Of Baton Rouge’s newest and unique culinary experience, Hightower states, “Rouj Creole will take its culinary cues from Creole cuisine as well as from around the globe. It will be a restaurant where our guests can not only enjoy authentically rooted Creole cuisine but learn the history and food lineage behind the Creole cuisine that lives in South Louisiana and New Orleans today. Hightower adds Rouj Creole will accent its Creole cuisine by also bringing international tastes to patron’s tables. The restaurant will feature tastes of Italy, Spain, Germany, France, the Caribbean, and New Orleans, where I hope to evolve dishes that can be presented as a respectful take on nouveau Creole cuisine that can become Baton Rouge’s own.”
Great concept and menu! The food and service was fantastic! It was a packed house but the food came out really fast and everything was cooked perfectly!
Went for lunch on a Saturday. The items on the menu were put into new categories I had never heard of before. Unique! As for the food- the shrimp and grits appetizer was AMAZING. In my 34 years of life I’ve never liked grits until this day. The plates came out warm which was quite nice. I had a fish entree that was loaded with many flavor combinations and looked like art. I loved it.
Btw get the Spiced cake!
We took our friend for her birthday. The food was great and the playlist even better. Our waiter helped to make it a perfect occasion
Excellent service The food was timely and delicious ! Very hard to talk because of the noise level ! Not much ambiance because of the noise level ! The music was distracting ! Beautiful decor and food fabulous!😍
6 of us met at Rouj Creole for our first ever visit. We were not dissapointed… the atmosphere grew lively but not too loud and the service was excellent. We enjoyed our cocktails and shared appetizers and enjoyed our entrees and shared desserts... then after dinner drinks... nice flow... and really nice experience. We will return.
Outstanding food, great service and a fun atmosphere. Everything we’ve ever had there has been terrific!
Food was delicious! Drinks are original and well made. Service excellent. Great experience overall.
Excellent food. Service was very good, which is a welcomed opportunity for a new BTR restaurant. A true lunch menu may help them for daytime diners, but our dinner meal was excellent.
We really enjoyed it. Food and service was great!!! We will go back.
Service was slow at best. Our server brought water and then it was st least 20 minutes before we saw her again to take our order.
I had a salad with grilled chicken and the chicken was cold and dry like it it was cooked the day before and refrigerated. The other person dining with hardly ate his meal so I figured he did not like his dish.
The atmosphere is great and I’m hoping management gets these things worked out. I’ll wait a few weeks and go back.
Service was great. The Bienville was a little bland and the oysters chewy. My brisket sandwich was delicious but on the verge of being too salty for my taste. The wife had a shrimp salad that came out on spinach which was a little odd because it didn’t say that on the menu. She would have ordered something else had she known. Brownie Napoleon was also very good. I’m sure we’ll try it again.
My only complaint is with the way the tables are situated. I was in a chair that did not have enough room for anyone to squeeze between myself and the chair behind me. Other than that everything was very impressive. Especially how comfortable the chairs are and how quiet the restaurant is!
Great job once again Stephen Hightower and City Pork. Great place! I keep ordering the shrimp tacos!
The food was BLAND and the portions TOO small was the price. I had a redfish that was probably smaller than my hand. The meal did NOT fill me up😡
The crab cakes were delicious but had a lot of shells which was disappointing. The salad also good but way too much dressing. It just seems like they’re still trying to find their footing. I would eat there again but I’d wait a month or so while they work out the kinks
Lively atmosphere. If you want a quiet place, this is not for you. Excellent service by all
I encountered. Food was great and a really good drink selection.
Great service... a little pricey..., food was good.
Honestly the food was good as well as the ambiance and service. I wasn’t as impressed as I was hoping because the food did seem a little plain. If someone invited me back, I would gladly accept because there were no complaints per-say. I think that, because it has just opened, some of the recipes need a little trial and error to perfect, but it will only get better the longer it’s open. I look forward to seeing how the restaurant grows and improves in the future.
The food was well prepared and tasted great. Unfortunately, I do not feel like a large portion of paella justifies $28. If I order an entrée at a restaurant like Roberto‘s, I would also get salad and veggies and bread service. I would recommend that you adjust your prices or you may not survive this market
My husband and I celebrated finding out I was cancer free. The food, service, and ambiance were exceptional. We will return with others next time!
Great food and service! We will definitely be back
Great atmosphere and service. The quality of the food was amazing. The menu is great and will have me coming back to try everything. Try it!
Our service was very friendly but a bit slow, particularly for wine and cocktails. They have an interesting and fun menu. We had raw oysters, Moules Frites, petite greens salad, seafood carbonara and the triple tail special which were all very good. The ambiance is upscale casual, modern, minimalist, nice, just not our preferred style. We would go back to try other interesting dishes.
If I could give this restaurant greater than 5 stars I would! The atmosphere was great and our server, Philip, was outstanding! Everything we ordered was very delicious! This is definitely a great addition to the Baton Rouge area!
Our waitress was amazing and made great recommendations. Love the round tables with the high banquette seating. It made our experience seem super private and intimate. I think this might be my new "go-to place".
Fantastic food, great atmosphere!
The grilled oysters were very good. One of the guest in my party had the Redfish, one had the grilled shrimp, one had a hamburger, and I had the Amberjack with lump crab meat. Everyone's dinner was delicious. The service was very good and the manger and maitre d came by to make sure everything was OK. Because of the design of the restaurant (e.g., the materials use), the noise level was high. Reservations are a must because by the time we left, the restaurant was full.
Extraordinary menu & everything over the top delicious
Food was good, chairs were comfortable, service good and I am looking forward to coming back to try some different things on the menu.
Visited twice and both visits food was really good. Had some issues with ordering on both visits but eventually got corrected. Overall good restaurant, hopefully will get through its new restaurant pains.
Went with a couple of friends for dinner. I really liked the concept. The dining room was open and airy. The food was creative and very good. Overall a very good experience.
Great start for a new restaurant! Menu was very diverse. Loved the generous sharables option! Food was innovative and delicious. We will be back!
Excellent food with an interesting variety to choose from. Service was excellent. Would recommend and will definitely go back.
This is my 2nd visit, and just as my initial visit, the staff, and the food , did not disappoint. Have recommended Rouj Creole to everyone I can, when discussing dining in Baton Rouge. Can’t wait to experience more from this menu.
Food presentation was good. Needs a tad bit more seasoning. Good selection of items. Need maybe some type of complementary bread/butter.
Food and drinks were great. Loved it!
We enjoyed our first experience there with the good food (a Friday night) , but the noise level is off the charts and pretty annoying! We had a larger group and we practically had to shout to others at the opposite end of the table. It would be nice if there were more noise abatement measures to help muffle the noise levels. We don't plan on coming back if it is still so noisy.
Ordered Fish, A grouper special and the redfish on the menu, probably the poorest fish entrees I have had in quite sometime, grouper half cooked, was awful, and the redfish, there was no fish to speak of, just gummy cornbread - crawfish dressing, supposedly, besides that, crab cakes were awesome, fried shrimp dish entrée really good, and the drinks were nice, BUT, REALLY NEED WORK ON FISH ENTREES, may not go back, but might
We planned a family dinner night there without children and were welcomed by all the staff. The restaurant itself is really designed beautifully and has a NOLA vibe to it. We had a variety of dishes so cannot to each dish our table had. I had the Red Fish Roulade, however, and it was excellent. We all shared three of the appetizers (Socials), Brie, Hummus and one other. All were excellent.
Our only issue was the service was slow. The appetizers were slow coming out and main courses were a bit as well so that we really didn't have much separation between appetizer and main courses. The menu seems like it may need some work as all the print seems to be the same and nothing stands out so you really have to take your time when viewing--maybe it's the paper or the ink?
Overall, we will go again, and I think they are just still getting all the kinks worked out. A big thank you to all of the staff though. We had a small medical-type emergency at our table which we needed assistance with and they were gracious and helpful.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Also loved the ambiance.
