We have enjoyed Sassella multiple times. Earlier this week the staff and, in particular, the Manager, Evan, along with his delicious recommendations of evening specials, cocktails and wine elevated our experience to a new dimension. Without being intrusive, the staff anticipated and responded quickly to our every request. Our dinner was beautifully proportioned and presented and, most important, creative and delicious. In this crazy year of uncertainly, I am certain that we will return soon.
We had a wonderful experience. Food was great. Open coutyard ambience was very good
Our 40th anniversary trip continued and brought us to Sassella for a scrumptious lovely dinner
I had the bison bolognese which was fantastic.
My husband had the elk and boar stuffed ravioli
Also great wine
Amazing presentation and quality of food. Service was impeccable. Would highly recommend this place. Outdoor seating was greater than 6 ft apart; temperature was taken upon arrival.
Great experience. I’ve been there before one of my first choices for Santa Fe. Took some clients there for the gin tasting and stayed for dinner and everything was excellent. Could not have asked for a better and more attentive waiter than Daric.
Two of us sat outside, very well spaced and feeling very covid safe. The presentation and service were excellent and the food met my expectations. I did think though that it was over-valued. Two women, each with prosecco and another glass of wine-by-the-glass each and no dessert was $300 with tip.
Very disappointed in food quality. Wait staff started off with a positive greeting but then didn’t even check on us as service continued. Can’t say I would recommend to a friend.
Upon arriving we were told there were no restrooms. A water issue of some sort. The waitress was delightful and explained the menu well. There are just a few selections on the menu. I had a pasta with shrimp that was good. My husband had the veal chop that was very expensive and was so fatty. All in all we will not return.
In this covid era the service and safety were immaculate. Food as before was superb. If you believe you get what you pay for - you'll pay for it but should be highly satisfied. A wine list from the very serviceable to super high end.
Our go to restaurant when we want to spoil ourselves
This is a highly recommended restaurant in Santa Fe that has a sophistication that is decidedly Italian and not Southwestern. Nevertheless, the staff is courteous and warm and the environment conducive to long conversations over lengthy dinners. Food was very good but not exceptional on the night we dined, but in Covid exceptional may be an achievement few restaurants will achieve given the vagaries of differing city and state requirements. The only negative we noted on the night we dined indoors was the frequently relooping and very annoying selection of operatic selections including the dreaded "Volare". Silence is golden compared to the aural treacle we were forced to endure, which is also the reason we departed without sampling dessert.
This dinner was our second dinner at Sassella. We had gone there earlier in the year before the pandemic came to New Mexico.
The impressions that rose to the top (of an outstanding experience) was the superb fusion and the balance of flavors. Our main course - the tiger shrimp - were wonderfully spicy but not 'in-your-face-spicy.' Our chocolate torte was again excellent with a wonderful blending of the various chocolates.
We began with Sassella's Caesar Salad which is just ... excellent.
Our servers were a well-coordinated team preparing the table, bringing the water and the wine, bringing the various courses, and clearing the table throughout our meal when we had finished.
BTW The Caposoldo Prosecco is a very refreshing bubbly and fairly inexpensive.
Beautiful contemporary outdoor ambience except for one very important factor, the lighting in the evening! Very difficult to see the food on your table more less your plate, we used our cell phones.
Our drink order was taken within 15 mins, but were seated for exactly one hour before waiter took our order for an Antipasti and much later for our dinner order.
Food presentation was good, not great, the flavors average, the portions small, all didn't justify the price.
A recommendation to a friend with these caveats. I believe individual experiences are personal and wish Sassella the very best.
We apologize for the experience you had on the 14th. We always try to give our guests the best possible dining experience. Our steps of service have changed during the current health crisis which has impacted every aspect of dining at Sassella. Our highest priority is the safety of our staff and guests alike. Our strict sanitization practices can cause unforeseen delays in service and for that we sincerely apologize. We have made a note to provide more lighting in the future. Thank you.
This place is to die for. The food was absolutely delicious and our waitress was so sweet and helpful. The location is beautiful and was just a really great night
WOW! Went here for my 50th Birthday and Sassella did not disappoint. We have never been here before and were impressed by the food, Ambiance, Wait Staff and cleanliness of the Restaurant. The Cocktails, the Veal Dish, the Olive Oil and Bread were great.
Thank you for making my 50th even better!
Perfect but check menu to make sure you will enjoy the dinner. We have been there multiple times and I can tell you that if your service is not 5 star, look to yourself for the problem.
If your looking for amazing dishes with an impeccable presentation, this is the perfect Italian restaurant in Northern New Mexico for that special occasion.
This was our first visit. Has upscale environment and service was excellent. Our server, Sarah, was both friendly and attentive. Food was superb. Would recommend the Italian Mushroom Soup, the Ravioli, the Branzino and the Duck Confit. The Cannoli was extraordinary. Chef came out to greet us which was nice. Prices are steep, but would certainly recommend for a special evening out.
Here's my take on the good, bad, and ugly on Sassella. To be fair we dined here during the pandemic and realize expectations should be adjusted as such. Also the restaurant seemed to be at or near what would have been a mandated reduced capacity. The good: The patio dining was magical - lighting was perfect and tables were well-spaced. The entrees were incredible and exquisitely prepared. We had the duck confit which featured some of the most delicious duck I've ever had (and I love me some duck!) and an appetizer special of wild boar/duck ravioli that was converted to entree portion. Also sublime in presentation and taste. Both portions were fairly substantial. Unfortunately the awesomeness ended there. Service was mediocre and sporadic at best. When asked if we wanted cracked pepper on our appetizer we said "Yes" but it never came. Minor detail. Our table was set after we were seated, and utensils only provided after our appetizer was served. Again, fairly minor but indicative of a trend. After a tasty G&T I ordered a glass of wine which was clearly corked. Serving a corked bottle is one thing but a BTG selection should always be vetted for quality upon opening and the service staff should know these wines intimately in a restaurant of this caliber. Speaking of wine, my spouse (whose wine glass was clearly empty) was never offered a subsequent glass. Fail. The service just seemed disjointed - quantity of staff seemed more than sufficient, but nothing clicked. The denouement was when another diner literally stood up and rudely yelled at a service staff to "Stop refilling my water and bring me my food!" While personally I would have kicked him in the groin he was served shortly thereafter and not by his waiter. At any rate IMHO there's just too much competition in this town for substandard service. I would wholly recommend Sassella for take-out and encourage folks to support this industry as a whole. We need it in our lives!
We were on vacation in Santa Fe and went here twice. The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly, attentive and professional. Evan was a wonderful host and made sure my wife and I had everything we needed
Beautiful courtyard, amazing food and service. Impressive wine and gin lists with knowledgeable staff. Really enjoyed our evening here!
It was not just food but rather an experience. My husband and I are use to eating very, very well. We both love cooking and trying new things. We are not easy to please but the food and service were amazing. The Nadino was one of the best meats I ever had. Christian, the chef, was kind enough to share his secrets so we can try to make it home.
The food at Sassella is amazing and I highly recommend it however the wine list is so expensive that a dinner for two can run almost $300 with tip and a bottle of wine. We each had an appetizer and shared a pasta and entree, no dessert. One cocktail each and a bottle of one of their less expensive bottles of wine. With tip, the bill was $280. Even for a special occasion, this is too pricey. The wine list needs to offer a broader selection at lower prices.
The server was pleasant and he tried. We ordered two appetizers for a table of four; one was never delivered and, worst of all, the one appetizer that did come was served after the primi. I would rate the flavors of the dishes as good but not outstanding.
I would have tolerated the price point if the service and food were better but, for what we got, it was expensive.
Delicious! We love this place and will continue to come back. You feel like you are in Tuscany.
Chef Christian is one of Santa Fe's best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!His Italian specialties are some of the best, not only in Santa Fe. But some of the best I've had in my travels. His sauces are amazing. His eggplant dish is fabulous. Bar manager Derrick is a fantastic guy, wonderful personality and can pour it all.
Sassella is the best Northern Italian restaurant in which I have had the pleasure to dine. Our dinner last night was outstanding. The service was fantastic as was the wine menu. My husband and I have been there quite a few times in the past year and we look forward to visiting there again.
I lived for a while in Milano and learned to love their cuisine. Sassella is an excellent example of the food of Northern Italy.
wonderful food, outstanding service. one of Santa Fe's best
My wife and I love Sassella. We are treated like family by everyone. The spaghetti Bolognese with bison is so rich with flavor. I ate my leftovers for breakfast. Try the breaded veal chop and you will be hooked. Chef Cristian is a lovely man and always has time to say hello and get to know his guests.
Outdoor dining at it’s finest. Great food and service! The Gin flights were fun and very good, but expensive. They have a great Italian wine selection, and also a few from the US. We will go back soon and often.
Probably the most authentic Italian I’ve had since spending time in Italy. The outdoor seating was very nice. Wine menu was awesome. The server was very knowledgeable of the menu and led us to picking two delicious appetizers, the carpaccio and the boar ravioli. We then split a fun take in a Caesar and shared the bone in veal chop. Warning! Highly suggest splitting! All were outstanding. We finished the meal w pistachio ice cream and a flight of amaros (highly recommend).
There are a lot of great places in Santa Fe... this one is off the beaten path and well worth the visit!
Santa Fe is a great town for restaurants and Sassella is one of the very best if not the best. The Italian dishes are equal to any my wife and I have had in Tuscany , New York City or San Francisco Wine list , ambiance, presentation, service and food is fantastic.
Great cocktails, food and service!
Was fabulous , very impressed with the food which looked like works of art!!
The food was creative and delicious with a wonderful presentation. The service was attentive and thorough without being obtrusive. The outdoor dining ambience was pleasant. Overall, a terrific dining experience.
Delightful evening! Sassella’s spacious patio provides some of the most pleasant socially distanced dining in town & the food was delicious. Highly recommend the inventively presented Caesar salad, as well as branzino entree, shrimp pasta & the sublime mango & coconut sorbets.
Excellent food and service. Prices for food and wine rather high. Nice outdoor patio. Duck and pasta dish with shrimp. Cannoli for dessert.
Thank you everyone at Sassella for an outstanding dinner. We had a great experience from the moment we entered the beautiful patio right up until our dessert , which was the best Cannoli I have ever had. We ordered the Affettati Misti, Burrata Affumicata , Nodino di Vitello, and Flatiron Steak. Everything was outstanding. Our cocktails and wine suggestion were perfect pairings. Thank you for a great dinner out during these times when we are spending a lot of time and meals at home. See you soon.
Food was delicious. Especially delightful outdoor setting during Covid times with tables well spaced. We will return
Food was beautiful prepared and incorporated unique flavor combinations. I loved the balsamic pearls on our cantaloupe caprese salad If you’re a gin lover this is your place. It featured the most extensive list of gin and gin cocktails that I have ever seen.
