TAKA Mayfair
Executive Chef, Taiji Maruyama, and his team use their classical training to capture the essence of Japanese tradition and create a menu that is unique, seasonally changing and focuses on utilizing local ingredients and flavours. By supporting local and sustainable produce and having a farm-to-table approach, the menu combines traditional Japanese techniques with the best of British produce such as aged Ikejime fish from Scottish and Cornish fishermen and local Japanese wasabi from Hampshire.
Maruyama’s renowned homemade creations bring an unrivalled taste to the dishes on the menu. From yohei red vinegar made by a three-year fermentation, Sake Lee, home-made soy sauce and own blended Japanese rice for Sushi all for a truly unique dining experience.

Worst experience ever. Avoid.
We went for my birthday 4 of us food was fine but they added £250 of items to our bill doubling the bill for our family of 4. Utterly shocking had to send the bill back twice to get it corrected and no apology. Utter rip off
Excellent food let down by very poor service. Long waiting times between courses, unattentive staff, mistakes on the bill.
This was our third visit to TAKA, our last being in May 2019. The venue is small and there was no attempt at spacing tables to ensure social distancing was maintained. The staff wore masks, but I did notice that a nearby table vacated during our meal was only given a cursory wipe down on the surface as opposed to a thorough clean. Hopefully these parts of my review will soon become irrelevant!
The food is delicious, but don't go hungry as the portions are tiny (sushi/sashimi/nigiri are not designed to fill a hungry tummy!) and elegantly presented. We were there to celebrate our daughter's birthday, so it was a treat. Dishes we ordered included the Chef's sampler, a dragon roll, the wagyu steak and two delicious puddings - the chocolate rice cake and the duck egg ice cream with charcoal meringue. I would recommend to others if you are in the area and fancy treating yourself.
Overall good and good value, friendly service. Just one note, staff really could do with educating on how to wear a mask...
Great food and ambience, service. Staff top notch. Very friendly and personal. Totally recommend.
The food was excellent, however our experience overall was a little uncomfortable as the restaurant was packed and there was absolutely no social distancing between tables. This was after lockdown and we were expecting adequate precautions from the restaurant. They were kind to offer us free dessert on account of our discomfort but it did not resolve the issie
Exceptional food - tasting menu was out of this world!
Great service - super attentive staff.
Will definitely go back
Thank you for your amazing review, We are glad you enjoyed your autumn kaiseki tasting menu and are looking forward to seeing you again in the near future. Team Taka
Only thing I would say is that the lighting is quite dim, especially for pictures if you don’t want your flash to bother other diners. Other than that, the food and service is 5/5!
Good food although dishes could have been presented less fussy...
No need for a tuna vertebrae to be the garnish for instance!
I booked this restaurant for my birthday celebration as had eaten here before and really enjoyed it. My dining companion was on time though I was 10 minutes late in entering the venue as I had to take an important phone call and chose to do this outside so I didn’t disturb other diners. The Manager reprimanded me for being late (I felt like I was back in school) and he spent the remainder of our short time there reminding us how much time we had left to dine. He was also obviously stressed out and stressed us out with his attitude. In hind sight we should have left as soon as we arrived due to the unfriendly and unwelcoming atmosphere. The food here is very good but please be aware that if you dine here or go for a special occasion you will be under time pressure to eat quickly and leave. I ended up insisting on paying for my own dinner even though I was invited as I was very embarrassed with the whole experience and also paid the service charge which was automatically included which I should have disputed but didn’t want a further argument on my birthday. The most frustrating thing about our experience is that there were 4 empty dining seats beside us at the bar counter all through the evening which we would quite happily have moved to so we could stay longer. So the situation we experienced on the evening could have totally been avoided had the manager handled things differently. Instead we left very unhappy and disappointed and I ended up paying £155 for a birthday dinner I didn’t enjoy so I am sorry I chose this place and will not go back. It is a shame as I am passionate about the hospitality industry and want to support the industry as much as I can during this difficult time, but experiences like this make me think otherwise.
Creative view on Japanese classics. Just hands-down great restaurant that has amazing food and amazing service.
The worst Japanese food in London, over rated specials on the menu that were not to pleasing to eat and the sushi rolls rice was what I call Pulao Rice sushi rolls.
Second visit to this restaurant, was good before but they have managed to improve still, with some of the freshest and most delicious Japanese food I have had in London. Fatty tuna and Wagyu beef were amazing, and Richard was a great host with excellent menu suggestions. Can’t recommend Taka highly enough, will be returning very soon
Very delicious high end Japanese
Insane...must go
Great food, great service
Always have a great meal here. Can’t wait to come again
Great food. Great service. Quite pricey but definitely worth it. Thank you.
Service was absolutely amazing from the staff, food was delicious and I would definitely recommend 🥰
Great food and service. I would come back again.
My fiance and I wanted to try a new sushi restaurant. Taka was initially hard to find using google maps. The address and the location picture on google maps doesn't match up. That was our only issue. The dry-aged tuna was very flavorful. All of the sashimi was top quality and full of flavor. My fiance had the dragon roll but they were out of prawns so had a soft shell crab as a substitute. Each sushi roll we got was very fresh and full of flavors. I liked chilled saki which most of the saki on the menu was served. The matcha saki was a refreshing, mildly sweet, mildly sour...like a nice cool spiked lemonade. We ended dinner with an absolutely buttery, mouth-watering piece of wagyu beef. That really capped dinner for us.
Richard, the restaurant manager was an absolute delight. We spend time chatting about the restaurant and the transition it is going through and some of the plans. He brought out the chef. It was a pleasure and honor to meet him.
We had a great experience in addition to phenomanl food which is what we desire when we go out to a restaurant. I definitely recommend going for the sushi and the service.
Overall everything was amazing, but personally my friends and I found the edamame to be lacking in taste compared to other similar restaurants. For the rest, the food was outstanding.
Amazing sushi! Perfect evening
Always love coming to Taka for the fantastic food, excellent service and lovely ambiance!
I have been here twice now and is honestly 2x better than any other sushi restaurant in London. Especially given the price compared to the others. 10/10 can’t wait to come again!
Nice and fresh food. Recommend
Our second visit here, service was a bit slow, food is good but some of the portion sizes are very small for the money but that said this is a nice place to eat.
Had an absolutely fantastic dinner experience . I have been to the restaurant a few times and have always enjoyed the food , the ambiance and the service . Upon my last visit I was told that the menu had changed slightly . Our waitress , Aga , who was so helpful and attentive that we asked her name , took us through all the changed and recommended a few excellent dishes: the green salad , the salmon and the dragon roll ! She also helped us select the perfect sake to go with the dishes . All in all , extremely satisfied, as always .
Can not fault the service and the quality of the food but due to the narrow shape of the restaurant lack a bit of the buzz.
We were the only people in the restaurant and the food took forever. Food was fine but not amazing. Gyozas arrived cold, they were taken off the bill but given the price point it’s not really acceptable.
Lovely cute place! very small but intimate and cosy vibes. Deffo recommend for a date night.
Amazing ambiance, very calm and cozy. Food was great, sushi was super fresh!
Highly recommended !
My friend and I had a very enjoyable lunch . We had 2 dishes each , all of which were great ! The staff was extremely polite and attentive . Highly recommend this place for both casual meals and special occasions
Amazing food, impeccable service , great ambiance
It was nice.
Cute, date night experience!
Excellent service and I absolutely love the ambience! I saw pictures and immediately wanted to book this restaurant as it looked really cosy. The service was so friendly but mainly, the veg selection for a Japanese restaurant was brilliant. Will definitely be back!
Everything was great
