This is the second time I've been back to Spruce in 6 months. Both times the service was awful. There is such a huge time delay getting food. We sat there for ever waiting. Reservation was at 5:30 and didn't leave until almost 9. And waiting for the wait staff to bring the valet the ticket took a lifetime as well. Exact same experience in 6 months. Not going back.
Everything with this restaurant was exceptional. Service was great, menu was varied with several different options and the wine list was vast. I will definitely return when I am visiting the city.
So great! Love the burger, cocktails and truffles!
THE FOOD WAS EXCEPTIONAL EXCEPT MY DUCK CAME OUT RARE. I WASN'T ASKED BY THE WAITER HOW I LIKE IT REPAIRED, AND DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO SEND IT BACK. (GOING TO BALLET). OTHERWISE, THE SERVICE WAS BETTER THAN I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED. OVERALL, MY TOTAL EXPERIENCE WAS A TEN+
This was a girl’s lunch to celebrate a birthday. We had heard good things from a friend about Spruce and were eager to try. Reservations were at 2pm and we anticipated we would be able to linger. We probably should have gotten the hint when the waiter started ironing the table cloth next to us before our food arrived.
We ordered soup it was cold. The burger ordered medium was rare. We sent both back. The gem salad was quite nice, sized for a post holiday diet at $17.00 and the sparking water was $10. To be fair they brought a bite of birthday cake and candle for my friend and comped us the donut holes which were warm and delicious.
The waiters started circling after dessert was delivered and thanked us- profusely. By the third “ thank you”. I acknowledged I got the hint and we would leave. I wouldn’t have stayed for a coffee at that point if they paid me.
My advice to them. -close the reservations if you need to iron the laundry and if you don’t want your guests staying more than an hour. Don’t pour warm soup in a cold bowl, and if it offends your sensibility to cook a medium burger, have the curtesy to say that directly. It’s too bad, the restaurant is elegantly opulent and the woman who greeted us was gracious and welcoming. Unfortunately it set expectations that were not met.
Lovely place to be pampered with excellent food and service. So nice to be in an ambience where the low noise level encourages conversation.
My favs duck confit and beignets.
excellent burger. excellent martini. impeccable service.
Food was terrible
The setting is sophisticated, the noise level isn’t too bad for a San Francisco restaurant, the food was quite delicious, and the staff are attentive, without being too attentive. The wine list is incredibly extensive, and a bit intimidating, but there’s a sommelier to help you manage it. The clientele were mostly dressed like slobs, but that’s San Francisco for you.
Incredible restaurant year in, year out. One can make it a casual or celebratory experience. The service is always excellent, with many of the staff having been there for years.
Exceptional wine list as well.
What is to be expected from the Bacchus Management Group- Village Pub and Spruce being my favorite go to option!
Excellent service in a lovely space. Food is very good but not particularly avant garde.
The duck was amazing!! I will be thinking of that dish for many weeks to come. Server could have been more personable. However, appreciated the hosts and their kind demeanor. Ran out of Nolet’s gin which was disappointing. Overall, worthwhile though.
Fantastic meal! Every aspect of the dining experience was great!
This restaurant had a good hamburger but expensive, portion of steak was so small.
Outstanding food, outstanding service, A joyful meal.
We enjoyed the creative fresh and delicious food. Our server Lia was delightful! The restaurant is warm beautifully appointed and we loved the funky music keeping the atmosphere from being too serious. A very special evening for us. Thank you!
Christmas Eve dinner was wonderful. What a great place to spend the evening.
I've been to Spruce many times now and I think it's one of the prettiest rooms in the city. The service is wonderful, friendly but professional. This visit I had a risotto unlike anything I've ever had before - fantastic! I tell anyone interested about this restaurant, and I work in a hotel :) !!
👍🏻 nice evening
First time there, we were celebrating my daughter’s birthday and it was perfect!
Great .... to get a ladies luncheon and celebrating a birthday!
Always love our family dinners at Spruce!
A gem! Wonderful experience for eating, drinking and enjoy friendship with companions Truly an excellent experience.
An incredible food and drink experience. One of the best in the city and a reasonable price for what it is. We’ll remember this meal for a long time
$$$$ but worth it. Good brunch with good atmosphere.
the quality of the food did not match up to the ambience, vibe and the price.
several vegetarian options (we ordered a combination of meats and vegetarian) below average food in both categories
Sorry we spent $100 each on a white truffle shave that we could not even taste! We have done this in the past at other restaurants and have been So pleased with the result
Not tonight. No flavor and a $200 + bill
New baby was welcomed
The ambiance was really nice and relaxing. We were welcomed right away after we entered the restaurant. Customer service was excellent and the food was very delicious.
I think it might have been the best meal of our lives. I was expecting a traditional steakhouse experience but was blown away by the unique flavors of each dish. Everything was mouth watering and delicious.
Food and service was good but didn’t get seated until almost half an hour after our reservation. Main course also took ~25 min after our appetizer course. They did comp us with free cocktails which was nice.
We have dined at Spruce many times inthe past. The restaurant wasfestively decorated for the holidays.
There was a prolonged wait for the cocktail orderandthe glasses were small. The appetizer was ok butthey
forgot to offer an amuse guele. When reminded, corredcted that. We both had the duck ($51) which came with a puree of turnips and some grapes. The duck was correctly cooked. We had a half bottle of good Pinot Noir. It was quite dark but we could converse with each other ok. Overall a pricey restaurant with an odd plating of the duck. Used to be better.
Our main server was wonderful as was the sommelier, but the support staff mixed up the orders which is certainly manageable but one expects more from a starred restaurant and those prices. Our Duck dish was fabulous and perfectly cooked. the gnocchi was excellent, with a wonderful rich sauce. the cocktails were also quite good. The little gem salad sounded better than it tasted.
Excellent food and the service was great as always.
Near perfection: elegant but friendly, inviting, delicious, welcoming, delightful. We will be back.
Everything and everyone was superb! And what a treat to hear Christmas music, truly festive!
Their Sunday brunch is prix fix painfully overpriced
Will not return.
Worth the price. Amazing food, presentation and service. Drinks were perfection. My favorite place to go to when in San Francisco.
