About Talulla's

When you walk through the shadowed glass doors of Talulla's, an instant transformation begins to occur. Your mind and body begin to relax. Your ears pick up on the eclectic mix of music. Your eyes wonder around the walls, decorated in Turkish rugs; then the ceilings, scattered with warm, unique lighting pieces; then the floors... the dark, hardwood floors; and finally, across the plush seating areas, disguised by cushions and pillows and fabric leisurely draped around the frames.

We all agreed this was one of the best restaurant experiences we have had in a while!
We had such a good time. The food was fabulous - each and every dish. The service was exceptional. And the ambiance was so comfortable - Persian rugs on the wall and wooden
floors.

We would go back in a minute!

I was transported back to Sultan Ahmet District of Istanbul. Excellent, authentic Turkish cuisine, which is one of the world's best. Our guests, who had never had Turkish cooking, were so pleased!

This is one of our favorites -- inexpensive enough for everyday but also wonderful for special occasions. And our grandkids love it too!

Good food and friendly service! The dining area does feel a little cramped, but it's still a nice, cozy place to have a good meal.

My husband and I had dinner here for the first time two nights ago (a Saturday). We were seated at a wonderfully romantic table in the corner, a couple of steps above the main dining floor. We ordered ground lamb/ground beef dumplings as an appetizer. They were outstanding. As was the complimentary bread with a most fantastic perhaps red-pepper & oil dip to accompany. For dinner, my husband had the lamb shank and I had a shaved lamb dish. The names were authentic and not something I could pronounce, so apologies for not naming them properly in this review. Both meals were excellent. The lamb was SO tender and flavored wonderfully. The only downside was the Turkish coffee at the end. It had TONS of coffee grounds in every single sip. I could not finish it. I Googled Turkish coffee while trying to get through it. It's supposed to have some grounds at the bottom, but not the entire cup. Aside from that, it was a great experience. Oh yes -- parking is a problem in this area. All of the street parking spots were gone. We parked in a small lot that seemed to belong to an auto repair shop on the corner. There was no place to pay for parking here so we were very nervous the whole dinner that we'd have a ticket or be towed. Luckily, no problems.

We are from Turkey, and many in the family are gourmet cooks/foodies. Talulah's is really authentic and delicious, it never disappoints.

Tallulah's is one of our favorite local restaurants, and this evening was no exception. The Turkish cuisine is as good as we've had anywhere in the country. Tables are sufficiently separated to allow for a conversation without your neighbor in your lap. Even though it's on Franklin Street, free valet parking is right in front.

We went to Talulla's for Christmas dinner because it was one of only a few restaurants open in our area. We were pleasantly surprised by what a great experience we had! We ordered off of a prix fixe menu, and found all of the food to be exceptionally good. Though we had never been to Talulla's before (we live in Durham), I imagine we will make the drive to Chapel Hill again in the near future!

I've been to Turkey and enjoyed the food there, but not at Talulla's. The lamb was the best thing we had, but it was very fatty. Both the anchovies and the vegetable dumplings had little taste. The anchovies came with a pretty salad though. I was especially disappointed because it is rated so highly.

Great Thanksgiving pre fixe menu with excellent wine pairings. A lot of fun and maybe a new tradition!

We went for Thanksgiving Dinner. They had a Pre-Fix menu, and it was really interesting. It was advertised as a "Turkish Inspired" Thanksgiving meal, but really, it was just a Turkish Meal. My gluten free boyfriend had the salad (which was amazing), the lamb (which was fork tender), and a chocolate custard (which was very good!). I had the fritters (great), the fish (it was OK, but because it was cooked on the grill and then baked in pastry, it was VERY smoky) and the baklava (awesome!). We also had the wine pairings, which were very good! We would go back for another meal, given the chance!

I made a reservation on Open Table and when we arrived They had our reservation, but didn’t have our table set up. They scrambled to find a table for 2 for us. The service was marginal, slow and our waiter was less than attentive, giving us minimal attention. The food was good and well prepared. The portions were small for the price. The noise level was high and it wold be difficult if you were hearing impaired.

We booked a table for nine for a business meal and had a great time. The server was very knowledgeable and helpful. She recommended a sample platter of cold mezas and put together a platter of warm mezas as well that were excellent. I had the Mediterranean sea bass fish special which was light, flaky with a wonderful smoky quality. Very flavorful. I had a flan-like desert that was very good, but others ordered a chocolate mousse that they said was divine. The Turkish coffee came in ornate little brass enclosed cups with lids and seemed authentic, though it was only the second time I had Turkish coffee, so I'm not the best judge. Overall, we had a very enjoyable meal and could just focus on enjoying our companions.

Great atmosphere. We made a reservation and got to sit in one of the "window" seats. Good menu selection, especially for vegetarians, but plenty of options for omnivores too. The Turkish coffee and desserts are a must try.

I have heard great things about Talulla’s from several friends. We went for dinner before a play. We were impressed. We told the server we had limited time and she stayed mindful of that during our service. We are all unfamiliar with traditional Turkish food. She was helpful in describing the dishes to us. We enjoyed both the Turkish apricot juice and the Turkish tart cherry juice. We tried a variety of menu items. Three appetizers and two entrees between the three of us. Everything was made fresh and delicious. The bread was served warm with a nice olive oil & tomato dipping sauce. We ended up with enough to take home for lunch the next day.

The curtained alcoves with tables and benches provide a cozy, intimate dining space for a special evening. The decor evokes Old World Turkey, with rugs and tapestries and lanterns in rich colors, great for a romantic evening or respite from the pressures of contemporary life. The dishes are nourishing and delicious, with organic and locally-sourced ingredients, and with a wonderful array of vegetarian options. The desserts are unique and wonderful; I recommend the Kunefe, baked with Hatay cheese and mulberry extract. Our server was exceptionally helpful.

We took our college-aged grandson to the restaurant and shared several appetizers and two main dishes. We all agreed that every bite was delicious! I have some dietary restrictions, and the server dealt with those without any difficulty and was quite helpful. The atmosphere is conducive to conversation. We'll return and try more dishes!

I hadn't eaten at Talullah's in years and didn't like it then, so when a friend recommended it I was hesitant. I am so glad we went! There is a new owner since then and the food was incredible. It's always been a beautiful place, but now it is a wonderful dining experience as well.

Tallulah’s is a wonderful Turkish restaurant. Food is tasty, service is good, bread is delicious. Only negative was the mussakah which was runny and disappointing even though flavor was fine. Salmon was excellent as were the appetizers. A definite “very good” on the evaluation scale. Service also was responsive and customer oriented.
