Contemporary Italian
Welcome to Rusticucina, where locally sourced ingredients, seasonal dishes and a warm ambiance reign supreme. We are named to reflect the merging of two cultures; American and Sicilian, since our owners are straight out of a small town in Sicily. We invite neighborhood dwellers and visitors to experience our farm-to-neighborhood restaurant unlike any other. Aperitivo, a traditional Italian-style happy hour, leads the way—think sensational small bites, Aperol Spritzes, Negronis and Limoncello. We also offer a full bar and carefully curated craft cocktails, along with an impressive beer and wine list. Our food menu, boasts hearty, rustic cuisine, with pasta made in-house, from scratch, as well palate-pleasing entrees and a slate of pizzas and flat breads. Our tableside service offers a one-of-a-kind, dedicated experience, and their outdoor space is the perfect landing spot for dog lovers and sun worshipers. We even offer a pet menu for furry guests.

Usually come here for amazing dinners with amazing staff, but it was our first time for brunch. The meat lover's omelette was great & the bottomless mimosas were great. LOVE THE PATIO. The owner Nino is amazing and always so kind. Vegan menu is great too!

Thanksgiving dinner was very special with the ambiance and quality of food and service at RustiCucina. The heat lamps provided adequate warmth and the food presentation and taste was exquisite! Me and my two daughters enjoyed our time together at this chic restaurant. Thank you!

Regular menu is probably better than Thanksgiving menu. Nice outdoor area, service was pleasant enough.

We have dined at Rusticunina twice for dinner and twice for lunch. Each time we have eaten something wonderful. The owners/staff are all Sicilian. And although the menu seems pretty standard Italian/American fare, it is much more on the palette. Each dish has it's own unique Sicilian twist. Everyone there is gracious, helpful and charming. All dining is outside, well spaced, covered and heated if needed. Rusticucina is our new go-to place to dine.

horrible service....they had no other party on the patio and told us to sit anywhere. we sat beside each other and were told we could not do this! I asked why and was given a lame response that made no sense as tge place was empty. We left and had a great meal at Camp Cuchina (Cuchina Urbana's new out door spot. Highly suggest it for an excellent meal and service! BTW, this was our 4th trip to our neighborhood dinner spot.

Another lovely experience at RustiCucina. This was our second dinner. We’ve also had brunch there. Because the owner/staff are all Sicilian it feels like we are back in Italy. They are gracious and attentive. The food is more Italian than just Sicilian. But they have some very unique dishes that I’ve not had in other Italian restaurants. This is our new go to restaurant to take special friends.

RustiCucina is my go-to, favorite Italian restaurant, and this was a special truffle-inspired dinner that was out of this world. I come here a lot because it's close to my condo, but this truffle menu with wine pairings was something very special. A BIG thank you to the guys who own and run RustiCucina! It's the best!

We were not impressed with the food here at all. Our appetizer, the crispy burrata came out cold. Flavor-wise it could have been good, but from a texture and temperature standpoint, it was a partially-defrosted mozzarella stick. Our entrees, a bucatini with pesto and a bucatini cacio e pepe, were both off. The pesto was watery and didn't seem to have any cheese in it, which is an ingredient in pesto. Not sure how they made it but it was mostly water. The cacio e pepe was almost entirely butter and barely any pepper, again not sure how they did it but I don't think it was right. Maybe we just went on a bad night but we were next to a table of people speaking Italian (which we thought was a good sign) and they seemed to like their food, but ours just missed the mark unfortunately. Not sure we'd go back.

Great service, unimpressive food.
First, the positive: great service. Our server was tentative and knowledgeable, did a great job selling the menu and specials, including wines.

Now, the food:

Crab stuffed mushrooms lacked flavor and more importantly, crab.

Lobster lasagna lacked....lobster.

Gnocchi was mushy.

Chocolate “lava” cake was solid, dry cake all the way through...no lava.

Deconstructed cannoli was just a cannoli shell broken up on a plate with dabs of filling.

Can’t tell if this was poor execution or just low standards for the food they’re choosing to deliver.

Prices far too high.

Overall there are many superior choices throughout San Diego.

I came here with two friends for dinner to celebrate one of their birthdays and it was amazing! The outdoor patio is decorated so cute and they had an old black and white movie projected on the side of the building. All of the waiters were great and super friendly and funny. Definitely try the crispy burrata appetizer and the papardelle short rib pasta. Also the drinks were strong which we liked lol

Restaurant needs to follow COVID-19 guidance more carefully than what I saw last night. Hostess asked a couple dining if they minded squeezing in an additional couple where there originally wasn’t seating (they had to add chairs and it was closer than the 6ft. Guidance). Waiters wore their masks incorrectly with their noses exposed. They just seemed lax with the rules. The food was fine, service was slow, and pricing is a bit high.

Got seated right away at a patio table. Could hardly converse with my husband because the speaker was blaring 1940s style vocal music. The Chianti was great, and we started with the mushrooms which were delicious. My pasta was slightly undercooked, it was an effort to chew, but the flavors of the pesto were good. The lava cake dessert was amazing.

Absalutley amazing, John Carlo was absultley the best server I have ever had. The ambience, service, and went ABOVE AND BEYOND for my birthday. It is true italian food with sicilian and italian cooks and servers. It reminded me I was back in Italy. I highl recommend the Chefs choice, the cheese pasta mixed in the 6 month cheese served at your table.

3 of us went for dinner. We started with the stuffed mushrooms and fried burrata. Then we had the scallop special that was mixed in a wheel of cheese, papardelle, osso bucco. Everything was phenomenal (except I would pass on the mushrooms). We ended the meal with the lava cake. The staff was friendly but not intrusive. Wonderful evening! Highly recommended!

Much more quiet and less busy during the early afternoon, we were seated immediately, served our food quickly and service was great. It was my first time trying a flatbread and that prosciutto/fig was amazing! Their flatbread crust is so light and delicious. I will definitely be back to try the other flatbreads or maybe just order multiple as an appetizer next time we go for dinner.
