   We are regular diners with Shin Sei and it's our favorite sushi choice in Dallas. Last night was terrible. We arrived at 4:50 for our 5:00 reservation (had to be at the hospital later) and we sat at the sushi bar. Service was terrible; slow, didn't bring our drinks correctly, had to wait for anything prepared in the kitchen (as opposed to the items from the sushi bar which were fast, tasty and delivered with a smile). At 5:50 we asked for our waiter as we needed to go and were still waiting on two dishes. The dishes arrived immediately and the black cod was dry and the shrimp tempura was panko. Now in fairness, the waiter asked how we wanted the shrimp tempura prepared so that's how we ordered it but in all the years we've been dining at Shin Sei, we've never been asked how to prepare tempura. We normally order tempura shrimp and/or veggies at every sushi restaurant in a variety of cities and never has it come out other than tempura style. The restaurant wasn't busy buy we drew a bad waiter last night.

   It’s was our anniversary. The staff was attentive, professional and made our night very special. The food and environment was amazing.

   We had a reservation for 2, the hostess tried to seat us at an after-thought-table squeezed between two other tables near the walkway and an exterior door. We asked to seat elsewhere and were sat in the bar area, all was good except the slower than ideal service.
