Second time I've eaten here and the food was excellent. Bon appetit!
Soto was surprisingly good food. In a city where a new restaurant opens everyday, this one will last. Great food. Not one item I did not like or would not order again. Fried Calamari is the critical test. Cook it too long, not good. The Calamari at Soto was cooked to perfection. Dinner was great, and the service was excellent. Will definitely go back.
Service was outstanding
Our meals were excellent - squid ink pasta!!
A very enjoyable evening
Everything about Sotta Sopra is perfect!
Service was good and the food was prepared well. I typically don't order dessert, but felt inspired to order a chocolate lava cake. It capped an excellent meal.
The service was excellent. The food was good.
Dinning room was too dark to really see colors of the food and appreciated the presentation.
Met and, exceeded my expectations on,all levels.
This was the perfect romantic spot for an important second date! The staff was excellent, friendly, knew when to help us and when to hang back.
This is a quaint Italian bistro in just off downtown Baltimore district. Very old school in appearance but the staff was very attentive and accomodating and the food was very good. We certainly enjoyed it and would recommend it to others.
We were there for our Anniversary and were very pleased to have the best seat in the house for Opera Night. They even sang some Coloratura so I was very pleased. The food was delicious. It was a perfect evening.
Opera night is a singular event representing outstanding valu
We sat at the bar, and our server/bartender was fantastic!
Sotto Sopra has wonderful ambience and a fantastic menu. Not too loud and didn’t feel crowded even though almost every table was full. Great service as well!
Wonderful spot for special lunch gathering!
We had a wonderful time celebrating our anniversary. The service was amazing and they were so personable and acknowledged our anniversary and the surprise my husband had for me. The food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our time.
Excellent as usual! We are never disappointed. I am always excited to see the specials on the menu.
One of the best meals this year
They took us although we were nearly a half hour late for lunch. The three of us had both salmon preparations; both were outstanding. Panna cotto was exquisite. Coffee very good. Service totally wonderful. Can't recommend Sotto Sopra enough. I've been there for lunch and date night and have sent business groups--all excellent experiences. One of my business groups said this is now the best Italian restaurant in the city.
It was our third anniversary and they treated us like royalty. This is and has been my favorite restaurant in Baltimore for a decade and it NEVER disappoints! I'll will be back for Opera night next Sunday!
Sotto Sopra is the restaurant we choose to celebrate special occasions. Tonight, we came to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and they went all out for us. We were treated to exceptionally flavorful modern Italian cuisine in a beautiful setting. We felt like we were dining in Italy! Patrick, our server, and Maciej, his assistant, took such excellent care of us. They really knew how to make us feel special. Lindsey, the manager, came by to offer her good wishes – such a nice touch. They paid attention to every detail to insure that we had a great dining experience. We started with two appetizers, the Goat Cheese Salad (arugula, baby beets, shaved fennel, goat cheese fritters in a tangerine dressing) and the Sotto Sopra Flatbread (3 pieces of flatbread topped with mozzarella, provolone, arugula and prosciutto). Both were fresh and delicious. My husband had the Honey Lavender Salmon (pan seared Salmon with sautéed broccolini lobster gremolata and mashed potatoes). The salmon was cooked just as he requested. I had the Fettuccine con ragu di Osso Bucco – my dish was loaded with meat. For dessert, my husband enjoyed the Chocolate Molten Cake with fresh berry sauce and vanilla bean gelato. The finishing touch was the Birthday gelato with fresh strawberries and a lit sparkler. We can’t tell you how much we enjoyed our dinners.
I went there for my 50th birthday celebration. I didn't really want to go, but our out of town guest wanted to go back. The food was good as always, but I was pretty disappointed with the level of service we got at a 5:30 on a Sunday night. Twice we had to ask somebody to find our waiter. We didn't even have dessert. Nobody wanted to wait. Considering the restaurant was half empty at that point, it makes no sense.
Food, service and ambiance were perfect. Loved it!
We been to Sotto Sopra many times over the years, and we are fortunate enough to dine on some of the finest Italian cuisine in Baltimore. Notwithstanding the fantastic food, which is always creative, fresh, demonstrating its Northern Italian roots, the service is always exemplary. Amanda was our waitress, and she was knowledgeable, courteous, and prompt; I that we are seated with her again in the future. The cocktail list was creative, and I enjoyed the Sangiovese that was the weekly special, greatly. All in all, I cannot wait to visit again soon. Lastly, this visit was to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday... the staff recognized the occasion, but in a very tasteful, polite manner.
We stayed at the Embassy Suites for my niece’s rehearsal dinner and wedding and Embassy recommended your restaurant. Easy walk, fantastic waitress, loved the ambience, but the young guy that delivered our pumpkin soup didn’t know what table to deliver it to. He then walked to the back of the restaurant and returned again still not knowing who got the soup. So I said to him “Is that pumpkin soup” and he then walked over to us with the soup. We had no soup spoons so as he was walking away we asked him for 2 spoons. The soup was delicious, but it was not very warm, almost room temp. That is our only complaint.
The whole Peter Beets jazz evening was fantastic in every way, starting with the quick, polite valet parking. Superb service, great drinks from the Moscow Mule variation to the fine wine to the Strega and Caffe Correto (Grappa), fine food such as the squid ink pasta, the duck and Fois Gras tostada, the delicate light homemade gnocchi, the warm octopus salad, the cheese plate with Robiola and honey and other accompaniments — and add to that the utter delight of listening to the Netherlands jazz pianist Peter Beets and his equally talented bass player — and you have the perfect evening. All of our party of four left saying, “We’ll be back very soon!” And we will!
Lili and her staff were wonderful. Mike the bartender knows how to my a Perfect Rob Roy.
Great food, great service. Would definitely go back.
The bar, kitchen and staff are excellent. Can’t wait to return for our next occasion.
Never disappoints - great food, atmosphere, ambiance.
The two course lunch special at Sotto Sopra always provides a wide selection and a good value. The servings are generous. The snails and polenta are a personal favorite.
Consistently excellent, I took co-workers to Sotto Sopra to celebrate a job well done and once again the restaurant did not disappoint. Our server, Katie, was fantastic as was Jose. The service here is always the perfect mix of steady professionalism, attention to detail and friendliness. The food was terrific. In my view, the house-made pastas are the best in Baltimore. The salads were fresh and well-balanced and the drinks and wine were spot-on. My colleagues were also impressed and happy to learn of what they called a hidden gem--though the restaurant has been a downtown mainstay for quite some time. Cheers to a job well done!
Early evening dinner prior to a show- quiet night before holiday weekend. Excellent food. Attentive, unobtrusive service. We will return to this place, one of our favorite spots for special occasions in Baltimore
Delightful evening with family. Raw salmon appetizer was amazing. All of ordered pasta entrees and we shared bites-all were tasty, unique and pefectly seasoned Desserts and cheeses were excellent except pot de creme which was good but not quite chocolatey enough. We intend to return next time we are in Baltimore! Thank you!
We went to celebrate our anniversary for Opera night after having gone their earlier in the year to celebrate a birthday. Needless to say, we loved it the first time and that is why we came back.
This review is specifically for our Opera Night experience.
Drinks: We got a couple of cocktails and both were really well made.
Opera: Incredible experience, we absolutely loved watching and listening to Paul, Karen and Tom perform.
Food: It was a prix fix 5 course (salad, risotto, sorbet, salmon entree and dessert) menu for $62/person. Picture of the menu is included. The salad and salmon for us were the 2 best dishes of the 5. The salad would've been even nicer with some crunch (pine nuts, walnuts etc.) and to help cut the acidity. The risotto was okay..it would've been nice to have at least 2 of the courses feature some meat/seafood. The pear sorbet was a little too sweet for our liking. We really enjoyed the salmon entree but the asparagus was too soft/soggy almost. Obviously, we were excited about the apple tart dessert but were sorely disappointed and it kind of ended our experience on a 'not too sweet' note. It was quite chalky and dry...we left most of it uneaten.
Overall, the experience was nice. Would recommend going for opera night but would not recommend the dessert.
Great food!!! Wonderful staff!!! Love opera nights and broadway nights.
Good appetizers, but unfortunately it ends there. Besides putting cream in Carbonara which no Italian would do, it was quite disappointing to find most of the ravioli without a filling and the Zafferano Tagliatelle with no saffron at all. A manager tried to explain that Zafferano is not to be meant as the saffron ingredient (actually she didn't know it was spelled like that in Italian !?) but it refers to a company in Italy famous for it's porcelains who then gave the name to this type of pasta. Italian here, and never heard of such thing. Creative explanation however. This place used to be good up to a few years ago but it seems it went down hill lately, at least if you are looking for authentic Italian food
Everything was perfect. The honey lavender salmon was amazing.
I was somewhat disappointed in our meal. While our food was good, it wasn't as good as I thought it would be from the reputation I had heard about them. We were there to celebrate a special occasion, and I felt there was no added attention given to it. We were there for lunch, and for some reason, the host seated a majority of the larger groups all in the back of the restaurant, so there was no real ambiance to the dining experience. One party in our group ordered the lunch special salmon, and no lie, the portion of salmon wasn't as big as a playing card, that was VERY disappointing. This was a one-and-done experience, I think I would find other more worthy restaurants before I would go back.
