This was my first time to the restaurant and it will not be my last. It was fantastic. The service, quality, timing and presentation of the food and wine list was outstanding.
Excellent food and service (they helped me find terrific dishes that were dairy-free because of my allergy.)
Be aware they automatically add a 20% service fee that goes into a tip pool and ALSO have a space for a tip to your server.
Food was impeccable and delicious. Service was very good. Shout out to the sommelier Grabriele who was very helpful in recommending wines as well as wineries we could visit during our trip to Napa. We would highly recommend Spruce.
Food was delicious. Really enjoyed the special truffle pasta add-on option during our pre-fixed brunch. Our server was great, he had good recommendations and enjoyed his service.
Excellent food and service (and amazing wine list).
Overall, great experience. The service was fine, it wasn't bad but there's definitely some room for improvement there - one of the toilets in the ladies' room was messy and ran out of toilet paper (which isn't a big deal, but kind of surprising for a Michelin-starred restaurant). Also, we had to ask for our second serving of bread, and they forgot to refill our water around at the beginning of the meal. Also, they vigorously poured the water, and some fell out of the pitcher onto the tablecloth. Last, they served the dishes twice when someone in my party was absent from the table. For those reasons, I would say the service wasn't super polished (not really up to Michelin standard, in my opinion), but it was fine.
Along the same vein, the food was good, but I had a bit of an issue with the Padron peppers. One out of ten are spicy, and apparently I got all of the spicy ones. First, in my corn veloute and then in my entree. I can handle a little bit of spice, but in both dishes, the flavor of the peppers overpowered the dish, and it was difficult to enjoy the flavors of the meal. I told the waiter, and he was very apologetic. Padron peppers are good, but maybe they should use a different ingredient (or taste them in advance, especially because the peppers in the corn veloute were cut), or warn restaurant patrons when describing the dishes that the item could be spicy.
Great service! Great food! Can’t wait to come back on my next trip to San Francisco.
Our Prix Fixe three course meals were wonderful. Indoor and outdoor dining was available. The outdoor 'parklette' was one of the best I have seen.
Fabulous food and first rate service.
Taste combinations that are outstanding.....top notch ingredients......superb service.
Perfect dinner to celebrate a big birthday. Great service, amazing food.
The food was delicious, our waiter was attentive and witty, and the low noise level was especially appreciated.
Amazing staff and service. Only recommendation is the Open Table update the inside outside reservation. Second restaurant experience I have had lately with a mixup in outside/inside location. Confirmation was for outside on OT but restaurant showed inside- which was my preference. Thank you, Spruce. Will be back..
Food is always excellent with impeccable service.
Old stale bread, unprofessional service and overrated
Everything at spruce was incredible. From the warm welcome, service, quality of ingredients and the ambience. It’s now one of my favorite places! Dont change!
We went here for our 25th anniversary. From start to finish, it was a great experience. The wait staff was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and the service was efficient.
The good was great. Each of us had a corn velouté which was outstanding. It’s not often that a soup will be the thing I’ll remember years later, but this one was just stunning. For the main, I had pork with a summer succotash. I hardly ever eat pork away from home since most restaurants still overcook it like it’s 1970. This pork was cooked perfectly. As part of the preparation, they had the bone next to the sliced meat. I knew I was at a fine dining restaurant but the pork was so tasty, I picked up the bone and eat every possible bit of pork from it.
We shared a plate of pasta with truffles on top that was divine. Beignets for dessert which were solid also. Their wine list was unreal. It had to be 60 pages long.
All in all, we had a lovely time.
Majestic from beginning to end. I cannot wait to return….often!
Food and service flawless.
Beautiful menu, some things simple and elegant -sometimes a novelty these days, other offerings more elaborate but not overly fussy….just perfection,
Bland food, extremely overpriced. Nothing special about these dishes, it is solely something slightly adventurous for people who don’t really know about good food/flavour. The cocktails were well executed and the caviar service was a nice addition. Overall not worth the price. Our servers also didn’t tell us 20% tip was included on our bill and thus we accidentally tipped 40%. Very disappointing.
Excellent quality with superlative service. We loved the decor as well. An incredible dining experience!
Fantastic food. Good service once we got their attention. A little snobby at the front desk. The food made up for all of the deficiencies.
Just the loveliest place to meet a friend for lunch. The ambiance is elegant and quiet, the service is accommodating and attentive, and the food is absolutely delicious. Tip: order the beignets for dessert. You will not regret it.
Lunch on trip celebrating 30th Anniversary
Great place for the special occasions
The food was good, but we felt a little neglected by the wait staff and hostess. The menu offered a good variety, but for the money I would have rather gone back to Trestle- it was less expensive and better.
was a lovely experience and a lovely dinner. thank you.
excellent as always. looking forward to getting back there again soon
Enjoyed the ambience, dining experience and service.
Food was good. Overall experience was just ok. Customer service was just ok. I expected more with how much you pay for your dinner.
Genuinely the best meal I have ever had! I didn't know you could do that to food. The patio is lovely, the staff are professional, and again, the food is out of this world.
Three people. $600. Mediocre food.
The restaurants ambience was very nice, service was excellent, food was good…..noise level was moderate in the dining room probably attributed the the ceding design and the resulting acoustics…..a piano player would have been a wonderful addition .
Although the two hosts made us wait for 20 minutes to get our table ready even though we have reservations ( 2 parties came after us and they got seated right away) the food was excellent and that’s what we were there for. We didn’t allow those 2 to dampen our spirits. Our server Kimball was very accommodating and non pretentious. Overall we enjoyed our dinner with some fun and laughter on the side.
Seated outside, delicious food well-seasoned and carefully prepared and presented, we loved the dining experience! The heirloom melon was light and colorful and sweet and tart and savory. The pasta with chanterelles and corn was gorgeous and tasty. The best best best beignets, perhaps in or out of New Orleans was a wonderful finish to the meal.
Spruce lived up to its reputation to serve top notch seasonal contemporary California cuisine with an impressive wine list, service and atmosphere, all for a moderate prix fixe menu price. Memorable dishes included the strawberry foie Gras terrine, corn agnolotti, lobster pasta, pork chop and Black Forest cake.
Music odd for a lovely room with serene decor. I asked the music to be turned down but the music choice would be better in a sports bar.
The crude was excellent and thdd red pasta with truffles but the hamburger was ordinary.
The food was really good, but maybe not matching the price point. The scallops and pork were excellent but the duck breast was slightly more done than I preferred. There was a heavy emphasis on wine, which I don't enjoy drinking. The place was very nicely lit, slightly dim but easy to see the menu. Conversations were hushed, which gave it a very upscale ambiance, though I prefer a slightly more lively place that didn't take it self as seriously. Our waiter was all serious business, making the experience less welcoming than I had hoped.
Service and food are excellent. The outdoor seating is comfortable and secure. It is a pricey restaurant.
The class and quality play a big game at Spruce! Quite the culinary experience. Just beautifully delicious! Not enough words to describe my foodie heaven trip at spruce!
They went beyond hospitality to make my birthday celebration (and al the holidays we missed last year) an unique experience!
Food was excellent, and the service was superb! The only negative remark I would have is that the waiting staff mentions at the end that a 20% service charge is included to be divided amongst the staff as a tip But then when you get the receipt you are still asked to tip. I was confused about if I needed to tip extra on top of the 20%, and how much.
