We had dinner during restaurant week. The restaurant was extremely crowded. Despite having reservations we waited 55 minutes to be seated. Food was OK but not as expected given the great reviews. They have a nice wine list at reasonable prices. Service was just fair, they were in a rush as they were extremely busy and short staffed. One of our friends ended up with the food on top of her clothes as the waitress drop the plate while serving. We had to wait another 30 minutes for the replacement meal to arrive. The food was cold. I was told Sotto Sopra doubles the number of seats during restaurant week. It certainly looked like that... I would not recommend Sotto Sopra during restaurant week.
Pros: Delicious meal with wonderful server. Pork ossobuco with risotto was wonderful.
Cons: Very crowded and very noisy. About 4” between tables set long-wise the length of the room so there was NO privacy. Noice level was extreme.
Given that it was restaurant week, I anticipated a delay, but we had to wait around for one hour before our table was ready. Poor planning by the restaurant
An lovely culinary experience! Food, service & ambience were all 1st class. Only complaint was with the wine list - least expensive bottle was $39 and I believe there was only one of these (reds). There are so many really good wines at reasonable prices today, they should offer some choices in the upper 20s and low 30s. I would love to go back, but I can't imagine dinner without wine and they do not offer any in a reasonable price range.
Love it, love it, love it! Went for the first time for a work dinner and would really like to take my husband back for a romantic dinner. The restaurant is beautiful and authentic Italy. And the food was phenomenal. I couldn't recommend it more highly!
From a long time fan of Sotto Sopra -- always a great choice, no matter what the occasion ...or even lack of occasion.
we went to sotto sopra for anniversary , I may a note went I made the reservation that we were for our anniversary and remembered, which was really nice. ps our waitress was great!!!
Derek was exceptional! Great food and great experience! Thank you!
Fabulous atmosphere and great food. Always an excellent experience.
We had 8:30 reservations for NYE. These reservations were made at the end of November. We arrived a few minutes before 8:30 and were not seated until 9:20. There were plenty of other people waiting for their reservations as well and in such a small space, things were quite cramped. One of the hostesses (long dark hair) seemed so overwhelmed she didn’t offer any consolation for those of us (or anyone else) waiting. We even had to re-check in after we had been there for a while.
Once we were seated our server was wonderful and the food was delicious. The server and the bus boy gave us several complementary items for our long wait, which was nice. Once we were seated, it was near perfection, but the 50 minute wait for our table despite a reservation was very disappointing.
We went for New Years. It was crowded but everyone was pleasant. Food was excellent.
Our annual New Years Eve visit was excellent as always. We love this place and will return soon.
I made reservations here for the night of New Years Eve. I arrived with my date and the place was all but full of other people out enjoying the holiday. We were quickly sat and shortly after greeted by our server who had great knowledge of the menu & specials. We shared the Salmon Tar Tar as an appetizer which was very good. I had the Pan Seared Halibut which was excellent along with a gin cocktail that was tasty. After our meal we split the Chocolate Pistachio Creme Brulet which was maybe my favorite part of the meal. For being a very busy evening, all of our drinks and dishes were served in a very timely manner.
Excellent waiter. Ambiance was lovely, but too dark.
Very good last dinner of the year. Great food; reasonable prices; and nice drinks.
My husband and I visited the restaurant after an event in Baltimore that was near by. We were seated immediately after we checked in for our reservation. We had the calamari and tomato soup for starters which was excellent. Everything we ate was fresh and prepared to perfection. Can’t wait to go back!
One of my favorite "go to" restaurants when visiting downtown. Their suggestions based on our preferences were spot on. The pavlova on special was outstanding with a unique presentation!
We dined at Soto Sopra pre-theatre and as usual they did not disappoint. Service was excellent, the pasta was superb, and we had a three course meal without feeling rushed or anxious about making the curtain.
It was a rare quiet night at Sotto Sopra. I even found parking directly in front. Wonderful waitress Amanda. Beet salad good. Branzino fantastic and my son had boar ravioli which he said was great too. Great wine and drinks. Desserts good. Nice quiet eve.
romantic quiet setting, and wonderful service lead to fantastic birthday dinner. oh, and the food was fantastic.
Fabulous Baltimore Italian mainstay; great service and cozy atmosphere; ordered the cioppino and the osso bucco and both dishes where top notch; restaurant was beautifully decorated for Christmas and we had a lovely dinner; When we are in Baltimore again we will definitely return.
Katie was an incredible server and the food was amazing.
Food was great, service was fantastic. I genuinely believe the food was the best me and my husband ever had! Seating was very limited and we arrived about 15 mins early. The was no room at the bar so we had to wait in the cold.
Christmas dinner with my family was amazing thanks to Sotta Sopra! The attention to detail was unparalleled and their passion for food and service evident in each course. Bravo!
Sotto Sopra is a small restaurant, so the tables are closely packed. The restaurant was full when we were there on Christmas day. It's clear they aim to turn over the tables several times each evening because the service was very prompt. We never felt rushed, but our appetizers, entrees and dessert arrived much more quickly than I expected. The wait staff was attentive and efficient. (If we had been ordering alcohol perhaps the time would have been stretched out a bit.) The food was quite good and the servings were ample.
Went for the first time for my birthday dinner and then came back with my parents for Christmas. This place is fantastic!
Exquisite restaurant with great service and impeccable food!
Our family tradition has been Christmas Day late afternoon dinner at Sotto Sopra. Food and service were excellent, as always. We come earlier in the day because some parties like to linger which can tie up tables for later reservations.
The salmon was undercooked. The veal saltimbocca was very good, as were the salads and the dessert. One of our salads was served without the shaved Parmesan cheese—the waiter said he would bring some to the table—but he forgot and we had to remind him, but then two of us had our appetizer salads sitting in front of us while the third was waiting for the cheese. Then the kitchen staff brought our entrees while we were still working on the appetizers, so they brought the entrees back to the kitchen and put them under warming lights until we finished the appetizers. It seems like there could have been better attentiveness and communication on the part of staff.
I brought my mom and boyfriend to Sotto Sopra for Christmas dinner and the entire experience was amazing. My mom is in a wheel chair and they accommodated her seamlessly. Our waiter David was a gem, extremely attentive but not too much. The food as usual was spectacular and we all had very different dishes, from seafood to chicken to veal. They did not have the wine I wanted but found a similar (and even better one) and helped on the price a bit, not necessary but very kind. Sotto Sopra will continue to be one of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore and I can't wait to go back!
We have now established the tradition of Sotto Sopra for Christmas dinner, and we have never been disappointed with seating, service or meal. Outstanding!
Excellent food! The pasta was delicious, and best salmon I had in Maryland!
This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Baltimore, which is saying something. Great food. Wine list is OK but markup is typically 2.5-3X retail which is a bit annoying. No sommelier when I was there so had to rely on waitstaff who have limited knowledge. We went on Christmas Eve as we have before. Very festive and packed and they schedule very tightly so do not expect your table on time. Service suffers a bit when this busy. But still a fun night.
A wonderful Christmas Eve meal. Unfortuntely we had to wait 40 minutes for our table and the same thing happened a year ago because they overbook. However, it is a wonderful place to go.
Terrific service as usual.
We went on Christmas Eve . It was nice that Sottto was open. The place was very busy but everything was perfect. Ricardo has a great staff. Their food and service never disappoints.
One of my favorites in Baltimore.
We were dinning on Christmas Eve. I made our reservations way in advance. 3 days prior to our reservations we received a call stating there was a 2 hr max. We felt our dinner was rushed left with indigestion. We dine out every Christmas Eve and have never been told we had to be done in 2 hours. Although our food was good Our bill was very high for pasta dishes
Had a wonderful grown-up night before Christmas Eve. Staff is friendly, but not overly so.
Food was delicious. 2 people split a salad, and each plate looked like it could have been one whole order. Enjoyed every minute.
We had an amazing and delicious anniversary dinner!
Underwhelmed. The atmosphere was great but I didn't like how close the tables were to each other b/c it is uncomfortable to hear other diner's conversations and vice versa. Very few gluten free options. That tends to be a problem at Italian restaurants.
The sauces and risotto are the best I have ever tasted.
Service is great also.
