad day once in a while and this was definitely theirs. They did to be fair comp a couple of drinks and a desert, but still added a 12.5% service charge to the bill.
They need to have a good hard look at their service and think more about their customer’s expectations and raise the level of service to match those expectations and what they charge.

I can’t tell you how disappointing our experience was.
How on earth the Tamarind has held on to its Michelin Star is beyond me.

When we arrived we were shown to their very sad bar. Probably didn’t help that we had just come from the gorgeous Hide basement Bar!
The Tamarind bar area was so messy and chaotic and I had the pleasure of staring at napkins/ towels hung over their coffee machine? Really!!! Not what you expect from a Michelin Star Restaurant.

There were not many smiles amongst the bar staff and you could feel tension with the waiting staff.
Not long after we were shown to our wonderful table (that was how the waiting staff described it) the table was directly opposite a line of Dumb Waiter Lifts.
The noise levels here were on another extreme level so we asked for another table.
Happy to wait but really struggled to have a conversation as the noise levels in this restaurant were the worst I’ve ever experienced and this is due to the high number of groups they have at the same sitting.

We were finally taken to our table which was downstairs and again the high noise levels continued (big groups everywhere).
Numerous big groups at the same time completely change the ambience of a restaurant in a negative way.

We were hoping the food was going to be a positive distraction but sadly not... one word - mediocre -
I saved up for a long time to take my husband out on his birthday and I chose The Tamarind because it was a reputable Michelin Star Restaurant. It should have been a magical food experience.. with excellent service...Well it wasn’t.

The service was lacking.
Table next to us was complaining because the waiting staff had forgotten key elements ... the table next to them too ...a big group was also having problems.

What was going on in the kitchen? Not much attention to any details?

Honestly it really was an exhausting few hours.

Don’t waste your money!!!

Awesome food but ridiculously over priced, without regard for the USD exchange rate, considering the menu is presented as small plates and it was suggested we should order six things for two people. Over $200 USD.

Went there for my birthday been several times before and can only say the food is excellent, however I was a bit niggled that I got charged 5.00 for a pot of yoghurt which I asked for as the dishes that I ordered where extremely hot in spice. Would not have minded but the bill came to over 300.00 for two of us.
