Seven Steakhouse Sushi & Rooftop

I had not been to Seven for a very long time and sadly it felt like a tired restaurant. They are not a cheap place to eat at and yet it feels as if they cut corners. If I am going to pay $14 for an Old Fashion than at least use Luxardo cherries. They provide these wonderful biscuits and the butter is flavorless. The presentation of the sushi was wonderful but the fish was subpar. Our server was fabulous and directed us away from menu items that had been sent back to the kitchen, so I really appreciated that. They have a great location which will probably keep them around for a while but they are no longer the restaurant I remember them to be.
We ordered steak and the halibut fish special at our table. The steak plate came out and the fish didn’t. After sitting with the steak in front of us for 10 minutes waiting for the fish so we could eat without any explanation from the waiter, we flagged him down and asked him to take the steak to be placed under a warmer until the fish was ready so we could eat together. 20 min later, our food came out. Luke warm. While the flavor was god, having lukewarm food was not. I have never written a poor review as we eat out at great places often. The other smaller issue was that we ordered tuna and salmon sashimi appetizers. We were served a whitefish and salmon. It tasted great, but was not what we ordered.
This restaurant experience was highly disappointing. With all the other great restaurants around, we are very unlikely to return. At the very least, we had a great table that got some laughs out of the poor service.
Food took 45 minutes...
The service was excellent!
Food was not good and overpriced. Had no flavor and pasta was way over cooked. Steak was dry. Great server though.
Our server, Rick, was very courteous and efficient. I had sushi with the inferno sauce and he brought us ice cream to mitigate its effects!
We made a reservation based on a recommendation. We were expecting a pleasant evening and invited some friends to join us. When we entered the bar area, we noticed a wet rag on the floor next to the bar sitting in a pool of water and a couple of wet rags sitting on the bar. The bartender explained they had a leak in the bar.
Our friends arrived and we walked to the back of the restaurant to our table. We were horrified at how filthy the floor was. The tables were jammed into the restaurant and there wasn't room for anyone to pull their chair out - our table was set up with four people on one side, one on the end and the other two across from the four. Very odd configuration. We rearranged it.
We ordered drinks and our dinner from a very unfriendly and disinterested waitress. The results weren't surprising. Most of the salads arrived after about an hour and 15 minutes. One salad never did emerge until the the mains were served. No one had even begun on the salads because we waited for cracked black pepper that never arrived. When the dinners finally made their way to the table, they came two at a time until there was one left . . . which didn't arrive. And, we had the wrong meals in front of us. The plates contained steaks only and they all looked alike; we couldn't tell the difference between a filet mignon and a sirloin - even when cooked to different temperatures, and they were all cold. The sides arrived shortly thereafter, however we didn't have any serving spoons. Eventually, the final steak arrived - and it was hot. But he wasn't sure it was what he ordered. Once the meal was on the table, we never saw the wait staff again. We would like to have ordered another glass of wine, but couldn't.
Finally, the manager came around and we expressed our dissatisfaction. He said they were swamped with walk ins and the staff couldn't handle it. He said he would credit us for a couple of items. I didn't see the bill so I don't know.
I had dinner reservations there for my birthday on 4/6 Saturday at 8pm. I order the tomahawk steak, mash potatoes, and Brussels sprouts. I split my meal with another person but for my portion I only ate a little as it was my birthday and I was busy conversing with my friends but i thought that’s ok I will eat it when I get home. I had my plate of food with left over sides and my tomahawk steak that was cut in two pieces. I got it boxed up by the server and was given my bag. I went home later and took out my left overs and only found one piece of my steak. Luckily it was the bigger portion of the two pieces I cut myself but I was still missing a portion and my side of Brussels sprouts and mash potatoes.
I was kinda of disappointed due to my individual bill being over $100 and expecting a meal for myself. I just want to say the service was amazing but was disappointed that I couldn’t enjoy my full Leftovers as I did pay for it and wasn’t your average dinner in my case.
3 steaks were woefully under cooked. Even after sending back. Service was slow and inattentive.
We have a party of 9. The restaurant has our reservation, but doesn’t have a table set up for us. We eventually get seated, but now we don’t have a server. Takes around 15/20 minutes before the restaurant realizes it and sends someone who I think worked in the back of the restaurant to be our server. Our server never came around. Our group would have bought multiple rounds of drinks, but barely got to order 1. No refills for waters etc. Takes about an hour and half from the time we ordered our food for it to come to the table. The restaurant wasn’t that busy at the time we were there and honestly if we could have ordered drinks the wait for the food wouldn’t have been a big deal. Problem came because we waited so long for our appetizers and half of them never come out. When our actual entrees come out our food was luke warm like it had been sitting in the back. When the food came to the table the ticket was wrong so the restaurant didn’t know whose food belonged to who. We get the bill and we are charged for $200 dollars worth of food that never came to our table. Total disaster. Every time we had an issue our server was nowhere to be found. The restaurant was very unapologetic. At one point the manager comes by to do they typical “thanks for coming in; how’s the food?” speech. We tell him that our food hasn’t come out and the service was poor and he just walks off. He doesn’t come back by to follow up with our table. From top to bottom we had issues here. Disappointed because we heard good things about Seven, but I would highly recommend somewhere else for dinner it’s more of lounge/club.
Dinner was delicious. Would definitely go back.
We had a great time , Our Server was great but our steak just took longer than expected 30-40 mins ? And it wasn't packed so it was odd it took that long ?
The steak is good but everything is just ok and overpriced. Also it's $12 for the parking -- they used to validate. Just not worth it for me!
Food was expensive but only average. When I pay big money, I expect big taste. Wasn’t the case...
Sushi was fair. Have had much better at other places. Steam buns were very good.
Despite the very best efforts of our server, not a great experience. My wife’s medium rare filet mignon, standard fair at any steak house, came out with a thick gray outer ring and raw in the middle. The second effort came out much the same. A third effort was taken home. Our server comped the meal as well as additional wine and our deserts. The other three meal were fine as were the appetizers. If you couple it with the neighborhood, I got hit up for cash by beggars entering and leaving, I’m not sure I would come back. Maybe it was just a bad night, not sure.
The food is absolutely fantastic! We had some excellent sashimi and sushi rolls. Pretty pricey compared to other sushi places, but excellent for a special occasion or a big night out. It was our first time dining at Seven and I'm sure we'll be back. The different levels of the restaurant offer unique dining experiences that set it apart from other establishments.
Classy restaurant! Food, service and ambiance were exceptional! Loved the 3 levels as well. Had a nice dinner in the steakhouse and then went upstairs for a cocktail and music!
We were seated near the fire, this was very nice. There are very few “by the glass” wine selections so we chose a bottle. We ordered the garlic shiitake mushroom appetizer. It came quickly and was hot but was essentially a pile of mushrooms on top of a piece of bread (we could not see the bread till we started trying to serve it). It was just sloppy and awkward. The taste was fantastic though. We each ordered the dry aged sirloin medium rare. His au poivre and mine with the garlic/anchovy butter. The peppercorn sauce was a bucket of peppercorns with a little bit of sauce served on the side. Again, very awkward and hard to eat. The garlic butter was a very cold lump in a sidecar. My steak was not warm enough to melt the butter. Never have been served the $3 steak accompaniments in such a way. Neither one of us were really able to enjoy that. My steak was sent back because of an odd flavor and the second one was fine. For the trouble of the odd tasting steak (which the waitress said she tasted and agreed) we were given a complimentary dessert. We chose creme brûlée which we enjoyed. It has plenty of berries on top. We also ordered a side of Brussels sprouts and the hash browns. Brussels were good and it was a large portion and we took about half home. The hash browns were very crisp but didn’t have much for flavor.
Overall, we decided upon Seven because of recommendations online but after this visit I’m not sure I would go again when there are so many other wonderful restaurants to choose from.
Waited for server for 10min upon being seated. Food was average for how expensive it is. This is my 6th time dinning with Seven and all I can say is good thing they have a beautiful rooftop and location because that is all they have.
If you are going to drop $400/500 on dinner go to Manny's Steakhouse or Capital Grill, much better service as well as food. I will only take my client's to Seven for a rooftop cocktail and then move onto a proper dinning establishment.
Food for thought before you book!
It was fine. Service was so so, not good not bad just was. Food was great as always.
Drinks were great. Sushi was unique and delicious. NY strip was over done and blah. Brussel sprouts were delicious.
Service was very good and attentive.
Food was not great. Over cooked scallops, under seasoned pasta and excessively greasy brussel sprouts.
Too expensive for the quality.
Not a good experience
Menu is not very noteworthy and poorly spiced. My steak was served on a cold plate and cooled quickly. The server was at a loss to tell us what was GF on the menu. (A common request these days.). The sushi was decent but not as good as I would expect for a higher end restaurant. The manager stopped by to be sure we noticed the fight at the bus stop across the street. ( No apologies, no assurances that police had been called. He seemed to think it was entertainment that our wives would enjoy.). I'm sorry but this was the worst experience I've had downtown and doubt they will survive.
Service was excellent. The crabcakes are the best!
I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday and the evening could not have gone any better! The atmosphere, staff, and food were outstanding! I wish I could give more than 5 stars!
We went prior to a 8pm show at the Orpheum. Our reservation was at 6:15 so we thought we would have plenty of time. Our food took at least 45-50 minutes to get to us so we were forced to eat in a rush to make sure we weren't late for the show. Other than being rushed, it was great. Best Pork Chop I've ever had.
We had a very poor dining experience. Our waiter lost our order so we sat for 45 minutes waiting for our food. He didn't offer us any more biscuits or anything at the time. Then when our orders came all the meat orders were wrong - hamburger rare steak W when ordered M. They did comp our wine and the hamburger but overall it wasn't a very pleasant experience. Plus I think the waiter should have been more attentive to us - ask us how we were doing, etc.
Arrived and was told we would need to wait 30-45 minutes even though we had a reservation. Hostess tried to move us upstairs to the Sushi Bar. Finally got a table with a limited non sushi menu and left after 20 minutes with no service. Bad experience.
We have been here several times and love the food. We made a reservation 2 weeks ago and when we arrived, they said it would be a 50min wait. The staff was not helpful or understanding at all when I tried to explain that we can't wait that long. The manager said it was not his fault that tables weren't turning. Is that our fault? We were there to celebrate my 11 year old so that wait would have been impossible. We finally got some accommodation and got seated but the service was terrible. Food took forever and when they gave us the wrong thing, they said there's nothing they can do. We never even got steak knives to eat our steak with..we had to use our butter knife. A different server showed up when we were done to "apologize" and that she is taking over (of what, I don't know since we were done). WORSE EXPERIENCE IN A RESTAURANT EVER. Staff and manager need some customer service training
Wanted to catch a bite before the Elton John concert. The food was ok...the services was horrible.
We chose seven for its proximity to Target Center, as, apparently, did many others. However, they are simply unable to keep up with a full restaurant. It took them over an hour to get us our food. The waiter did warn us that it would take a long time, and offer us a “fast” menu with very limited choices, but there was nothing on that menu we wanted and he was not sufficiently directive. In any event, you should know that if you are going to a show and you have less than 2 hours, that is all you can order! . Since pre-show dinners are presumably their mainstay, this is a real problem.
We had reservations for 6, they said they needed 20 minutes to clear a table and they would call when one was ready. We went to the bar and had some drinks and waited. They never called. After an hour we ordered some food at 7:00. At 7:45 we were told that our food would be ready in 15 minutes. We had to leave for a concert at 8:00 and cancelled. No apology and they never offered to comp drinks. Never going back.
Beautiful place but very disappointed in food. We waited over an hour and half for our food and it came out cold!
Server was very nice and apologized for our wait, we were so hungry we didn’t have time to complain and send our back. Steak was over cooked and cold.
Maybe would try again in hopes of better experience.
Service was rushed as the waitress thought we were going to see Elton john which we were not. Then service was very slow we ended up waiting for our food. I’m guessing it sat on line for a period of time as it was cold when it came out. We did not have time to send back
Our service was awesome due to the fact we were on our way to a show after dinner and our server was on top of it letting us know ordering sooner rather than waiting would get us there on time. We were there on time and never felt rushed. Yummy Halibut and nice healthy option.
Unfortunately, we did not get to fully experience Seven as we hoped. Upon arrival at our table our server politely suggested we order asap. We did, yet after an hour and fifteen minutes, our food still had not arrived and we had a concert to go to. Overall experience was great nonetheless. Just really wish we had a chance to enjoy the full meal. There's always next time!
There were five in our party. Feedback on the sushi and filet were very good. The halibut was very dry, and there was very little meat on the lamb plate. We waited 50 minutes for our dinner.
Food was very good. The service was a little slow from the time after we got are food
We had the reservation and still needed to wait to get seated, this was fine. Here’s the issue, we sat for 20 minutes before anyone came over. I went to the bar and waited 20 minutes to get a drink to no avail. Then the manager Tony Trump went to my table and asked have we’ve been waited on. My wife stated no, he said a server would be right over. 15 minutes later a young woman came and took our drink order, 2 glasses of house red, that took 20 minutes, more! When we finally got our first drinks, my wife made a second order cause it took so long for the first. We also placed our order, which NEVER came. We ultimately left. We made the reservations cause we wanted to have a nice meal and make it to the Elton John concert. We missed the 1st song Benny and the Jets because of the senseless delays.
