The food was just not good. Sushi was supermarket quality, not uneatable but not the quality of a sit down establishment with Chef Morimoto’s name in the door. Food quality was quick service/ fast food Asian but with finer dinning prices in a restaurant setting.
Excellent food and service
Food was okay at best. Totally overpriced for what you get. Great location and ambiance.
Morimoto's in Maui was fabulous. That's what drove us to try Sa'Moto and it did not disappoint. Especially the Hamachi Tacos. We've been back 4 or 5 times. I always promise myself just to order two servings of those, but I can't resist their other menu options. Our go-tos are Kushi-Ago chicken & salmon (for the kids,) Sticky Ribs that are to die for, Spicy Wontons, Popcorn Shrimp Tempura and the Spicy Tan Tan noodle soup! Have I mentioned the Hamachi Tacos? They're SO f@*king good! Their Pepsi must be fountain poured because it's syrupy, icy and delicious and everyone loves the Mochi.
The techno music is too loud for me, but I might have liked it in my 30s.
Makes sense considering the fact it's located in Doheny Room, I suppose, but the untz untz music, loud crowd, sweet cocktails, single (sweet) sake choice, and inclusion of a weird roll bathed in sweet sauces with my "sushi and maki" combo are all not my jam.
Service was friendly and generally on top of things.
Probably great for a young crowd pregaming for the clerbs just not my scene.
Food nothing special
Absolutely delicious. I would go back for their duck tacos any day. This was for my mom’s birthday celebration and it was all of our first time. I only wish they noted that it was for a birthday when I made reservations because I had to ask for a birthday treat after we had already finished our dessert. Other than that, it was a great experience and had awesome vibes.
The food wasn’t as good as the usual Morimoto experiences of the past. My favorite was the hamachi tacos and the Morimotos buri bap. We were disappointed in the deserts.
Sa’Moto is one of the best Morimoto restaurants. Not only the food is amazing as always, but the staff are extremely nice, attentive, efficient. We have the last couple of times had Fay as our server and she is amazing. We really enjoyed our dinner and her kindness and friendliness had a lot to do with it.
Thank you so much Fay.
Visiting LA from the East Coast and got recommended here by our hotel, what a pleasant experience. First, it was a nice 15 minute walk from the Four Season Hotel which was an ideal pre-dinner walk. Our waitress Mallory was excellent with on point food recommendations. We tried the sticky ribs, duck tacos, crab spring rolls, the Burt tap and some sushi. Every single thing we had was delicious. Thanks Mallory for excellent choices. We had a great experience and will certainly visit your location in location when opened.
Great food, but more important, fantastic service, and super convenient if you're seeing a show at the Troubador after
The food and everything was amazing
Great place for sushi and other innovative Japanese dishes. Morimoto never disappoints
Amazing food, service, and ambiance!!
We'd previously been to the Andaz Hotel/Maui where there's a Morimoto restaurant. We ate lunch or dinner at that restaurant for two weeks. So we made reservations when Sa'Moto opened right away and it did not disappoint. We're bringing our kids to try it week.
Though I and my husband were absolutely sober the first time, while heading for the door to leave, my husband stopped to say hello to someone. I turned to look at the large booth on the east side of the restaurant and tripped over a 5" or 6" riser with a single table.
It bruised my left knee, hurt my right toe & right hand, left a black skid mark on my nail polish and robbed me of my dignity.
Also, the music was entirely too loud and didn't match the delicateness of food, which is so good that I have no words.
I wanted to love the food. Unfortunately, there nothing great about it.
Manager was so attentive to us and provided amazing service.
Food was average at best. Service was hilarious- they brought the wrong items like 5 times, couldn’t give any suggestions, didn’t remember who ordered what etc. Portions were super small, the presentation was strange - and didn’t save the bland taste. So unfortunately this place has many aspects to work on
Amazing. The sticky ribs and the spicy wontons were awesome.
Researched this restaurant before booking and was not really in 'awe' of the menu. I was really looking for and array of new things that I try. The menu is extremely underwhelming with your typical Japanese staples with a very minor twist.
We ordered the Torro with Caviar. That was the best dish of the evening. However, the presentation with the flashing bulb in the ice seemed so tacky for such refined ingredients. It wasn't even fun..it just seemed silly. The pork Katsu was crispy, tender and juicy but however the beef was just greasy. The stench of oil as you were bringing the food to your mouth made me want to gag. The shishito peppers were average, no better nor no worse than elsewhere. The cocktails were good. We also had the clay pot rice with fish which was tasty. The ability to cook the fish in the piping hot clay pot made it very personalized.
The restaurant is busy and is open until late at night, thus I can understand the very understated menu with limited innovation. I understand the concept of late night dining and the atmosphere is very 'lounge' like.
If you are a serious purveyor of Japanese food then this is definitely not the place for you. There is really nothing that special to write home about. It's definitely about fusion and at that time of the night ..it seems to work.
Solid Date night dinner.
They have a combo of snap bar seating or large booths. For a couple, the bar seating is perfect. Delicious food and great service. Alan kept the drinks coming. He was busy, but very attentive to his customers.
First time and Terrible experience. The restaurant was “dead”. We were the only large party otherwise they’d have no one in their restaurant. And the management gave us so much difficulty in everything overall. They had a lounge upstairs. When we asked to go upstairs, they wanted us to pay $2000 for a table in the lounge, meanwhile random people were walking into the restaurant (boys and girls) all night long and going upstairs without having to be asked to pay for anything. Completely discriminatory of SBE and Doheny Room. They tried to get money out of us just because we were 10 people, we were already having food and drinks in the restaurant as is. So they could have been courteous but instead they were entirely unprofessional and greedy and also disrespectful. We were there celebrating my sister’s birthday with friends. Now I see why Doheny room has no business. And they are desperate to cheat people with money. But I’m not an idiot and neither are my friends. Shame on them.
Service was definitely off. Menu definitely can’t be that small and then be out of items. Doesn’t make sense to have such a small menu and then not have food available because you were out of items . Our waitress was definitely off. She seem to be more concerned about whether or not we were going to order rather than helping select items based on availability since you guys were out of items three to be exact library many choices left when your menu is already so reduced.
The food was delicious 😋. We had tacos were tiny though but good. The chips and dips were delicious 🤤. Also ,I think they use Anchiove sauce don’t like that anchiove sauce in ceaser salad . But the Ceaser salad was good. The drinks were strong and good. Overall the food was good but little pricey but good. The tip was added at the end too. But it’s okay.
The customer service from managers and host staff must be reviewed. In the end aren't you supposed to satisfy customers and keep them coming back? Instead we received a raised eyebrow and an uncomfortable air from this behavior. We will not refer customers to this location ever not with that type of bad service and lack of training related to customer service. Ex. Trying to separate a party when Clearly the restaurant was empty. Yes theres is prefixed dinner for more than X. But these 2 individuals weren't even eating or ordering food. Noone asked that question. Second guessing a price for bringing in a bottle that was communicated prior to the reservations by your won staff member. Just the attitude of the manager and host has to go!
Really enjoyed our meal. Food was excellent. Service was excellent. Our drinks were excellent. The only thing was that we found out later that everyone going to the brunch had to be 21 years old. Not sure why bunch is 21 and over?
To much hype not enough quality service, or quality good. Save ya money & less u want to pay for the hype. Very underwhelming experience to say the least!
I waited for over an hour and they kept forgetting our food. Finally we just paid the bill and left. Waitress was very apologetic and nice
I booked here expecting a table upstairs. Not only was that not possible, I wasn't even allowed to enter the upstairs bar even though I was a guest of the restaurant.
Friends and I were visiting from SF and made 9pm res on a Saturday night. We walked into a super quite and completely empty restaurant. We were seated and my friend and I were confused how this place that we heard was a hot spot was so dead. We decided to not stay so I waited for the waitress to come and informed her we were not staying because an empty restaurant wasn't my idea of a fun Sat night.
Great service, tasty food.
Had a great time, good prices /food. Only good vibes.
The bartenders were great. But the waitress we had was not in her best of days because she was extremely rude to us and kept rushing us off the table. Luckily we maintained our ground and stayed there for as long as possible until we could no longer order anymore.
The music was amazing. The fries were great. I would for sure go back because of the music and the cocktail drinks were really good.
It was very nice & sexy atmosphere.
The waitress was nice but not very attentive. My friend ordered a salad which turned out to be very large (like a normal meal) and I ordered shrimp toast, which I expected to be a decent size, but it looked like 4 tiny orderves. Both of our meals were the same price, but I left extremely hungry lol. Don’t get me wrong, I love this place, and the club is amazing, but I guess I wish I would have been warned about the portion sizes.
Service was ok, drinks were mediocre, food was terrible!
First, the place was empty (it was only 8pm), and our waiter was pressuring us to order something fast. I get it, but she wasn't friendly AT ALL. We ordered fries to start and some drinks. Two of the drinks we wanted were "out". Than, she said to us if we don't order dinner, we needed to leave the table. Super rude. After we placed our order, she kept quiet. When our dessert came, the server said to us "I would bring you guys spoons, but we are OUT". Really? Which restaurant doesn't have a spoon? Also, our dessert was tasting like alcohol SO BAD! The chocolate wasn't melting, so the server kept on putting alcohol. Overall, I wouldn't come back there for dinner, just for drinks.
It was fine. Not sure I would go again just for dinner. Super cute for cocktails to start the night .... the mini burgers are amazing!!
They asked us to leave after being there 2 hours and making a reservation. They said they needed to turn the table. We were ordering drinks and food the whole time. It was completely unprofessional.
